They've taken the Qatar gig for the money and screw everyone else.

Beckham saying it's to support future progress and Williams saying people complaining are doing so on Chinese technology so it's hypocritical.

Just own it. You love the money so much, despite already having huge wealth, you just couldn't resist it.

There was a HUGE fuss when Qatar got the World Cup and it's been rumbling on ever since.

There are two types of people in life. Those that give a shit and stick to their principles and those that don't. Beckham, Williams, Linekar and Neville are prioritising their careers over their principles.

I'm boycotting it and always planned to. The only thing I'll pay attention to is whether there's a backlash to Kane wearing the One Love armband.

Meanwhile, I hope the tournament is a damp squib.

Are you going to wear a "I'm boycotting the world cup t shirt". Let everyone know.

The next one is being hosted by the Americas and Mexico. I'm sure you can find something to protest about those fine nations. Racism, drugs, gang slaughter.

You get the gist poppet, stick to ones principles.😂

kopiy · 19/11/2022 09:54

I think time will judge it badly and it will represent more than just exploitation in football but a wider problem with the 1%

Yes it's a wider issue

CantFindTheBeat · 19/11/2022 09:56

@RedAppleGirl

Are you a man?

"You get the gist poppet, stick to ones principles.😂"

What a mysoginistic put-down.

If you're not a man, you're clearly not a supporter of women. I can see bag you're a fan of Qatar.

LikeTearsInRain · 19/11/2022 09:58

Yep own it. I would do the same as them.

Money talks and keeps your kids and grandkids and beyond in comfort.

Parker231 · 19/11/2022 09:59

Abraxan · 19/11/2022 09:10

The whole thing is about money to be honest.

Exactly - the players and TV presenters don’t have enough courage to refuse to go to Qatar.

ArseMenagerie · 19/11/2022 10:00

People always fall for the zero sum application of morality as if that justifies any sort of behaviour that benefits them - live as a blameless nun or you can’t judge me. No, that doesn’t mean you get to behave how ever you want, how about a little personal accountability?

startfresh · 19/11/2022 10:03

@BonnesVacances thanks for your post. I'd not heard about Kane'a armband. I've just read that the FA are willing to be fined for him to wear it and teared up (pregnancy hormones). It's the little things 💕

vera99 · 19/11/2022 10:03

DB's mouth is stuffed with Qatar blood money .....

Kpo58 · 19/11/2022 10:03

kopiy · 19/11/2022 09:51

Yes we need to take a stand against china and be prepared to pay more for goods not made with the sweat of the oppressed and exploited. We need to bring more manufacturing to the UK and be prepared to pay for it.

People want cheap though...:

I'm not sure that's the entire truth. I think that as our wages are worth less than 10 years ago and the cost of living keeps rising, it's harder to make ethical choices. If your last top is mostly holes and you only have £10 to spend, then you won't be getting a £40 t-shirt that's been hand made in the UK with ethical fairtrade cotton.

CantFindTheBeat · 19/11/2022 10:04

@vera99

Just disgusting, isn't it.

kopiy · 19/11/2022 10:05

@ArseMenagerie what does that mean? If I was David or Robbie with their wealth, would I do this? no.

However I'm not going to criticise someone flying to watch it or watching it here because I have taken 5 flights this year, am typing on a iphone & have shares in companies involved with Qatari money. Qatari money is all over the U.K. Where's the line between personal accountability & hypocrisy?

kopiy · 19/11/2022 10:07

@Kpo58 that's a good point & our wages have seen little growth since 08 & they will keep declining. However people have got used to more quantity of something & many do like cheap. Often it's a double edged sword anyway. You buy something cheap but spend more on tax to support a business paying low wages.

TintinHadToBeMale · 19/11/2022 10:09

What a newsflash, football is all about money and rich male footballers give not one shiny shit about women’s rights.

This is modern Britain folks. Nice isn’t it? If you’re male and rich.

kopiy · 19/11/2022 10:11

Look at that poor little boy Awaab Ishak who died due to shit housing conditions. Plenty of children live in shitty conditions, to me that's incredibly unethical.

vera99 · 19/11/2022 10:11

Well in terms of PR since this is what it is all about and money I would say it's a big fail for the country, DB and RW. Qatar has spent eye-watering amounts of money for no sustainable end and hopefully, DB and RW can gorge on the cash but their reputation as such as it was has taken a nosedive. Oh and that of FIFA - never been lower.

I'm not a supportive of the hyperbolic narrative surrounding this world cup.

And no I'm not a man
You most definitely do not speak for all women.

i haven’t taken any flights, I have been on less than 5 flights in my life, I am not rich enough to own shares and most certainly do not have any contact with Qatari money. I’m merely one of the idiot women workers who have to work for everything while the born rich middle class sneer. So I can freely criticise them then - and you - by your argument, and will continue to do so.

GatoradeMeBitch · 19/11/2022 10:15

Oh fgs. People just need to stop whinging.

Unfortunately, over 6500 migrant workers are unable to "whinge" as working on the Qatar project killed them.

But how dare we ruin your football fun (when it will already be ruined by the quarter finals when England fans traditionally start their whingeing.)

LynneBenfield · 19/11/2022 10:15

YANBU, OP but who gives a shit about human and workers rights when straight, white, multi-millionaire entertainers need to top up their coffers.

vera99 · 19/11/2022 10:16

Amnesty International report - should be shown before each match.

CantFindTheBeat · 19/11/2022 10:16

@RedAppleGirl

I can't believe a woman would use that language to shut down and shut up a perfectly reasonable opinion from a fellow woman.

I suspect I speak for more women than you do.

kopiy · 19/11/2022 10:16

@TintinHadToBeMale lol "born rich", my parents were immigrants. I'm not rich at all, I don't think I'm middle class as judging by MNs that's a very English thing.

But you agree with me, I can't criticise without being hypocritical because I had to fly a lot this year (to visit family after covid).

RedToothBrush · 19/11/2022 10:17

Fans who have gone to Qatar are comparing it to Fyre Festival as the fan accommodation and areas are so bad.

Then you have Fifa's President Gianni Infantino saying incomprehensibly

'I think for what we Europeans have been doing the last 3,000 years we should be apologising for next 3,000 years before starting to give moral lessons to people.'

Infantino added: 'Today I feel Qatari. Today I feel Arabic. Today I feel African. Today I feel gay. Today I feel disabled. Today I feel (like) a migrant worker.

'Of course I am not Qatari, I am not an Arab, I am not African, I am not gay, I am not disabled. But I feel like it, because I know what it means to be discriminated, to be bullied, as a foreigner in a foreign country. As a child I was bullied - because I had red hair and freckles, plus I was Italian so imagine.

The tournament hasn't started yet.

It will be like this every day of its duration.

ThePoshUns · 19/11/2022 10:18

RopeyOldBird · 19/11/2022 09:13

How does it compare with holidaying in Dubai though?

It doesn't at all. I wouldn't go there either.
Robbie Williams is a cock anyway.

So how do you think change comes about, ever. If everyone just shrugged their shoulders and said "well, I can't change that" then women wouldn't have the vote. People are making a fuss to try and precipitate change to the culture of sport washing, ie buying major international sporting events using corrupt means in an attempt to gain acceptance from the international community for their appalling regimes.

It’s happening in a couple of days. It’s too late now.

If you wanted to enact change about this you should have been trying years ago, not start whinging the few days before where it’s not possible to do anything.
