To care more that Matt Hancock cheated on his wife than disregarded his own Covid guidance

I don't watch I'm a Celebrity, but I have read this BBC article: Matt Hancock asks for forgiveness
www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-63604403

When he said he "fell in love", did any of his fellow contestants point out that he had a wife and kids, who were probably more traumatised by his humiliation than he was, because they lost a husband and father? I wonder if they are now watching the show with forgiveness in mind?

They'd have to grill seann walsh too. And who knows who else cheated.

Wheatandchaff · 12/11/2022 07:42

Everyone going nuts about Hancock. But weird how no one is talking about the dirty pasts of the other celebrities. Lots of people on here was saying that Boy George should be forgiven for keeping a young man captive, but happy to hang Hancock out to dry over his affair. No talk about Moyles and his awful tax evasion? The drunk driving from Sue Cleaver? Where’s your anger about that? No your pissy about Hancock because he had an affair.

Id rather someone cheat on his wife than all of the above. Hancock is a prick and has behaved terribly, but it makes no sense to pick on him whilst ignoring all the other tossers in there. Ridiculous to give money and a platform to all this lot. Yet you’re watching.

mpeople · 12/11/2022 07:43

I Care more about the lack of PPE and putting vivid positive people into care homes…

The bloke is just an arse.

And Sean Walsh… just so slimy!

mpeople · 12/11/2022 07:43

Covid not vivid!

caroleanboneparte · 12/11/2022 07:44

I feel the same. I think the covid rules at that time were daft. They were already working together so I think they would have infected each other anyway.

So I don't care about the contact/ rule breaking.

But I do care that he's abandoned 3 young dcs, one of whom is adopted, to run off with a new relationship.

What do his dcs think? Do they even see him/ want to see him? How have their lives been affected by this?

His new woman also has 3 dcs.

Christmas logistics is going to be a nightmare!

Is he now playing happy families/ step dad to her dcs?

6 kids lives turned upside down. Fir what just so they could shag each other endlessly??

AppleKatie · 12/11/2022 07:47

Yes ‘I fell in love’ is not a grown up response to disrupting so many childrens lives. It’s like he said ‘I can control myself and I shouldn’t have to because I’m special’. If I knew him in RL I’d be raging at the self entitled prick.

AppleKatie · 12/11/2022 07:47

*can’t

YellowTreeHouse · 12/11/2022 07:48

I don’t care what he did. He’s a grown adult capable of making his own choices.

Ekátn · 12/11/2022 07:49

I really dislike cheaters. I dislike Hancock. But how is the cheating worse than Boy George’s past?

No one in there seems to be asking him to explain himself?

I give a massive shit about him not paying attention to his own rules. I barely spent any time with my mother in 2020 and early 2021. Didn’t spend Christmas 2020 with her. She died in December 2021 at only 66. So yes, it really bothers me. I feel for his wife and kids. But also there was no need for it to be splashed all over the papers and news. Whoever had that footage, could have got him to resign instead. But, the whole PPE fuck up and the decision to put people back in care homes when positive, imo, is far worse than cheating.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 12/11/2022 07:51

If I was making a massive hash of a pandemic and everything was going to shit and it was all my fault.....I would probably have an affair with someone at the office as well.

therebemaggots · 12/11/2022 08:34

Whoever had that footage

Dominic Cummings, surely? He was out for revenge.

I don't care more that he cheated on his wife because I had two relatives who died alone because we apparently weren't allowed to see them. My gran wasn't allowed visitors for a year and then died before I got to see her again.

You said you didn't watch it but last night when he was questioned about meeting people when he shouldn't have done, he said those rules were guidance not law so he was breaking guidance. He's a fucking, self centrered asshole

hamstersarse · 12/11/2022 08:41

He’s just a walking talking mid life crisis

I don’t really care what he does, none of us are perfect, but his text book mid life crisis played out in front of our eyes, the cringe is too much for me

Me too. I don’t know him and it’s his life. I’m not watching it but have heard a few clips on the radio. He’s getting loads of airtime and creating talk for the show. So I guess ITV is happy.

TrentCrimm · 12/11/2022 08:46

It's the glib 'I fell in love' that irks me. I'm sure he thinks it makes him sound human and relatable.

Well I'm sure that the family of that 13 year old boy who died alone in hospital felt deep LOVE for that child.

People buried their LOVED ones over Zoom calls.

And when the many people that turned up weekly to wave at their confused, distressed elderly parents and grandparents through care home windows, they did that because of LOVE.

All because of rules that he was part of putting in place. Rules that people couldn't have broken if they'd even tried.

Fireflygal · 12/11/2022 08:53

As someone who worked through Covid we kept away from work colleagues where possible for a good reasons and we didn't party or snog colleagues. It definitely helped to reduce sickness.

Had everyone who attended those parties been infected at the same time what would be the impact on decisions? Boris ended up in hospital probably because he was so careless with infection control. This put a strain on the health service which could have been avoided.

My company needed to keep going and we didn't want to risk widespread sickness especially for the critical staff nor did we want to add to the issues within the NHS. Just being sensible and not selfish.

hamstersarse · 12/11/2022 08:56

The thing about the rules though…..people were literally screaming at The Tories to implement these rules (some people still are!). They were calling them murderers for ‘not locking down soon enough’ and it went on for over a year!

It seems so strange that people are cross about the rules they were demanding from those in power. I don’t think Boris ever wanted to lock down, but imagine the uproar if he hadn’t. And now….people are cross about the rules.

Hurts my head

This.

my darling mum died in a hospice and we were only allowed to spend an hour a day with her in her last week of life. wearing masks and other PPE, we couldn’t touch her or hold her hand and had to sit away from the bed.

everyday I think about that and how we were desperate to be with her (we knew she was dying of cancer) we lived and slept in our cars in the hospice car park so we could be there quickly when we got the call when they thought she was “about to go”.

it is the cruellest of cruel things to do to families. We were desperate to be with her but we were following the rules of the land.

i will live with the feeling of letting down my darling mum and not being there to tell her we loved her in the last hours and days of her life - because we did and do still love her. It keeps me awake at night and haunts my dreams.

Yet Hancock wanted his woman and got her, because he fell in love - oh that’s ok then cos none of us weeping for our dead relatives understand love! hey!

luxxlisbon · 12/11/2022 09:06

To care more that Matt Hancock cheated on his wife than disregarded his own Covid guidance

You are being unreasonable, what someone does in their political life as a politician is a lot more important than what they do in their private life. Cheating is not illegal.
The reality is people cheat all the time, I’m not saying it’s not shitty but you actually have no idea what’s going on in his family life. His children didn’t lose a father because the parents split up.

Its depressing that people put something like this, which is actually just none of their business, above political failings.

KissTheHostGoodbye · 12/11/2022 09:07

I dont give one crap about his love life. Fellow jungle mates I'm sure have done worse. I do care about people dying alone, limited numbers at funerals and lack of PPE. He should not be in there and it's a bad decision by ITV just for viewing figures.

epythymy · 12/11/2022 09:08

Well kinda. His cheating affected a handful of people at the most. His covid guidelines affected millions and resulted in people dying alone, birthing alone, and the rest of this whole sorry mess that's still ongoing.

He was questioned as well.

What stood out for me was the contest between the 2. SW squirmed and didn't know 'what version' to give. MH held his hands up and answered the questions, very unTory like.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 12/11/2022 09:11

I actually don’t care that he had an affair. Obviously it’s awful for his family and a difficult situation for all involved.

I think the bigger issue was him breaking rules that his government were enforcing. As a politician I don’t so much care about affair but I do care if he doesn’t stick to the things he’s saying needs to be put in place for public safety.

CornishGem1975 · 12/11/2022 09:13

I'm more bothered that Ant McPartlin still has all his plum jobs.
