To wonder why crinkle cut oven chips exist?

So, my online grocery shop today have given me crinkle cut oven chips as a substitute for normal nice straight cut oven chips. I don’t like crinkle cut chips, I don’t know anyone that does. They always end up half soggy.

Why do shops even sell them? Does anyone actually like them? Do people actually buy them?

I absolutely love crinkle cut.

shinynewapple22 · 25/11/2022 16:48

There's something wrong with the way you are cooking them if they end up soggy. Personally I find the crinkle ones easier to get just right . Unless they are the coated ones, I find with the straight cut ones it's hard to get that point between uncooked and soggy or burnt .

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2022 16:50

It's the crinkles , they just taste better

crinkle cut chips in a deep fat fryer.....glorious!

thesugarbumfairy · 25/11/2022 17:00

I bloody love them. Frozen ones Done in an air fryer. Yum.
Back in the day, my nan cut them by hand with the crinkle cutter, then deep fried them. Also yum

crazycanuck · 25/11/2022 17:00

Crinkle cut all the way. It’s the straight cut ones that come out all soggy, unless they’re shoestring.

Phos · 25/11/2022 17:03

They're SOOOOOO much better than straight cut!

WeWereInParis · 25/11/2022 17:04

Because they are so much nicer than straight cut!!

ChocolateCakeYum · 25/11/2022 17:04

I love them.

Crinkle cut oven chips in a Tefal stir air-frier........ heaven!!!!!!! 😋👍

Done them like this for years.

LouLou198 · 25/11/2022 17:06

Because they are the best! My mum used to make them like this with a special crinkle cutter. I wondering now if she still has it!

Womanofcustard · 25/11/2022 17:18

Crinkle cut every time!

BellePeppa · 25/11/2022 17:24

I prefer them. Why do you think you speak for everyone’s oven chip tastes?

JustPassingTyhme · 25/11/2022 17:44

Ah, it’s all of you that are to blame for their existence then. 😁I’m glad some people like them, I didn’t realise this would be such a divisive topic.

You have all inspired me to give them another chance. I think I’ll try them in the air fryer tomorrow. I will update you with my final verdict.

We deep fry all chips and eat them almost every night. Mmmmm

justthecat · 25/11/2022 17:51

After the air fryer sprinkle with grated cheese and 1 1/2 min in microwave

Turquoisa80 · 25/11/2022 17:51

I've been having the aldi crinkle cut chips lately and they're nice, really golden and crispy. Maybe it's the brand

gogohmm · 25/11/2022 18:06

ChocolateBauble · 25/11/2022 18:06

Crinkle cut are the best, I really dislike straight cut oven chips!

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/11/2022 18:07

They are superior. And hold more mayonnaise.

Yes, you heard right ketchup face: mayonnaise.

It’s not divisive. We all like them, you are plain wrong.

“Chip salt” sent me back to my childhood… you used to be able to get salt and vinegar flavoured salt…I suppose the same stuff they make salt and vinegar crisps with. It was in a little orange tub….I loved it!

sanityisamyth · 25/11/2022 18:51

They give me a splitting headache. Not sure why. Normal straight cut chips are fine!
