To think AIBU is just a viper pit

I’ve read through loads of different threads today and there’s everything from the sarcastic to just downright cyber bullying on AIBU
its batshit!

OP posts:
Tiltedandwilted · 27/12/2022 17:00

Well it’s known for being bat shit so people post with this knowledge.

I never post for advice on AIBU for that very reason, plus the fact most posters don’t seem all that bright, reading abilities are in short supply

WatchoRulo · 27/12/2022 17:01

Not this again.

DashboardConfessional · 27/12/2022 17:05

There's a little "X" button at the top right of the browser tab if you'd rather be elsewhere.

RampantIvy · 27/12/2022 17:06

I agree with you. There have been some vile posts today. I know that AIBU is asking for trouble, but today has been particularly bad.

clearlyclelia · 27/12/2022 17:08

Sounds like posters will prove you right on your own thread Grin

stbrandonsboat · 27/12/2022 17:12

Nah, vipers are more friendly 😄

Pixiedust1234 · 27/12/2022 17:14

Schools are still closed for the holidays. People (of various ages, both sexes) are bored.

I think that's enough hints as to why threads are going more batshit.

Jackanorytellanother · 27/12/2022 17:14

It is a shock when you first come onto the board. I wasn't "in the know" about how horrible it can be and certainly didn't start any threads! I know it is a discussion board but people can start an argument in an empty room and some posters will take anything they can to argue about. Now I skim read and don't take on board the nastier posts and take the wisdom of the good ones. A win-win, I used to argue back sometimes but that doesn't work! Nobody ever goes "hey you are right I was being an arsehole there!" (and everyone has a right to post....least said about that the better!)

BigMama32 · 27/12/2022 17:14

@RampantIvy i hve seen some horrid things today. Some poor people trying to navigate Christmas as best they can’t and getting torn apart for it.

@clearlyclelia yeah I reckon you are right lol

Ooooh 5* for originality😁

BigMama32 · 27/12/2022 17:17

@Jackanorytellanother i have seen someone today actually say “you know what I’ve learnt from these responses and I’ll do X,Y,Z in future” and people still just ripped them apart. You can’t win on AIBU !

I am genuinely concerned for some people mental health, some of it is so personal and really does verge on cyber bullying

Sorry didn’t know this had been raised here before! Granted I didn’t look

MN isn't somewhere you go for sympathy or thoughtfulness. It has a stereotype for nastiness and unpleasantness for a reason.

Look at the attitude towards dogs as an example and that hysteria. You don't get 'out of control and aggressive' dogs in real life, not at the regularity that you see here.

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2022 17:19

I found it shocking at first but now I find the venom quite funny. I’ve been insulted so much on Mumsnet considering everyone is polite to me in real life. AIBU is like a cartoon place to me now where normal social rules don’t apply.

I wouldn't say whole MN. Some sections. Property, money and cost of living are nice and calm with lots of helpful posters

Very few times are such thoughts original😉

cherrycheesecakesouffle · 27/12/2022 17:24

The part I’ve always disagreed with is that you can have 20 people saying how horrible the OP etc and if they dare to say anything back then you’ll get the predictable posts of “you sound angry OP”

You’re literally expected to take a beating and keep quiet.

Aye it's only about once a day it gets raised so you couldn't have known, in fairness :)

Me too - I can't believe how seriously some people take it.

Againstmachine · 27/12/2022 17:28

If you post on AIBU expect to be told that, yet people can't accept that. And if you post here for traffic expect the same either post in right group or get told because you are posting in wrong place, you are complaining about Christmas there is a section for that.

If you want fluffy bunnies go somewhere else.

WallaceinAnderland · 27/12/2022 17:28

It's supposed to be. If you don't want to get bitten just use the other sections, there are loads of them.

Not only that but one poster on one of the numerous dog-hating threads last week was seriously advocating a total ban on keeping dogs as pets "because there is no need" - it's comedy gold at times.

chocolatemademefat · 27/12/2022 17:29

I don’t think it’s half as bad as it used to be! Some days it’s tame to the point of being dull.

AdobeWanKenobi · 27/12/2022 17:32

It's not that bad, but you do find the tone is often set by the first reply. It's like certain posters are waiting for a permission of sorts to pile on, and if the first reply isn't especially kind they run with it.

You tend to spot the same names from thread to thread, little rays of sunshine who clearly have something lacking in their lives. You just learn to read the username and scroll on by.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/12/2022 17:33

YABU.
It's a nest of vipers. Well known for it.
Like a pit but a bit more domestic, I suppose.
