Help! Have I ruined Christmas with hangover!

Work night out last night. First time in ages I wasn't designated driver and went a bit overboard with cocktails. Have been lying awake most of the night feeling sick, can't make myself be sick. Can't face the thought of wrapping presents let alone food prep 🤢and my v religious parents are arriving for Christmas at lunchtime today😫. Any advice to make it go away? Should I just get up and try to get on with it, try and sweat it out of me by going for a run, lie in bed and ride the waves of nausea ??? I feel such a fool.

Thank you all for not judging! If I "come down with something" it will have to be non contagious as parents are quite covid anxious and might cancel. Tempting as that is just now, I really don't want them to as we haven't been able to have Christmas with them for 3 years due to covid. Have managed to get a bit of food down and some coffee ( before I read the warning against it) DH and DCs are rallying round with my list of jobs. I'll try and have a nap later and pull myself together!

Can of coke. Ice cream. Preferably soft like McDonald's but any will do.

BertaHoon · 24/12/2022 09:30

Vodka and coke. Sod the reading.

MrsWhites · 24/12/2022 09:31

Tell them you have a migraine, that would explain the tiredness and vomiting.

You need fluids, full fat coke and something salty - McDonald’s or KFC is the best IMO.

Never mind sweating it out 🤢, I definitely wouldn’t be trying any exercise, take to the sofa with a blanket, above supplies, 4 hourly paracetamol and lots of Christmas films. Food prep can be done later!

mrsjackrussell · 24/12/2022 09:32

Agree with above. Full fat coke does work.

mintbiscuit · 24/12/2022 09:33

The main thing OP… did you have fun??? 🤣

Winkenblinkenandnod · 24/12/2022 09:36

Yes, I had a great time thanks😁. Felt fine as well till the night of the night 🤢

Tango (the full sugar version ideally) or any full sugar fizzy orange drink works a treat along with a sausage sandwich (not posh sausages, fatty ones)

gogohmm · 24/12/2022 09:44

And paracetamol of course, repeated every 4 hours or alternate with ibroprofen every two hours

GyozaGuiting · 24/12/2022 09:56

@AutumnCrow that’s bloody brilliant! I’m using that in the future!
The nap will help Op! Sleep and hair of the dog work here, one cold crisp larger as soon as is socially acceptable (I usually wait till 3pm). Sorts me out!
All these food suggestions in here don’t work on me as I just can’t face eating. The person that said slowly nibble a banana I can relate to 😂

MatronicO6 · 24/12/2022 10:01

Dioralyte and paracetamol. Some Carby food if you can manage it

Little red ambulance (can of coke - this is the most important.)
Somethjng salty and greasy.
Pain killers.

Dioryalite/ rehydration sachets (just try and do this before bed next time, but better late than never.)

Shower & Shit

And remember you're not alone, there hungover people worrying they've ruined Christmas everywhere.

There are also a lot of nasty bugs going round. So hopefully your parents will show you some sympathy. Wink

Autumninnewyork · 24/12/2022 10:22

Power through the morning and go for a nap when your body tells you. You’ll sleep better tonight for not being overtired, truly. Like a baby! Be honest about your hangover. Tough if parents judge. Just ignore. Early night abd have a brilliant Christmas Day tomorrow 🥂😉

Autumninnewyork · 24/12/2022 10:23

Ps don’t tell parents you have a bug or they’ll worry they’ll catch it. Just say you’re hungover and it doesn’t happen often!

Brendabigbaps · 24/12/2022 10:25

Go for a walk (to McDonald’s, greasy spoon etc) the fresh air always clears my head, it’s quite amazing

DanielRicciardosSmile · 24/12/2022 10:33

I was in the same boat Thursday. Throwing up at 8.30am, took 2 paracetamol, a pint of lemon squash and a dry cream cracker and went back to sleep until 10am. Got up and had a shower and managed to drag myself out to the supermarket by 11am. Was absolutely back to normal by lunchtime.

You got this, you'll be fine.

LikeTearsInRain · 24/12/2022 10:41

Berocca suppository

GrannieD · 24/12/2022 10:56

Hair of the dog ! Just the one tho

Itsokay2020 · 24/12/2022 11:18

@PolarBlair another vote for ice-cream over here!! Who knew that a Solero could cure a hangover 😃

It’s all about the sugar when I am hungover… then carbs a couple of hours later!

No hangover for me, but this thread is making me seriously hungry 😂

the80sweregreat · 24/12/2022 11:24

Lots of water and some sugar / carbs
If your parents are getting judgy, remind them that Jesus turned the water into wine once ..
( or maybe not if they would be mega offended by this bible story )

Poinsettas · 24/12/2022 23:21

PrimroseYello · 24/12/2022 09:00

9- paracetamol and a pint of water
10- sausage McMuffin and a can of coke
11- Bloody Mary

You'll be absolutely fine by 12.

Read this as quantities not times at first and thought damn this girl doesn’t mess about 😂

Iknowhim · 25/12/2022 09:54

My turn today. Eeeeuuuurrrrrggggggghhhhhh

ethelredonagoodday · 25/12/2022 10:02

Late to this, but rehydration sachet, beef hoola hoops and lucozade.
