I'll start. As a young teenager I wrote to a celebrity and received a signed photo with my name and a personalised specific message on. It was on my bedroom wall for years I went to uni and left it behind. While I was at uni, my mum remarried and moved house. I was not involved in the packing and moving . My things all went into boxes into the loft of the new house.
Fast forward to about 3 years ago (27 years after the house was packed up) I am unloading my laundry basket (recent purchase from dunelm) there's a cardboard stiffener at the bottom that comes away and under there is my photo. Not a photo, but the exact one. I was so baffled and a bit scared I actually cried. In the 27 years I have lived in 7 different homes, all small so I have regularly had to streamline my things. I know what I own. There was literally no way it could have been there. I'd never stored anything in the laundry basket other than laundry. It genuinely still baffles me. Anyone else had a similar experience?

I want to learn more about it, I would absolutely love to go back in time I'd worry that I'll be stuck there, terrifying thought.

Many experiences but a short one was when I was 19 I was living away from home whilst at university and came back for Xmas
On Xmas eve I went to midnight mass with my DF, DM didn’t come as she was too tired - next morning she asked me if I’d enjoyed the service and if any of her friends were there - I mentioned a few people I’d seen including 2 members of the congregation that had died whilst I’d been away

This thread keeps closing, 3 times now for me. So went on to read other threads. None of those have closed. Came back on and it closed again! Someone doesn't want me to read these...

When I was around 7 or 8 years old in the early to mid 70's, I was woken up by a strange & loud rattling sound! I was fine I mean not scared or even that worried until I reached up & flicked the light switch which was above me on the wall where you'd expect it to be......I had a hideous wicker sort of 1970's ugly thing sort of long rather than wide & it was swinging wildly to the rattling which it could never have done even if shaken by hand! I screamed & mum came in told me not to be so bloody stupid & go back to sleep!! It never ever happened again after that, it was a calm still night, no wind or draughts etc, it still makes me shudder today! I never forgot this incident, it was a very real experience & has had me curious about paranormal worlds ever since! I did experience a couple more things in much later life but was overtired during one & coming down from amphetamines the second time so cannot say for sure what really happened although the last one in 2004 was really weird & made no sense at all! Creepy & very unexplained all the same.......Stopped using amphetamines after the last one! Timeslips really fascinate me & always have, I would love to experience one! 🤔

NickEccles · 16/11/2022 02:28

It was the wicker lampshade that was rattling or the 'Old' wiring from which the light fitting hung from! This was replaced sometime later as it was dangerous & no it was no electrical sound either it was deffo a mechanical type sound......

Alleycat1 · 16/11/2022 04:34

I have had many strange experiences. This is the most recent one.
I was preparing lunch in the kitchen and my husband had gone to a friend's to help him with a DIY project. I heard our car coming up the lane and saw it backing onto our driveway. I turned away to get something from the larder and when I turned back, after about 10 seconds, there was no sign of the car or my husband. My husband didn't come home until 20 mins later.

I’m a midwife (may or may not be relevant).

Every now and again a random person will pop into my head and I’ll think “they are pregnant or their partner is pregnant”
Within a few months they announce or I find out they are pregnant.

It can range from people who are close to me to people I never speak to anymore from school, old workplaces etc. Sometimes it’s people that may be “expected” to have a baby soon, recent marriage etc. But sometimes it can be completely random, single people, very new relationships etc.

I get this all the time too. Exactly how you describe. At my old job at a nursery I would know which parents would be having a new baby soon or announcing. And staff too x

mutationseagull · 16/11/2022 07:41

A few people have mentioned experiences where they have seen or heard people arriving home etc before they actually arrived. This is known in Scandinavian folklore as a Vardøger. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vardøger

Oh.

well in that case it got stuck in your stuff somewhere.

It really wasn't. My belongings are streamlined as lived in lots of small places

@Lj8893 I'm exactly the same. I can tell if someone has conceived just by looking at them. I've told a few people they were pregnant before they've known themselves.
I also get it where people pop into my head and I think 'I bet they're pregnant' and they always are!

I get that, but somehow this got stuck on something and travelled with you.

There’s no other explanation. And while it’s surprising, it’s not inexplicable.

So I just read this to DH and he said to me - I have a story......

When I was 9yrs old I was playing at my friends house. He had this watch and we were playing in his room. There was a tiny cavity in the wall of his room hidden away and I hid the watch inside it. I thought it would be funny - not sure why, I was 9yrs old. But then I completely forgot about it.

Fast forward several years later - and my friend starts telling people in school this 'ghost' story about how he'd lost his watch one day as a kid and his family had turned the house over looking for it.

Then one day they were redecorating and found this watch hidden in the wall and no one could explain how it got there so they said it was a ghost.

To which I said - OMG did you tell him it was you?

DH replied - nah he thought it was a cool ghost story, he's probably on some sort of Dadsnet now retelling it 😂😂

🙄

@Moranguinho literally can't tell an even slightly funny anecdote here without someone taking offence.....he was 9yrs old! Sorry let me LTB

@NosyNeighbour22

i knew my dad was going to die when he said my grandad had been in to visit him (he had been dead a few years).

Clovacloud · 16/11/2022 11:04

I’m a huge family history nerd, and I love reading old newspapers to see what my ancestors have been up to. And I think I came across a time slip story in a 1898 local newspaper.

There was a story about a local man, who had walked out into the lane in front of his house. Apparently he saw hundreds of people in the lane, and terrified he ran to the neighbours screaming about seeing all these people. They went out, just saw an empty lane, but he insisted they had been there. The neighbours by this point thought he had gone mad (which in fairness he might have done), and called the police. He told his story to the police who took him away to calm him down. And then there isn’t any follow up story. Now 100 years later that lane is now a main road, and one of the most walked routes into town with an Aldi and a massive Sainsbury’s on it. I wonder if he had a brief time slip?

If you like time slip stories, Google ‘Suffolk Timeslips’ there have been quite a few there.

I also apologise if anyone here had a ghostly experience at Donnington Castle in Newbury way back in mid summer in the early 2000's.

I was in the Sealed Knot, we were doing a thing, I had been drinking at the little pub in the village and decided to go up to the castle and clear my head a bit. It was just getting to the dark part of twilight and I came across a couple dog walking as I rounded the old tower. They jumped out of their skin, I realised I was still in 17th century kit, so, drunk and embarrassed, I decided the best course of action was to disappear back into the semi darkness and hide 🤣

oh, I've done almost this exact thing! In fact it was at a historic house connected to the original Sealed Knot group. I was in C17th costume and had gone up to the office for a break one afternoon. It was on the second floor at the front of the house, overlooking a drive where visitors came in. I was standing at the window staring into the middle distance, decompressing a bit and not really thinking about anything, when I noticed a bloke on the drive far below staring up at me. He even waved to get my attention. It was clear he was freaking out a bit. I panicked and after a while just... backed away slowly into the room where he couldn't see me. I'm sure he thought I was a ghost. He took a few photos too so I hope he got a good one 😅

There is a good creepy novel about a time slip, “The Victorian Chaise Longue” Marghanita Laski . If anyone fancies an appropriate read !

I can do this too. I have always wandered if it is a scent thing ?

My ex proposed to me, and gave me a ring. A friend asked to see a picture of the ring so I took a picture with it on my finger and sent it to her. I went to take another picture and the ring wasn't on my finger. I looked around the entire house (I hadn't left the house that day so knew it wasn't outside). I couldn't find it anywhere, I ended up calling my ex in tears because I had lost it.

He came home and we both looked around the house. Nothing. I then decided to have a break from looking and take a shower. We had a set of folded up towels in the bathroom, When I lifted the top one and unfolded it the ring fell out from the center of the towel. Zero idea how it got there or even off my finger in the first place.

Same house and same ex: My ex was working away for the weekend and I was alone from Fri-Sun, I went to bed as normal on the Friday night, Woke up on Saturday morning and went downstairs to make a coffee. I then stopped dead in my tracks. On the kitchen counter was box after box after box of empty cornflake boxes, The contents of which were scattered all over the kitchen floor, To the point where you could no longer see the floor, I basically had a new cornflake lino. Even stranger was there were no footprints in them leading to any of the doors, They were all perfectly intact cornflakes. Neither of us liked cornflakes and never bought them and they weren't there the night before when I went to bed. Nothing else in the house was out of place, The doors were locked.

Was on the phone talking to someone and we were talking about celebrities, In reply to something she said I said 'Well, It's not like I'm just going to run into David Walliams in the street is it?' I then rounded a corner and walked right into David Walliams!

I have loads of these!

theshadeofgreen · 16/11/2022 13:30

@crochetmonkey74 have you posted this before? I'm not being snidey at all, but as I was reading I thought heard this exact anecdote and I knew where it was before getting to the end.... but a search of MN tells me I haven't.... which is genuinely making me wonder if this is my
Unexplained thing?!

I've had it a few times over the past few weeks, knowing things I haven't been told yet

Genuinely asking, not trying to be a dick at all but struggling to get the right tone!!

This is so interesting, I am fascinated with time slips but hadn't thought much about them showing future events rather than time slips into the past.

I think there is a street in Liverpool where several accounts have been noted and there is a famous time slip story that occurred in France, at the Palace of Versailles I think.

I wonder if time slips might explain more phenomena. I would definitely prefer to explain ghosts in this way as opposed to the spirits of the dead! Although I love that people dressed up in costumes are accidentally creating ghost stories!

Many years ago I woke in the small hours to the microwave running and then beeping as it finished. Did that cycle a few times as I crept downstairs turning every available light on as I went. Only me and toddler DD in the house. Doors all still locked. Assume it must have gone faulty so pulled the plug out of the wall but didn’t half freak me out!
