What is the ultimate Christmas food?

The one thing at Christmas that you really look forward to eating?

Mine is a plate of mixed cheese, biscuits/crackers and pickled onions on Christmas Day night…it’s the best!

Xmas eve tea of meat and cheese, crusty bread, pickled onions, nibbles.

a strange family tradition of proper melton Mowbray pork pie for Christmas morning.

neverendinglauaundry · 18/12/2022 22:34

Bubble & squeek and homemade mince pies are my favourite Christmas things. And gravy obviously. Bread sauce (whatever it is) can do one

I'm really excited to sit down on Christmas night with a slice of my very first home made Christmas cake. I've been lovingly soaking it in vanilla spiced rum for the last 4 weeks and sneaking a slither each week it's bloody lovely. I'm icing it tomorrow 😁 apricot jam, marzipan, fondant icing, cute Xmas tree decorations and ribbon. Silly but super excited.

@Diedre44 I made my first this year too! Vanilla spiced rum sounds delish I may give that a whirl next year!

I'm lying in bed getting hungry reading through these posts! Agree on the cheese and crackers, also have a few different pates and chutneys as well. Also love a leftover sandwich on Christmas evening and Boxing Day - turkey, stuffing, sausage meat, pigs in blankets, mayo and cranberry sauce on seeded bread. Or if I'm feeling really wild, I might even add some leerdammer, gammon, red cabbage and salad leaves in there too!

Thursa · 18/12/2022 23:04

Many years ago a friend told me she used leftover bread sauce, with added grated cheese and a wee bit mustard mixed in, put onto toast and grilled, like a rarebit. It was delicious and I haven’t had it in years…

katesbushh · 18/12/2022 23:08

Definitely my boxing day breakfast of cheese and pickled onions on toast.

AriettyHomily · 18/12/2022 23:13

Bubble and squeak on Boxing Day.

Mydogatemypurse · 18/12/2022 23:16

Cold meats (turkey, ham, beef) with pickles, horseradish, mustard, cranberry sauce and crusty bread. With bucks fizz

purplecorkheart · 18/12/2022 23:22

Crispy parma ham, it is a wrap on a dish. I have no interest in the actual main ingredients but love the crispy parma ham. Also love the crispy bits of the roast potatoes left over in the roasting dish. Also the gravy.

All of these I could have any day of the year but they taste way better at Christmas

ChicagoBears · 18/12/2022 23:25

For me it’s a massive cheeseboard with fresh homemade bread and all the chutney’s.

And posh chocs!

Didicat · 18/12/2022 23:35

My dad’s stovies using the leftover beef on Boxing Day sadly at home not at the parents this year :(

meetmynewusername · 18/12/2022 23:44

Stuffing
Roast potatoes in goose fat
Brandy sauce

yum yum yum!!

mackthepony · 18/12/2022 23:46

Warm mince pies and BB

Diedre44 · 19/12/2022 00:45

I'm inspired I'm going to have to make some beetroot, carrot and chilli chutney. They do a lovely one in M&S (minus the chilli) in the summer but only been able to find bloody caramelised onion or spiced apple and pear? Iirc. Ooooh, oooh and some sliced pink pickled onions. I've got a half day tomorrow from work and I'm going to have a lovely little afternoon baking and making. I saw a YouTube video of a woman making Ritz crackers sandwiched with peanut butter and dipped in chocolate might give them a whirl too, sweet, savoury and salty. 🤤🤤🤤

FrenchBoule · 19/12/2022 00:48

Whatever everybody wants to eat.
One day a year kids get what they want for breakfast. Might be a mince pie, chovolste or crisps. Adults cater for themselves.

10speckledfrogs · 19/12/2022 00:51

All the things I can't have because I'm pregnant

Pate on crispbread
Brie / camembert / stinky soft cheese
Smoked salmon
Baileys hot chocolate

Rarely have them when it isn't Christmas and can't have them again this year

lollipoprainbow · 19/12/2022 00:51

Cold turkey, ham, creamy mash, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, stuffing balls, coleslaw, pickles delish !!

DilemmaDelilah · 19/12/2022 06:17

Definitely the chestnut stuffing. We only have it at Christmas. And the Boxing Day feast of all the leftovers, salad, the ham I cook every year - just delicious!

SomethingOriginal2 · 19/12/2022 06:52

Pate. I never eat it any other time.
Prawn cocktail.
Cola maple gammon 😋

dudsville · 19/12/2022 07:04

I look forward to the cheese too, and then we carry on having it for a month or two before it gets forgotten until next Christmas .

I also look forward to left over or Boxing day pie served in gravey.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/12/2022 07:20

All the cheese
Stollen

Benjispruce4 · 19/12/2022 07:33

Forgot about stollen. Must get some in Aldi.

YukoandHiro · 19/12/2022 07:33

Cold turkey and chips with mango chutney and a side of warmed up chestnut stuffing. The best meal of the whole holiday.

YukoandHiro · 19/12/2022 07:34

@pelargoniums ooh I love a pickled egg but only ever have them in the pub very occasionally. I might have to add this to my Christmas traditions.

Scarecrowrowboat · 19/12/2022 07:35

Cheese and chutney
