Help! Have I ruined Christmas with hangover!

Work night out last night. First time in ages I wasn't designated driver and went a bit overboard with cocktails. Have been lying awake most of the night feeling sick, can't make myself be sick. Can't face the thought of wrapping presents let alone food prep 🤢and my v religious parents are arriving for Christmas at lunchtime today😫. Any advice to make it go away? Should I just get up and try to get on with it, try and sweat it out of me by going for a run, lie in bed and ride the waves of nausea ??? I feel such a fool.

Unfortunately we're not walking distance from a shop so no berocca though might invest in some for future - no, what am I saying, I'll never need them in the future as this is Never happening again🤦. Plenty paracetamol here and water and I've put on a Christmas jumper to try and fake it till I make it.

It's just the beer fear. Have plenty of fluids, pain killers and something to eat. You will be ok

Suzi888 · 24/12/2022 08:33

You’ll be ok tomorrow. I would probably come clean with parents. You’ll be ok tomorrow and can make up for it- I would get up early and food prep/presents. Have an early night.

LeFeu · 24/12/2022 08:34

Take some painkillers, then try and sleep a bit longer. If you can get a maccies or Burger King delivery, eat it in bed with an extra large fat coke. This went a long way towards fixing the worst hangover of my life (first big night out post covid) although I’m not going to lie op, if you’ve got jobs today there is definitely going to be some toughing it out!
im guessing your parents don’t drink? Otherwise suggest a little pre church sherry to get you through!
we’ve all done it op, don’t worry. Worst case scenario get up at 5/6 tomorrow and finish your jobs then when you’re feeling better. Merry Christmas!

LeFeu · 24/12/2022 08:35

Oh! Do you have dioralyte? They’re quite good in a bit of squash!

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/12/2022 08:36

Sunflowersinthewind · 24/12/2022 08:07

Berocca and McDonald's delivery pronto if you have it

This
Or just cheese on toast

also very firmly tell the parents you have ‘come down with something’ to lower expectations for today. Get DP on the act with food. And make sure whatever you eat today is pre prepped (send DP out)

There is nothing like a seasonal adolescent moment, don’t beat yourself up.

FasterthanBolt · 24/12/2022 08:39

Carbs and as much fluid as you can. I am also very hungover, I'm trying to power through!

maddy68 · 24/12/2022 08:39

If you like in bed it delays the being sick.

Get up have a shower The moving around will make you sick. You will feel better after that

Alka seltzer if you have any

Montague22 · 24/12/2022 08:40

Eek
Does your mum like wrapping? Or can someone just buy a load of gift bags instead?
Can you simplify food today?

I would go with sleep, paracetamol and then more alcohol.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 24/12/2022 08:41

Ginger ale is good for migraine. I imagine it would have the same effect on a hangover.

Middersweekly · 24/12/2022 08:47

Oh we’ve all been there OP!
Nice cup of tea with 3 sugars or a can of full sugar coke. Nibble on a banana at a slow pace. Take a large ibuprofen or paracetamol then go back to bed for a few hours and sleep. The veg prep can be done tomorrow!

inappropriateraspberry · 24/12/2022 08:52

Ginger beer/ale. Fizz helps settle stomach and the ginger is good too. Nice hot shower or bath, and take it slow and steady.

Dashel · 24/12/2022 08:52

Try and crack on now with paracetamol and as much food and liquid as possible then try and have a nap later. I don’t know why but a midday nap after I have dealt with the hangover with drugs, food and liquid seems to get me back to normal

lukelovesu · 24/12/2022 08:52

Salt, sugar, potassium from something like a banana. A fizzy drink can help with nausea and if all that doesn’t help it needs be a hair of the dog. Maybe a cocktail. You’ll be ok soon. Don’t feel bad. We’ve all been there, hence the advice!

Woofins · 24/12/2022 08:54

Get out for a run, get a journal out write down a few positive things about yourself, put on a face mask open all the windows and don't drink too much coffee. You'll be grand!

123woop · 24/12/2022 08:59

Exercise - sweat it out. Go for a walk or a run. It will be HORRIFIC at the time but you'll feel miles better after

PrimroseYello · 24/12/2022 09:00

9- paracetamol and a pint of water
10- sausage McMuffin and a can of coke
11- Bloody Mary

You'll be absolutely fine by 12.

Bunce1 · 24/12/2022 09:01

Cold blast in the shower. As cold as you can take it.

miso soup, rice and some chicken. Miso is the gut bacteria protein booster you need. Rice is binding. And carby.

Theb a berrocca. Failing that put 3 spoonfuls of shaver in a glass with the juice of 2 limes. A little sparking water and some ice. Drink. Then water. Loads of water.

but the best hangover cure is the drinking prep….
before you go to bed
1 berrocca
1 sandwich

loads of water
sleeping tablet
3 magnesium vitamins.
sleep for 8 hours.

JorisBonson · 24/12/2022 09:05

Irn bru, meat flavoured crisps and ibuprofen. Good luck!

Duckerbizzle · 24/12/2022 09:09

Argh, there's nothing worse than a stinking hangover. Haven't had one for years now because I'm so frightened of them that I don't really drink anymore lol. But my go to was always a sausage roll and a can of cherry coke!

Stressedmum2017 · 24/12/2022 09:10

Why on earth would a company book their night out for Christmas eve eve, anyone with any actual responsibilities over Christmas would know its too close!
Paracetamol and lucozade and tell your parents you've got a virus 😅

CosyScentedCandles · 24/12/2022 09:10

Lack of/poor quality sleep is always the killer tbh. If you’re anything like me you will have woken up and are now unable to get back to sleep.

The answer is to get up and do some stuff (added bonus of feeling productive) and then come back for a Power Nap about 10:30. Up again at 11:30 for a quick shower/refresh when your parents arrive and mainlining Pepsi Max

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2022 09:11

Cream of tomato soup works wonders.

CaponeOnTax · 24/12/2022 09:14

Do not have caffeine.

It was a tip I got on here about 10years ago when I was in your place OP, and it has been a revelation. For the serious killer hangovers: No coffee, tea, coke.

Force squash and paracetamol down. Clean teeth and try to sleep.

And don’t worry about Christmas! A lot can happen in 24hrs.

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 24/12/2022 09:26

I would have been on the phone to your parents claiming the water was off, no flushing toilets, no water for cups of tea, expected back on by 4pm, delay arrival til then.
