I'll start. As a young teenager I wrote to a celebrity and received a signed photo with my name and a personalised specific message on. It was on my bedroom wall for years I went to uni and left it behind. While I was at uni, my mum remarried and moved house. I was not involved in the packing and moving . My things all went into boxes into the loft of the new house.
Fast forward to about 3 years ago (27 years after the house was packed up) I am unloading my laundry basket (recent purchase from dunelm) there's a cardboard stiffener at the bottom that comes away and under there is my photo. Not a photo, but the exact one. I was so baffled and a bit scared I actually cried. In the 27 years I have lived in 7 different homes, all small so I have regularly had to streamline my things. I know what I own. There was literally no way it could have been there. I'd never stored anything in the laundry basket other than laundry. It genuinely still baffles me. Anyone else had a similar experience?

@Squiff70 I'm finding these time slip stories like the manor house utterly bewildering. Very very scary.

Weirdly we weren't scared by it at all, just confused. We drove past, saw it, talked about it and that was it. We're confused and perplexed more than anything (it's still a topic of conversation all these years later).
Now, if it had been one of those experiences you hear about where people actually go IN to places that were in a different time, like some mentioned in this thread, then I'd probably never leave the house again!

I'm glad you weren't scared. The unexplained often terrifies me, expecially when it relates to experiences multiple people have with absolutely no apparent explanation.

I've experienced some weird things over the years which I'll describe briefly. They seem so incredibly tame after reading this thread though!

About 12 years ago I was staying with my parents who live abroad. I was single at the time and had gone alone. During my trip, we took a break at the beach. My dad parked in a car park right by the beach at the bottom of a steep hill. After a few hours at the beach and blowing the local town, we returned to the car. I fastened my seat belt but checked it multiple times. I also became temporarily obsessed with making sure my parents were fastened in too. I didn't have OCD and this had never happened to me before (or since). I was confident that all our seat belts were fastened securely. My dad exited the car park and drove up the steep hill. At the top was a junction and as my dad stopped, a car sped up the hill behind us and slammed into the back of us. Thankfully we were unhurt but shocked. The car was quite badly damaged. That evening we went out for dinner. Whilst we were waiting to order food, I noticed my hands were blue despite it being a warm summers evening. My dad noticed too. We concluded it was due to shock. Not of the accident itself but my strange unknowing 'prediction' that something was going to happen after I explained my obsession with the seat belts. My dad said "you've done this before, haven't you". I had, but it was so long ago now I can't remember what had happened although at the time of this accident it was still fresh in my mind.

A few years ago I had a very sudden deep concern for my closest friend. It had only been 3 days since we'd last spoken and he hadn't said anything in our most recent conversation which had worried me. We often went a few weeks without speaking which, for us, was normal. I knew I had to contact him at that exact moment. I did, and he was in an ambulance being blue lighted to hospital following a suspected heart attack. We were both in our 30s. Thankfully he was okay.

Again, a few years ago I rang my parents in their home country (not UK) but there was no answer. Normally this wouldn't worry me at all because we all had very busy lives and missed each other frequently if a call wasn't planned. Instantly I started to worry that something bad had happened. I told myself not to be silly and that they were just out shopping or attending an appointment. It turned out my dad had been up a ladder pruning a hedge when the ladder buckled underneath him, sending him plummeting. He broke both arms and had two black eyes, many cuts and bruises and was obviously shaken. At the time I'd tried to ring the first time, he was in an ambulance on his way to hospital.

As a young child, about 7 years old, I was given a doll for Christmas. The doll had a dummy which you could insert into its mouth. I adored that doll and it was honestly the only thing I wanted for Christmas that year. I was so thrilled to have got it. That night, Christmas Day night, I took the doll to bed with me. It had the dummy in. The next morning I woke up and the doll was in bed with me but the dummy had gone. I searched everywhere but it didn't turn up. My parents assured me they hadn't taken it, and we don't think my brother could have done either. We had no reason to plus he never went in my room overnight. The dummy never, ever turned up. My bedroom was tiny and I search every inch multiple times. I still have the doll but the dummy was never seen again.

Many strange things have happened to me, most of which I can't explain, but nothing so massive I'd need an exorcist or something!

Wow, those stories are amazing - I wish I had a gift like that!

The day my dad died (in his early 60s) was quite an experience. To be fair he had been in the hospice for just over a week and already had the 'death rattle', but seemed to be hanging on. The rest of my family had gone for lunch while DH and I stayed with dad in the hospice, and they were taking an extraordinarily long time. It was getting towards the end of the day and the nurses came in to turn Dad when suddenly I was completely overcome by what I can only describe as a panic attack, which I've not had before or since.

DH had to take me outside but I couldn't calm down. Shortly after that my family finally arrived back and my mum and siblings came to me to try comfort me – we quickly ushered the kids and partners into a separate room and all gathered round Dad. Within a few minutes his breathing became more laboured, so my brother said (it's okay, you can go now Dad" and literally within seconds Dad took his last breath with us all around him. The next part I think is just from being in a highly emotive state - at that exact moment I felt this incredible whoosh through me from toes to head.

My dad had bought me a little carousel from a Christmas market which you had to light a tea light inside it for it to move. Then if it was lit, the carousel would go round quite quickly. The day after he died, I was back at home and looking at this carousel when it started to move very slowly and went round in one full circle, then stopped.

DH and I had a cat at that time, and the same night the cat ran up to our bedroom, jumped onto our bed and started loudly meowing at the wall - DH and I just stood there staring as we had never seen the cat do something like this (cat was 5 years old.

Mum was quite upset at my experiences as she didn't get any strange things happen :(

The house I live in now is my childhood home.
As far back as I can remember I've always had things happen.
Seen people in Victorian clothing walking across the green outside my house.

Seeing shadows and hearing things.

I'm with my partner a very long time.
When we first started going out my mam used to go to bingo.

One night he went for chips and I heard banging, walking and the bed being moved.
So I went outside to catch my dp out, thinking it was him messing.
But there he was walking down the road with our chips.

This is the same house I had the experience with my son that I seen twice.

It's seems to have quitened down but we still have the odd thing happening.

I do have a great story regarding my cousin's house.
I'll tell that next.

I wouldn't call it a gift or anything of the sort. I guess if I could tap into these things 'at will' then it might be considered as such. I'd also play the lottery a lot! When these strage things happen, they are completely out of the blue and beyond my control. I don't choose for them to happen and cannot 'predict' that they are about to. I can't explain it really.

🙁could it have fallen inside the seams of the dressing gown? This has happened to me before - like a tiny hole inside a pocket and things have fallen down into the garment, i.e. you'd need to turn the pocket entirely inside out to check for any holes, if there is, then run your hands all along every cm of dressing gown to see if you can feel it.

I know this is more unlikely with a dressing gown but it has happened to me with a coat - so thought worth pointing out.

I will give this a go - thankfully I still have the gown!

I still stupidly have hope of finding it. My manager lost her engagement ring once and years later they were decorating and she was painting the skirting board and there was a hole that it had fallen down!

so I’m keeping the faith!

Disappointed that this thread has stopped!

When I was young, about 9 or 10, we had my Gran staying with us. She lived at the other end of the country so it wasn't a usual thing. One night, I woke up and looked across the room to see my Gran standing and looking around the open door of my bedroom towards me. She looked greyish-white, slightly glowing almost. My door was always kept shut, so she would have had to open it. I stared for a little while, no one spoke, and then shut my eyes for a moment. When I opened them she was gone and the door was shut. I went back to sleep, not really thinking anything of it (the 'glow' could have been from the landing light, for example).
The following day at breakfast, I asked her why she'd come into my room and just stared at me for a few moments. She looked really surprised and said that she had been in her bed all night. It can't have been her.
Everyone said I had been dreaming, of course, but I know I wasn't.

Greggsyumyumsmum · 21/11/2022 01:36

That's really strange!
I'd been infertile for over 12 years, was asked if I had children by a Dr, when I said yes, a 13 year old, the reply of "that's a relief, because you're not going to be having any more, it's always terrible telling a childless woman that children aren't on the cards!
Went home, cried. Decided I'd get on with my life, secondary infertility had been a constant concern for all of those 12 years.
Months followed. DH and I weren't really intimate, that particular month we were intimate once.

Nothing out of the ordinary but I dreamt I was pregnant.
I was telling my mum that I didn't want her near my baby, that this was a life she was never going to affect negatively. I woke up, told DH. He laughed.
I did a test, and found out that I was indeed pregnant.

Can't describe how strange it was that I'd dreamt it, I was told I wouldn't be having any more children as a definite.

bluebellstar · 21/11/2022 10:39

Another one from me

When I had my first son I haemorraged quite badly and kept passing out and my blood pressure was dangerously low. Around the same time, around 2:40am, my dad was woken up by my grandma who died 3 years earlier, at the end of his bed saying my name clearly. My dad is a sceptic and it scared him so much and he hasn't told my stepmum to this day about it

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/11/2022 13:48

I used to be able to answer the phone at work (press office) and know it was DH. I used to say hello to him by name before he spoke.
I was only wrong once - very unexpectedly it was my Dad!

You've just reminded me, when my husband's phone rings I sometimes think it 'sounds' like it is his eldest. I mean, he doesn't actually have it set as a different ring tone but I somehow think, oh that sounds like DSD. Weird!

Firecarrier · 21/11/2022 14:23

I think there is a lot of daft stuff written about the mandela effect, but I will say this, I literally experienced the original Mandela effect. I remember being in my old house and hearing on the news that he'd died and it was an instant gut reaction of, that's impossible - I knew for a fact that he had died a few years before and remembered it being all over the news etc, so much so I spoke to my DH and he didn't 'remember' him as already dead.

I even started searching online for when he died because I thought their made a mistake on the news them discovered there was a whole thing about it.

The Mandela effect fascinates me! I used to be really confident in how I remembered things and thought that anyone who remembered differently was wrong, these days I’m not so sure.

The story I have thought of isn’t woo I don’t think, I think it was an error on the phone line but it scared me for ages! About 20 years ago I was calling someone on my mobile, so an old school mobile and there was this awful noise, like a woman screaming down the line. Obviously took the phone away from my ear and after a few seconds it went back to normal ringing. I can’t quite remember now if it happened once or twice - I have a feeling it may have happened twice in the space of a few days. Made me really nervous to make calls for months afterwards and even now sometimes I will randomly remember it when making a call and get worried it’s going to happen! Must have been some sort of feedback or something but it was utterly terrifying, especially as it was obviously right in my ear.

Oh, I just remembered something else. A few months ago, there was a similar thread to this one and as I was reading it, some water splashed onto my feet while I was In the living room. However, there wasn’t any water near me and nothing coming from the ceiling. I wiped it off with my fingers and it was definitely water. Weirdly, there were a few other posters who had stories of random water drips as well…

I've felt rain drops on my arms on several occasions..whilst being in a car/indoors. There must be something with this water theme 🌊

FallingStar21 · 21/11/2022 19:54

PixellatedPixie · 15/11/2022 12:09

I’ve also had a weird experience with water appearing once. When I was a teen and living at home, I had two foam mattresses showed under my bed. One evening I had one pulled out to read on and when I pulled it out there was a circle of fresh water on it. It definitely wasn’t cat pee or a drip as carrot and bed were totally dry. The next day a friend at school told me that he has found a perfect circle of water near his pillow in his bed. I didn’t even tell him about what I had seen as I thought somehow it was a trick. There was no way it could’ve been though and he never mentioned it again.

This reminded me of another freaky occurence with water.. A couple of years back, for a few days in a row I kept finding a huge wet patch in my (then toddler) son's bed. At first I thought that he must have had an accident in bed but it didn't make any sense - the patch was way down at the other end of the bed, where his body couldn't reach (way below his feet). His PJs and pants were completely dry, no smell.
A heavy duvet was on top too and it was undisturbed (just as I'd left it in the night, after tucking son in).
We also have a cat, but he never goes to sleep in my son's bedroom, just the master one and he sleeps on top of the blankets, not under. The patch didn't smell either, whereas cat urine has a really strong scent.
I was so confused the first time, then it happened again and again (3-4 times total and ALWAYS the same - far end of the bed, undisturbed duvet, son's clothing all dry). I couldn't explain it, neither could my DP.

LouisTherouxsshoe · 21/11/2022 22:29

Years ago when I lived with my then partner we lived in his house where both his parents had died. The place was a bit creepy, needed a lot of modernisation and hadn’t changed much since his parents were alive.

His mother was apparently a bit ‘woo’ and believed that there were ‘signs’ that happened usually before an accident or misfortune. For us things would usually go missing. Often a single shoe, then it would turn up again exactly where you were looking. Milk bottles would be found smashed on the doorstep.

One day I lost my necklace, it was found in the bottom of the toilet. Really weird things would happen. The strangest though was one day I went to put clothes away in a drawer and the whole contents of the drawer were wringing wet. Not urine. Water, enough to wring out but everything in the drawers above and below were bone dry.

I was never happier than when we moved out. Very strange vibe in that house

bluebellstar · 21/11/2022 22:47

When I visited Hampton court palace on one occasion(I've been 3 times as I love it ) I heard the "scream" in the haunted gallery that's spoken of, related to Katherine Howard, very clearly by my left side, at the end of the gallery. It really upset me and I just wanted to leave. Nobody else seemed to hear it but I definitely did.

thekaratekid · 22/11/2022 13:19

I've posted this before on here:

When I was at school we went on a school trip to Germany. One of the afternoons was spent visiting the site of a concentration camp. The whole class had split off into groups and pairs and we were walking round in silence. Everyone was reading the various information exhibits and being very respectful.

Me and my friend were walking around what had been the pathology block. We noticed a set of steps leading down to a basement entrance below the building. We walked up to the door and noticed it was slightly adjar. Thinking this led to more museum, we opened the door and walked in. It was a dark large basement area, but with what looked like dim lights set on the far wall. Thinking that was where more museum exhibits were displayed, we took about 3 hesistant steps into the basement (it was dark and we felt we perhaps shouldn't be there). We both then heard the most horrible scream from the far side of the basement. It sounded slightly muffled and wasn't "full volume". We both stopped and looked at each other, turned and ran immediately up the stairs and back outside. We were completely shaken and both confirmed we had heard the scream.

I have no idea what we heard, but we both heard it. My only slightly grasping explanation is that possibly there could have been some kids messing about nearby, but it seemed unlikely given the sombre nature of the trip.

I have subsequently done some self research and have found a blog post by a travel writer whereby they also experienced something unexplained (shadow figure) in the same basement.

JestersTear · 23/11/2022 01:38

Just remembered something else (I do have more but they don't seem to be linked in any way)

DH and I were on a tour of an old building in our town, rarely open to the public. The building has been several things during its lifetime and is now listed.
So, we'd been taken with a group of about 10 other people around this building and were standing together in a nondescript room that they'd had refurbished recently. There was nothing of historical interest in there at all, but the guide was telling us that it was somewhere that they were planning to use for an art gallery.
While he was saying this, I felt really dizzy and actually had to lean on DH a bit. He, of course, looked at me and whispered was I ok. I replied that I was feeling really dizzy but the group was being led off to another room, I thought I'd wait and see if it went off. It did - as soon as I left the room!
Not really thinking anything about it at the time, I just whispered how much better I was now feeling to DH. Just after I'd said it, the guide said 'Oh, and I'm glad you're all ok, some people have detected a presence in that room and they often feel faint.....'

CarrieMoonbeams · 23/11/2022 02:49

I've posted about this before, it's not creepy but it really puzzles me.

We used to have a fabulous dog called Morse. When he was a puppy, i took him 20 miles away to my home city on the train. We live in a small village now so I wanted him to get used to busy environments too.

We were walking along calmly, no issues, he was a good boy. Suddenly I was aware that his body language had changed, he was incredibly tense and focused on something/someone in the distance. I looked at where he was looking and couldn't initially see anything out of the ordinary. Then, through a gap in the crowd, a good distance away, I saw my dad, and that's who Morse was staring at.

I was NC with my dad as he was an abusive bastard, so he certainly didn't know I was going to be there, and obviously Morse had never met him either. My dad was shortsighted but never wore his glasses, so there's absolutely no way he'd been looking at me because he couldn't have seen me from that distance - he was looking in a shop window anyway.

I can only think that Morse somehow sensed my dad's horrible temperament.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 23/11/2022 18:12

@CarrieMoonbeams depending on how far away your dad's smell would have been familiar to him as you share the same genes.

Not really unexplained but me and a friend once called each others numbers at the exact same time (back in the day when landlines were a thing), there was no dial tone at all I finished typing her number and could just hear her breathing, it was very strange

I've had that happen to me too. Always wondered how that happened.
