Is Playmobil too young for a 7yo?

DC aged 7, School Year 3 has asked for playmobil set for Christmas, they the adventure zoo set.

They have some fine motor delays, and struggle with Lego so I tend to buy Duplo. They’re having OT and Physio input but it won’t be until March. But they absolutely love small world play, they set it up in the hallway and play for hours with the little playmobil people plus small dolls and figures.

My friends with similar age DC seem to think they're a bit old to get playmobil.

So AIBU to buy playmobil or will they be laughed at at school?

Could you do a throwback to his coronation instead? Might be a little bit anachronistic but that’s totally okay with me! Only because I feel the Jubilee still belongs to HMQ (I know that’s a bit silly!).

Above to @SoMuchToBits 😊

@JonahAndTheSnail Unfortunately some of the class parents look down on DC with difficulties, the school itself is lovely and welcoming and DC is extremely happy but some of the class parents are not.

The sad truth is some people are dicks. If it wasn't about this, it would be something else! So best ignored really!

EnterFunnyNameHere · 04/12/2022 11:53

I think the opinion of people who "look down on DC with difficulties" is about the least important one out there tbh...

Why would a 7 year old be teased at school for playing with an age appropriate toy? Confused All the kids I know of this age absolutely love Playmobil.

SlashBeef · 04/12/2022 12:03

I still like playing with my kids playmobil at the age of 32.. 😆

SoMuchToBits · 04/12/2022 12:04

@TangledWebofMincemeatDeception yes, it would be a kind of celebration of his coronation from 70 years ago! But don't want to derail this thread. I'm pleased you've bought the Playmobil OP!

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 04/12/2022 12:13

Ah that sounds great @SoMuchToBits.👑

I’m also very pleased that you’ve bought the set @BuyThePlaymobil. I’m sure your DD/DS will love it!

Noonesperfect · 04/12/2022 15:43

My son doesn't play with it anymore, but still likes it. He sometimes buys the adult Playmobil's cars, like a Porsche etc. I still love looking at playmobil catalogues and I'm in my fifties 🤣

Lego is great practice to gain fine motor skills op.

Lego is great practice to gain fine motor skills op.

@MoreSleepPleasee OT has said to leave it for now as DC really hates it, they'll work on it in their sessions as it's too do with the grip in their fingers.

My ds played with his Playmobil up until early teens. And the Playmobil boxes usually say age 4-10 on them. So I would say it's perfect for age 7.

Really good for kids that age to play with toys like this. I find it quite sad that so many children don't play with toys any more. Although I still have fun making scenes with ds's Playmobil as an adult! Xmas Wink

I was about to mention your Playmo fabulousness SoMuchToBits. Age restriction? PAH!!!

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 04/12/2022 16:15

I’ve got the playmobil pyramid for a 10yo this year and it literally says 6-12 years on the box. I can’t fathom how anyone could think it wasn’t appropriate at 7. Maybe the playmobil 1-2-3 range…

Notanotherone6 · 04/12/2022 16:23

7 is an absolutely perfect age for Playmobil. Some of the bits can be extremely fiddly for younger children. I'd buy Playmobil for my kids until they're about 10 years old.

MissGroves · 04/12/2022 16:26

My daughter got playmobil age 5. Now she is almost 8 she has started playing with it lots! I really don't think 7 is too old for playmobil - I think some children grow up too quickly these days.

Dolares · 04/12/2022 16:30

OP, my 7yo struggles with Lego due to fine motor difficulties. Its caused a lot of tantrums this weekend actually (Grandparents bought her a Lego advent calendar) So you've inspired me to have a look at Playmobil.

A lot of her friends at school seem to be into TikTok (we've attended several themed birthday parties) which I think is astranger thing to be into than Playmobil at this age to be honest.

DoubleNit · 04/12/2022 16:38

My 7 year old has asked for another Playmobil set for Christmas, camping with light up campfire. She prefers it to Lego, I think the ready made aspect of it makes it easier for her to make up stories.

birdglasspen · 04/12/2022 16:56

They like it. Why do you care what others think? Seven is not too old. Sadly now a days children are stopping playing with toys at a young age because they have far too much screen time. Please buy playmobil, what fun imaginary play.

Yfory · 14/03/2023 16:56

If your child is asking for it......... Id buy it. Its what they are asking for and wanting to play with. 7 is in no way too young for playmobile. I know of teenagers and adults who are avid collectors - not many but its definitely a thing!

Yfory · 14/03/2023 16:56

Ooooops sorry - Ive ressurected a ZOMBIE thread. Sorry everyone!

BaileysBreakfast · 14/03/2023 19:28

My 9 and 11 year olds still play with playmobil. With their friends when they come over. Admittedly 11 year old’s friends are mostly into video games now but that doesn’t mean they won’t play playmobil sometimes too
