What is the ultimate Christmas food?

The one thing at Christmas that you really look forward to eating?

Mine is a plate of mixed cheese, biscuits/crackers and pickled onions on Christmas Day night…it’s the best!

It’s ridiculous as I could eat it year round or whenever, but rarely do…it’s a Christmas night tradition 🎄🎅

*Mixed cheeses

You are correct, cheese is the best bit of Christmas.

Wasajollyhappysoul · 18/12/2022 21:14

@Oysterbabe Right?!

Chestnut stuffing and bread sauce.

Wasajollyhappysoul · 18/12/2022 21:15

@samsmum2 Really (tilts head) 😅

A jar of pickled eggs! Never get them any other time of year but a pickled egg is a must-have accompaniment to Christmas leftovers, along with a glass of cloudy lemonade.

Wasajollyhappysoul · 18/12/2022 21:18

@pelargoniums Ive never actually had a picked egg 🥺

I do love the cheeses that’s a very good call.

Two things for me that I’d never have any other time:

My Mum’s chestnut stuffing (only my Mum’s will do!)
Brandy butter

Suemademedoit · 18/12/2022 21:21

Mince pies!
roasted parsnips
trifle
christmas cake
posh chocs
stuffing
turkey and cranberry sauce

basically all of it 😂

samsmum2 · 18/12/2022 21:14

Chestnut stuffing and bread sauce.

This. And the cheese

MolesOnPoles · 18/12/2022 21:21

Roast potatoes with cranberry sauce and bread sauce. The rest of the meal is totally unnecessary.

Allthingsbrightandugly · 18/12/2022 21:23

Chestnut & cranberry stuffying
decent Bucks fizz
alll the cheese

Mrsjayy · 18/12/2022 21:26

We have cheese biscuits and pickled onions NYE in front of the telly .

Ultimate Christmas food is pigs in blankets 😋

FlyingPandas · 18/12/2022 21:27

For me it has to be day-old Christmas pudding which has been chilled in the fridge, served with a large slug of my mum's brandy butter (which is basically a delicious butter icing laced with brandy). Absolutely delicious! I love Christmas pudding served hot on Christmas Day but there's something about eating the cold leftover pudding (which goes really chewy and luscious) that is just perfect.

SparkyBlue · 18/12/2022 21:27

The leftover turkey and ham made into sandwiches on white bread with real butter.

sweatervest · 18/12/2022 21:28

A really posh massively chocolatey Yule log. Have never made one but will literally not even need cutlery and will just hoover of the plate asap.

Mrsjayy · 18/12/2022 21:30

My dad used to fry Christmas pudding on boxing day egg and bacon, nobody else liked it so he had a small one to himself.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/12/2022 21:31

Boxing Day Toast. White bread, turkey dripping.

superdupernova · 18/12/2022 21:36

Home made potato croquettes. It's not dinner without them.

Ragwort · 18/12/2022 21:37

Surely cheese, crackers and pickled onions can be eaten any time ... do you avoid it usually for health reasons OP ... it's the sort of thing I have at least a couple of times a week. Christmas food for me is things that would be hard to buy/make at other times of the year, like cheese footballs Blush although they are not as good as they used to be.

C1N1C · 18/12/2022 21:39

Pigs in blanket!!!

Wasajollyhappysoul · 18/12/2022 21:39

@Ragwort They can be eaten at any time, but it’s just a Christmas thing for me 🤷🏻‍♀️The big selection packs of mixed cheeses

Oh and smoked salmon, cream cheese and poached eggs on crumpets on Christmas Day morning..and weird one maybe…garlic mushrooms

Opening the fridge and seeing bowls and bowls full of leftover turkey, ham, roast potatoes and gravy and yes eating it all with pickled onions and cheese and a glass of schloer on Christmas night is just heaven.
