Help! Have I ruined Christmas with hangover!

Work night out last night. First time in ages I wasn't designated driver and went a bit overboard with cocktails. Have been lying awake most of the night feeling sick, can't make myself be sick. Can't face the thought of wrapping presents let alone food prep 🤢and my v religious parents are arriving for Christmas at lunchtime today😫. Any advice to make it go away? Should I just get up and try to get on with it, try and sweat it out of me by going for a run, lie in bed and ride the waves of nausea ??? I feel such a fool.

Berocca and McDonald's delivery pronto if you have it

Sunflowersinthewind · 24/12/2022 08:08

A shower would help too

Hopeful16 · 24/12/2022 08:09

Cup of tea, some stodgy breakfast and back to bed for a couple of hours. Kill or cure.
Don't feel guilty and don't mope about it. If you make it to mid afternoon a 'hair of the dog' will get you through to bedtime - just make sure it's only one.
We've all been there and survived. Just prioritise jobs that are essential to today and maybe those you can squeeze into tomorrow morning - or get people to help with.

Quincythequince · 24/12/2022 08:09

Can coke, bacon sandwich, two paracetamol and two ibuprofen and lots water.

LOL. I’m sorry you’re feeling so bad, but last. night of all nights… really 😆

Youngatheart00 · 24/12/2022 08:10

Hot shower. Painkillers. Something salty to eat, coffee and water. Quick walk in the fresh air (I wouldn’t run).

today is one of those days you’ve just got to get on with it - good luck OP!

JuneOsborne · 24/12/2022 08:11

You gotta get yourself sorted.

Andrews, something sugary, something salty, definitely carbs. Drink plenty. Take paracetamol, get some sleep and a shower.

And forget about it as best you can!

Overreactionpossibly · 24/12/2022 08:11

Original lucozade and a shower, something to eat if you can manage it. Then back to bed.
You can wrap presents this evening and food can be prepped tomorrow.

Fuck it. It's Christmas.

Kinsters · 24/12/2022 08:12

Paracetamol and a glass of coke...

User3936493947 · 24/12/2022 08:12

Agree with all the above. Alternative breakfast suggestion: a fish finger and fried egg sandwich.

I actually think that getting up and cracking on with things will help it pass more quickly. Make sure you’ve got plenty of sugary drinks while you’re doing everything.

wibblewobbleball · 24/12/2022 08:13

Alka seltzer, paracetamol and a McDonald's. Lots of fluids. Get up now and shower.

AutumnCrow · 24/12/2022 08:13

Shower, teeth, tea, water and junk food. Gird your loins and get moving.

I once had to spend Christmas Day with relatives in this state. I said I had a cold and delicately sipped lemsip till I was ready for a hair of the dog. I don’t think I was terribly convincing.

Singlebutmarried · 24/12/2022 08:13

Fat coke or red bull and. Ginsters steak slice.

But as far as your parents are concerned these 24 hour bugs are awful and you’re a brave soldier for carrying on.

Yep, lot sickness this time of year.

But a GINsTERS steak slice??? OMG, that would finish me off 🤮

QueenofLouisiana · 24/12/2022 08:16

Water, tea or coffee and a carb-heavy breakfast. Walk to the shop for paracetamol and fruit juice. I had to motor through my cocktail induced fragility last weekend with my (teetotal) MIL. I felt better than I think I would if I’d spent the day in PJs feeling sorry for myself.

Winkenblinkenandnod · 24/12/2022 08:17

Thank you all for the practical suggestions. Have just had a shower and do feel a bit better. Can't face coffee or food yet but will try to eat something (some of the suggestions made me gag a little! But I'm sure you're right). Meant to be going to church this evening and doing a reading😫😫 Might have to develop a migraine. Definitely going to stick to being designated driver from now on.

You can get through this! Don’t think too far ahead and get fluids inside you as much as possible, good luck!!

londonrach · 24/12/2022 08:19

Coke and a cooked breakfast. Lots and lots of water. Hit shower and you feel better by lunch

Iknowhim · 24/12/2022 08:19

At least it was last night and not tonight. I've actually ruined Christmas by being too hungover on Christmas Day. 😄

Agree with others, you need to carb/grease load, get some berocca and some cold, full fat coke.

stopbeeping · 24/12/2022 08:20

Glass of champagne and carry on drinking

Holly60 · 24/12/2022 08:21

Can you go for a swim? That always seemed to clear my head somehow

Poinsettas · 24/12/2022 08:22

Carbs and hydrating liquid, apparently eggs are supposed to be good but sometimes I can only stomach toast. Hate the thought of eating but then do feel a bit better afterwards. Would also agree with a v controlled hair of the dog.

May the force 💪

EllaPaella · 24/12/2022 08:23

Loads of water, a carby breakfast then back to bed for a couple of hours. It's still really early in the morning, you'll feel a lot better after more sleep.

Hobbesmanc · 24/12/2022 08:26

Toast tea. I promise it will feel better after toast.

I agree with this. Especially just before church, it will get you through.

I'm feeling equally peakey, sipping baracoa and dissolvable paracetamol

NauseousNancy · 24/12/2022 08:28

We once threw a Christmas party on the 23rd. One friend had to be carried out, I was sick before they all left, another fell over in the front garden.

all mums, all exhausted, all took letting our hair down too far. However, we had a fabulous time!!

i woke up on Christmas Eve and was sick - my husband still teases me about it.

take some paracetamol, drink something sugary and go back to bed for a few hours. Sleep is always the answer!!

possibly making myself look like a raging alcoholic here (in really not) but the best cure for me when I’m hungover but need to be doing something is a very cold cider and a crisp sandwich.

don’t beat yourself up - it’s just a hangover! I had a 6 year old and an 18 month old on my vomiting Christmas Eve and everyone still had a great time.
