I'll start. As a young teenager I wrote to a celebrity and received a signed photo with my name and a personalised specific message on. It was on my bedroom wall for years I went to uni and left it behind. While I was at uni, my mum remarried and moved house. I was not involved in the packing and moving . My things all went into boxes into the loft of the new house.
Fast forward to about 3 years ago (27 years after the house was packed up) I am unloading my laundry basket (recent purchase from dunelm) there's a cardboard stiffener at the bottom that comes away and under there is my photo. Not a photo, but the exact one. I was so baffled and a bit scared I actually cried. In the 27 years I have lived in 7 different homes, all small so I have regularly had to streamline my things. I know what I own. There was literally no way it could have been there. I'd never stored anything in the laundry basket other than laundry. It genuinely still baffles me. Anyone else had a similar experience?

@CarrieMoonbeams depending on how far away your dad's smell would have been familiar to him as you share the same genes.

Wow, I never even knew that was a possibility, that's bizarre.

Mind you, Morse was a Lurcher, so he was a sight hound - not known for their scenting abilities - but it's definitely a possibility. Amazing.

My husband once left to take my son to a Friday night club - a short motorway drive away.

I was left with our two young ones; all of us left, were pottering about in the small house.

Suddenly I heard my husbands voice scream loudly - HELP! I stood bolt upright as my two kids ran to me saying mum, where’s dad? He shouted HELP? I looked outside. No car.

I had a bad feeling.

we are a Christian family so I said let’s pray guys, so we did. For their dads safety and their brother.

I then phoned my husband; he’d started to break down on the motorway with lorries hurtling past but had spotted a small clearing and managed to get the car in to safety. He was panicked but never shouted out in the car.

WEIRD! The 3 of us heard him!

I just remembered today that when I was a child, in a SE Town I saw a flesh coloured ginormous pink spider dead outside of the local bakery. I was thinking about it today. I was a huge camel spider. Where did it come from?

Please tell me you're joking or were dreaming 😩 I live in a SE town.

IncessantNameChanger · 23/11/2022 23:56

No unfortunately not. I remember it clearly because it was bigger than any spider I have ever seen and at first I thought it was a lobster because it was flesh coloured pink. But it had the segmented body and long legs. I only realised what it must have been recently. But in my mind it was about ten inches big, but I was only around six years old and everything was bigger at that age.

Also there's lots of fruit packing / distribution places in the same county and I have seen what comes over in the fruit boxes. I worked in a few as a student. Dh said he saw something run out of a warehouse the size of a rat. But he said it wasn't a rat as it ran like a crab ( shudder!)

But my spider was on a town pavement. No factory's nearby. Just the bakery. I wonder if if was found in produce but what produce??

I found a scorpion alive in a bag of coconuts once. My boss tried to fob me off until I pointed out I was doing a biology degree at the time 😄

Rallyaround · 24/11/2022 00:07

i was pulling up to my boyfriends (now DH) house and just as I was getting out the car, his granny pulled up as well. She got out the car and was in tears and couldn’t talk.
I walked her into the house and said to sit at the kitchen table and she told me and now DH that she had come from the vets and had to put her dog down. She was devastated as he was her best friend.
we must have been chatting for 20 minutes and she started saying how she hadn’t felt like this since her sister had died.
Next thing the kettle just switches itself on. Out the blue. We weren’t even close.
Quick as anything granny says “that’s just my sister telling us to have a cup of tea”.
I was totally freaked out and nothing like this has ever happened since.

One afternoon my friend came to visit me, we were sat in my living room having a cuppa and a catch up.She was looking at my photos on the mantel piece and said that the one of me and my dad was lovely- he passed away in 2016-I said yes I really miss him and we carried on talking about what a character he was.Needless to say I became a little emotional. Approximately an hour after she left I get a text message from Dad-his contact is still in my phone.I opened the message but nothing was there. I was literally gob smacked.I rang mum to ask her if she had been messing with dads old mobile and she said no it was in the back of the wardrobe where she had put most of his belongings after he died.

I have seen two shadow men in my house years ago about 1986. My son was about 7 at the time and I was a single mom. I just went into my bedroom and got in bed. I looked out into the hallway and I saw two 3D shadow men. They were wearing the suits with the long coats and top hats. They looked like they were straight out of the late 1800s and wearing what Abe Lincoln would have worn. I could see them straight on. It was like two men from the 1800s were walking down the streets on a sunny day and their shadows were walking down my hallway only they were 3D not flat. They both turned their heads at the same time and looked in my room and then turned back and went down the hall. I was scared because I thought real men were in my house. I got up went and checked my son and checked every window and door but everything was locked up and they were no where in site. I never knew what they were until 2006 when my husband passed and all kinds of things started happening. I met him in 1997. I did research on After Death Communication and came across shadow people. I finally knew what I had seen back in 1986. They weren't trying to scare me or anything. They just turned their heads, looked in my bedroom and walked on. 🚶‍♀️ I never saw them again, fortunately. No I don't do drugs and I wasn't sleeping. I had just gotten into 🛌.

When I was younger, with young children a gypsy knocked on my door (quite an isolated house) even for then she appeared sort of Romany with long draping skirt, very dark hair and jangling jewlrey all over. She asked if I wanted my palm read, I declined, never believed in such stuff but I did buy some heather off her.
Never had that happen before or since, after giving her some money she looked at me and said "I can see M written all over your face, are you sure you don't want me to tell me your future" I again declined.

I went back in and thought, the letter M what did she mean ?

I counted, my mother, father, sister, brother first names all beggining with M.
2 x brothers middle names
1 x Niece, 4 x nephews middle names.
2 x SIL's first names
1 x child first name
1x child second name
Best friends x 2 first name
Husbands middle name

What's that 18 names beggining with M, all the very closest of family with the same letter.
I never actually noticed before and it gave me a bit of a shudder, I'll never forget it, or her.

Twopeasinthesamepod · 24/11/2022 04:44

We’ve had so many experiences with ghosts in previous homes that we decided never to buy an older house again and in particular ones where previous owners have passed away. Sorry I haven’t gone into specifics as the post would be never ending. We’re not psychotic and quite a level headed family, and I can say 100% that ghosts do indeed exist.

OilSlick · 24/11/2022 10:38

@IncessantNameChanger I have seen camel spiders "up close and personal" a couple of times and knew straight away what you were describing. Both times were unexpected and set of some primal urge to run, run, run as fast as possible. Simultaneously I was wondering at some level what the fuck a crab was doing ~500km away from the sea in the Arabian desert. They can bloody shift too!

Amazing creatures (I'm told) but fuck that, terrifying.

Got told a story by one of our security guys that was in one of the Gulf Wars - a British Parachute Battalion were waiting to be demobilised somewhere near Kuwait/ Iraq border and watching televised football (Euros?) in a marquee when one was spotted crawling high up inside the fabric, looking like it was about to drop... every last man legged it squealing into the night Grin

Ive got a few woo bits, im pretty sure ive posted a couple in some previous paranormal threads which ill go dig out and copy/paste as they're long, but I dont think ive ever posted about premonitions.

My mother had very strange, very specific and very provable premonitions.
3 of which I remember really well.

1 - I was a kid and we were driving to a NYE party along a dual carriageway. Mum swerved the car almost off the road as if avoiding something. She said a car had come down off the bridge above and she saw it land upside down on its roof and all the windows blowing out. I remember spinning back round to look and there was nothing there. She had said about it at the party and some people had checked local news on the TV to see if anything had been reported but nothing. No sign of it on the way home either.
A few days later we were driving the same piece of road and there was a traffic jam before the bridge. Everything was at a halt. Mum stopped car and got out to see what was going on. She had been gone for 10 minutes or so and I was worried so got out to walk down and find her, I did, she was bent over puking on the verge at the side of the road. Ahead was an upside down car below the bridge with its windows blown out, everyone dead and some blood on the road. A lorry driver had told her that it had been speeding, clipped the central reservation and flipped up in the air. It hadn't come down from the bridge but she had seen it coming down to land after the flip so assumed it had come off the bridge.

2 - I was in my early 20s and living near London. My parents had moved to France at this point. I was planning to go up to Newcastle for a short city break and was finishing early to get the train. Phone calls from mother. Several of them. Are you getting on a train? Dont get on the train. Promise me you wont get on a train. OK mother. Few minutes later rings back - just to remind you DO NOT GET ON A TRAIN. She had freaked me out and I decided i'd just suck it up and drive.
The train I was due to get on was the 5.30 from kings X on 16th June 1998.
The Sandy derailment train.

3 - This is the worst.
In the week leading up to the Zebrugge ferry disaster, mum kept telling me and my dad about these "visions" she was having. Said it was black and white and silent, and she felt like she was losing signal and her signal was being replaced by these strips of black and white film that she was watching without being there. Said that she was watching people panicking, and there was lots of water, and in some parts everything was upside down. She could see people screaming and struggling to escape and that she had seen them drown and there were floating chairs and bags and just screaming and panic.
There was a particular woman she kept referencing, she said the woman had cherry bobble bands in her hair (those old hairbands that had red plastic cherry bobbles on) she kept saying "im watching her drown" "I can see everything and I cant help and I cant make it stop"
My dad and I were weirded out. She had been saying it for a week. We sort of put it down to maybe tiredness or nightmares or that she was a bit woo and downplayed it.
Then the zebrugge disaster happened and was on the news and she flipped out, like crazy. Kept saying ive seen this ive watched this ive seen these people, this is what ive been seeing, ive been telling you about this, ive watched these people drowning, but she hadn't quite fully lost it at this point, was just agitated and a bit I told you so at my and dad.
There were some passenger pictures put up about people who were on the ferry, I cant remember if this was the same night or after, but there was a woman on the tv who had drowned and was pictured with the cherry bobbles in her hair. Mum just started screaming and crying saying cherry bobbles! I watched her die, I could pick her out of the dead. Dad couldn't calm her down so called out the GP who eventually sedated her but she spent a few days after that really distraught and just saying "I could pick her out of the dead" for ages. It was so unnerving because she'd been referencing and describing that exact woman and her fate for a week.

Ive had a premonition once, but nothing even vaguely tragic.

I was walking up the stairs to my flat which I shared with best mate/flatmate some 15 years ago. It was a top floor flat in a block in Edinburgh and not the most salubrious.
I usually got out of breath walking up the stairs but this evening I had sort of entered the front door of the building and made my way up to the flat door seemingly effortlessly and a bit dreamlike state almost as id been reading new graffiti that had been sprayed in black paint all the way up the stairwell to the flat opposites front door.
It said drug dealer lives here --> get your drugs here > (name of neighbour opposite) is drug dealing scum -> police this way to the dealers house ----> etc.
I got in and mate was home so I said, have you seen all that graffiti? Neighbour isnt going to be pleased!
She was like "what?"
I said (sort of taking the p out of her) the unmissable black spray painted graffiti N, keep youre eyes open 😆
She gave me the side eye and said she was going to go look. Got back into the flat, called me a tw*t and said thanks for making me walk up and down the stairs you arse. There's NOTHING THERE.
I was baffled because id read it all. Poked my head out of the door and she was right, nothing there, went down a few flights to check, and nothing.

Thought "weird", had the rest of the evening and went to bed.
Next morning mate is banging on my bedroom door, I get up and she says "are you having a laugh?" nope. what? she says that she left the flat to go to work this morning and the stairwell is covered in black graffiti. the exact same slogans that id told her id read. It had appeared overnight. She thought id gone out and done it in the middle of the night to prove I was right. Although conceded that this was only a half thought as I wouldn't be so stupid. (correct)
I have definitely had a premonition about graffiti.

sorry for the lack of punctuation etc in that, it was quickly typed!

I wrote On this thread earlier about hearing my doorbell ring on three separate occasions the days after my mum died . Thinking about it this morning I realised a running joke in our family was always her asking us to give her three rings to let her know we were home safely. This must have been her way of letting us know she had 'arrived' safely. Don't know why this didn't occur to me before! At the end of her eulogy at her funeral I asked her to give us three rings but she already had.

My partner and I experienced something weird last night. I'd falled asleep on the sofa and my partner was chilling out playing games on his phone on the other sofa.

A loud noise woke me and startled both of us. It sounded like something heavy rolling along the arm of the sofa where I had my head. It dropped onto the floor with a loud, metallic thud. My partner searched everywhere but there was nothing there. We've looked this morning in daylight and there's still nothing. We both heard it and described the sound in much the same way, yet we are utterly baffled as to what might have happened.

We used to have a ginger cat, our house backed onto fields and one day he vanished, we went looking for him and we found him caught in some sort of trap by his tail, we managed to free him and got him to the vets where he was ok but they had to remove about 3 inches of his tail.

After he died few years later we got a black cat to replace him, as he grew he was all black except for the light gingery last few inches of his tail.

I love this!

Finly · 02/12/2022 03:23

It's ALWAYS the woo threads that crash on here. I'd read up to about page 6 or 7, came back to it today and it says I'm on page 12!

I'm so freaked out by reading these stories although the ones like the butterfly, Dad's carousel and Mum giving you 3 rings so you know she's safe are rather lovely. Keep 'em coming... These are my favourite threads 😊

One sunny, hot day about ten years ago I was cycling up a steep hill from my Mum's house with a terrible corner at the top. As I reached the top I "heard" my Mum call my name really loudly and urgently and had this very weird sense of dread that caused me to cry. I pulled into a little lane off the road right at the corner and stopped and sat on the ground shaking for no reason. A moment later a car came up the road on my original intended route at a ridiculously high speed for a blind bend - it wouldn't have seen me and wouldn't have been able to stop, I'm pretty sure at that speed it would've killed me.
I phoned Mum immediately and she was still at home.
Smile something was looking out for me that day!

Something really similar happened to me, I’ve told this story on here before.
A few years ago I was driving out of the hospital after a night shift. I was a bit dazed and sleepy and wanting to get home. There’s a big junction with lights outside the hospital and I was the only car in the outside lane. As I approached the lights a voice in my head shouted ‘get in the inside lane!’. There were already a couple of cars there so I pulled in behind them.
A few seconds later a car came flying round the corner at high speed in the wrong direction in the lane I’d been in. If I’d stayed where I was it would have been a head on collision as it was a blind bend.

I still have no idea why it happened but I really believe someone was looking out for me that day

That reminds of of the time I was in central London. Main shopping street, traffic both ways. I was standing just off the central traffic island in the road waiting to cross.

I suddenly felt an arm grab me by the waist and pull me back onto the island, it felt so real I turned round to see if it was a person as I stepped back. At that moment a motorbike zoomed past on the inside lane. If I hadn’t moved he would have slammed straight into me.
