I had booked to take my little boy to a Santa sleigh ride day today. He hasn't been since before lockdown and is so excited.

I've come down with flu. I've never felt so unwell in my life. I hurt all over, I'm freezing, I'm being sick.

My dads having to take him now as I'm just too unwell. I'm in bed crying because I'm missing it and I feel so unwell. It's 3 days before Christmas for gods sake.

Am I a pathetic excuse for a mother?

Hey he gets to go so that's fantastic!

I had a Christmas with flu, single parent with 2 young Dc. Dd1 was also poorly with it. We set up a big bed in the living room and stayed there for days. Dd2 was 2 and she was fine - she lived on milk, toast, satsumas and chocolate for a few days. I felt a bit better Xmas Eve and made it to the supermarket for a bit of shopping. We had a reduced roast chicken, gravy & brussel sprouts for Christmas Day as our family plans were cancelled.

It was awful at the time though now we look back on this Christmas very fondly & talk about it every year.

Feel better soon.

Oh OP, poor you! Flowers

Hope the acute stage passes fast and you're feeling much more comfortable soon. Life will feel a lot less overwhelming when you do.

Im sure he’ll have a brilliant time with grandad. He’ll have many special Christmas memories with you over the years but fewer doing something special and one on one with a grandparent. Don’t feel bad, focus on getting better to be ready for Christmas Day. That’s when your boy will need you.

RachelGreeneGreep · 22/12/2022 14:11

Aww, poor you, I hope that you feel a lot better soon.

It is disappointing but at least he still got to go and hopefully had a good time.

I've had that flu and I'm crying at everything too

Me too, it's been horrendous all week - temp almost 40c, exhaustion but also unable to sleep, really achy, vomiting.

I've been an emotional wreck on top of it Blush

Ask your dad to take lots of photos (if he has a camera or smart phone).

It’s sad that you’ll miss the experience, but you cannot help being poorly and it certainly doesn’t make you a bad mum💐

I hope you start to feel better soon. Drink lots of water, get lots of rest, wrap up warm and get some vitamin C down you.

It’s awful when you feel crap. Sometimes we all need a good cry. Ignore the nasty people on here.

Plan something Christmassy to do with your son when you’re better, cinema trip, Christmas markets (some keep open until mid January) New Years fireworks display, illuminations, Indoor snow boarding/skiing.

At least he can still go, it would be very sad if you had no one to take him, look on the positive side. X

Breathe a deep sigh of relief - he still gets to go, grandad is probably chuffed. You need to rest, there’s a terrible virus going around. Do you have a temperature? You may need antibiotics.

Rest, hope you feel better- little one will be fine, make sure you get sent photos!

Notimeforaname · 22/12/2022 23:19

You're a human. You got sick. You need to rest. Nobody is invincible. Its not the end of the world. Feel better soon!

Wayk · 22/12/2022 23:36

You are a fantastic mother. I was in bed for 3 days.it is more important that you get better. Get your dad to take loads of photos

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 22/12/2022 23:37

Of course not. I missed the whole of christmas one year because of flu. It happens to most people once. It happened to my mum once and I cant even remember and I doubt your son will either

Sorry to hear that so many peeps are feeling unwell just now. Wishing you all a speedy recovery. x
