They've taken the Qatar gig for the money and screw everyone else.

Beckham saying it's to support future progress and Williams saying people complaining are doing so on Chinese technology so it's hypocritical.

Just own it. You love the money so much, despite already having huge wealth, you just couldn't resist it.

I agree it’s all about the cash. Same with linekar and Gary Neville too of course it is but I also think all this complaining about Qatar is irritating now and I wish everyone would stop. Qatar are hosting and we’ve known about it for what 10 years? were people complaining now also complaining consistently over the last 10 years? If yes then they should carry on if not then they too are hypocrites.

KangarooKenny · 19/11/2022 08:31

I agree. You could say the same for all the players.

YellowTreeHouse · 19/11/2022 08:31

Oh fgs. People just need to stop whinging.

Why?

balalake · 19/11/2022 08:53

Players are not there for the money, but the attempt to win the most important international trophy available.

Agree about the OP re David Beckham and Robbie Williams, though would add keeping a high profile to it.

TwoMonthsOff · 19/11/2022 08:57

Doesn’t Beckham also promote Quatar as a destination for something on YouTube ?

They will make plenty of money for it.

AnguaResurgam · 19/11/2022 09:02

I can see why David Beckham's involved - after all, football is his thing.

Less persuaded about entertainers

Yeah, I mean it’s only human rights FFS. Let YellowTreeHouse enjoy their football.

Georgeskitchen · 19/11/2022 09:09

The world cup is going ahead in Qatar whether we like it or not so people can choose to either support it or not

Abraxan · 19/11/2022 09:10

The whole thing is about money to be honest.

Luckydip1 · 19/11/2022 09:12

Let's just enjoy the tournament, it only happens once every four years and the football is on a different level to the domestic games.

SparklersandSausages · 19/11/2022 09:12

All of them make me feel a bit ill. Including the reporters, reporting on it all with a “well we have to”

I’m old enough to remember Apartheid. Schools shouldn’t be watching, business shouldn’t be watching or sponsoring, celebs should be saying “hell no, this is wrong (and damaging to my image fgs!)”

But they are cowardly, stupid and greedy.

It’s not the same for the players. They are there as it’s literally their job and if they refused to go can you imagine how the more knuckle dragging type fans would carry on?

RopeyOldBird · 19/11/2022 09:13

How does it compare with holidaying in Dubai though?

I’d have more respect for them if they took a stand against the problems and didn’t go.

changingstages · 19/11/2022 08:51

Because it’s happening and you can’t change that so why waste your energy?

I’m not a football fan.

There was a HUGE fuss when Qatar got the World Cup and it's been rumbling on ever since.

There are two types of people in life. Those that give a shit and stick to their principles and those that don't. Beckham, Williams, Linekar and Neville are prioritising their careers over their principles.

I'm boycotting it and always planned to. The only thing I'll pay attention to is whether there's a backlash to Kane wearing the One Love armband.

Meanwhile, I hope the tournament is a damp squib.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 19/11/2022 09:20

Yes, I’d have more respect if they were up front and said “It’s a shit load of cash, so I’m not turning it down!”

Instead they justify and excuse.

Lineker I have more tolerance as it’s his literal job, like the players. He has a contract with the BBC. Beckham and Williams have no excuse.

Cocacolathanks · 19/11/2022 09:20

Holidays in Dubai and Tel Aviv?

Products from China?

if you really get into it, most countries have a disgusting bloody history.

I would probably put the USA on top in fact, when it comes to a bloodthirsty history and human rights violations.

that doesn’t mean I in any way support Qatar’s laws, but I do think it’s very hypocritical.

HRTQueen · 19/11/2022 09:24

It’s tarnished DB here in the UK elsewhere probably not so much

as for RW when did he last have a hit they must have been quite desperate to get him to perform

Players and commentators it’s their job

knittingaddict · 19/11/2022 09:25

RopeyOldBird · 19/11/2022 09:13

Plenty of people don't holiday in Dubai on principle. I wouldn't go there.

Alexandernevermind · 19/11/2022 09:29

I think protests should be at the organisers. Celebs are there for the money and the party. We hold them too high in esteem. They will occasionally virtue signal if it suits them or helps their careers, but they aren't going to make a stand if it hits them in the pocket.

Forever42 · 19/11/2022 09:30

were people complaining now also complaining consistently over the last 10 years?

There was a lot of outrage when they were awarded the world cup and ongoing campaigns since.
