To now think my cat has psychic abilities

So something happened this morning that I really cannot explain. My cat was walking past the bookcase, and suddenly jumped in the air and sped away, stopping about a meter away from that spot, she then stopped staring intently behind her at the book case and then 5 seconds later a book fell onto exact spot she was in when she spontaneously jumped. It was as if she knew the book was going to fall in that exact spot about 5 seconds before it even moved from the bookcase.

Really, really strange. 😱

Anyone else have any spooky stories regarding their pets?

There was a mouse behind the book!

I hope not! 🤣

She saw the book slip, jumped, and then the book finished slipping and fell out.

I nearly typed Rat Grin

Yarrawonga · 30/11/2022 10:32

I expect she actually heard the book moving before it fell.

Passthecheeseboard · 30/11/2022 10:32

I don’t think the book did slip, it was securely against books on either side neatly tucked away in the bookcase, I looked when I saw the cat react and didn’t see any movement before the book fell… It’s also strange that the book fell, I don’t really see how it would spontaneously fall like that, it was almost like it was thrown. So strange… It was like the cat could sense something too, never seen her react like that before. Also strange she seemed to know the exact spot the book was going to land. 🤔

Can I share my horror morning with You, my cat is not psychic just an areshole!

5.30am I walk into the kitchen to Vomit all over my kitchen chair and floor and i mean a mountain! I cant cope with this so wake dp who comes to clean it up, go to put the kettle on and see the Lasagne from last nights tea has not been put away, instead someone left it on the hob with a tea towel over it Confused I was out last night so no idea why this has been done!
Anyway to cut a long story short my Cat had channelled his inner Garfield and munched his way through most of what was left in the 8 years ive had him he has never jumped on the sides

I walk into the living room and another 2 massive piles of Vom on the carpet, cue shouts to dp to sort it obvs, then to top it all off dp uses kitchen roll to clean it up and puts it down the loo which causes a massive blockage, We dont own a plunger so a trip to the recyling bin to retrieve a pop bottle to use in the dark.

Honestly all this before 5.45 and a coffee. Cats are dickheads 😂

What book was it? Maybe it was a sign!

I think it was your DH who was the dickead if he left the lasagne out

My usually very loving cat started to recoil and pull a "sucking lemon" face when he came near me. I had breast cancer but didn't know at the time. He's fine now and if he did it again, I'd go and get myself checked out.

Obki · 30/11/2022 10:41

Your cat is not psychic. But I sense she is fed up with your dodgy bookcase.

Newwardrobe · 30/11/2022 10:41

Sadly my next door neighbour died and wasn't found for weeks. During this time our outdoor cat suddenly refused to go outside, as soon as the body was removed, she happily went out again.

I think cats and dogs can smell illness. Amazing.

I have heard of dogs who can sense cancer in their owners, it makes sense that cats have this ability too… Amazing… Hope your are well now

This is so sad… my brother is a police officer and he’s told me how common it is for people to die in their homes and not be found for a long time after 😔

@Passthecheeseboard we had only been in our house a few weeks and so didn't really know the neighbour or his routine, so didn't realise something was wrong.

Mummieslncorporated · 30/11/2022 10:50

Cats whiskers sense vibrations. There was clearly some movement, even if you didn't see it.

Oh no, cat sick is the worst🤢… Although if the lasagna was left out the cat probably just thought it was fair game… Did the cat eat the whole lasagna? 😯

I do believe that cats have a sixth sense. I foster cats from the local animal home, I'm on my 31st cat and practically all of them act differently the day they go to their new homes, hiding, not letting me near them/stroke them etc, which they would usually do. This is all before I get the cat carrier or anything out,so nothing is different, I can't explain it.

My cat does this before I go on holiday… or before a vet trip, or even putting some flea treatment on the back of her neck (basically anything she doesn’t approve of!)… it’s like she just knows and holds a grudge about it , although she does eventually forgive me for betraying her trust😂

He smelt it. Dogs can smell cancer too.
