How do you wear a strappy dress  without exposing your bra?

I'm quite top-heavy, so I definitely need support, and strapless is far too uncomfortable for me. How are you all dealing with this situation? If you don't wear a bra, how do you ensure you're not over-revealing yourself? Do you wear a bra with no straps? Do you wear pasties? Any suggestions?

Bra with clear silicone straps
or a pretty bra with detailed straps because if they’re in view might as well be nice

pippinsleftleg · 11/11/2022 18:10

I let the straps show - works well if they’re a nice colour and frilly.

user1487194234 · 11/11/2022 18:10

I wear a pretty bra on the basis that if it is on view it should look good

Yarrawonga · 11/11/2022 18:11

AIBU?

I don’t need the support, so I don’t wear a bra with a strappy dress.

minipie · 11/11/2022 18:11

I don’t buy dresses unless the straps are wide enough to cover my bra straps, or it’s a shape where I can get away without a bra.

Can’t get used to the bra straps on show look personally.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 11/11/2022 18:12

Not clear straps! They look awful.

I think you either have to put up with the discomfort of a strapless, wear those stick-on cup things, don't wear a bra at all or don't wear a strappy dress. I think visible bra straps only work as a deliberate style choice, like Katie Holmes in her cardie. Or if you're wearing a snazzy sports bra under a loose vest, that sort of thing.

Dacadactyl · 11/11/2022 18:13

I am a 30F bust and I would wear a wonderbra.

If I couldn't wear a strapless bra I wouldn't wear a strapless dress tbh.

Fairislefandango · 11/11/2022 18:14

It's not possible, which is why I don't ever wear strappy dresses! Strapless bras and those weird stick-on things are about as much use as a chocolate teapot imo, if you are well-endowed in the boob department.

ping78 · 11/11/2022 18:15

Wonderbra strapless I'm an F and it supports well. Silicon straps just remind me of 16 year olds in the noughties (yep, me!)

Cw112 · 11/11/2022 18:15

Also top heavy. I find the wonderbra strapless bra the most supportive so I would wear it although it's also not the most comfortable at times because it's super structured. So I'd wear to something that will last a few hours but probably not for a whole day event. Otherwise I'd try to match the straps of the bra to the colour of the dress so they tie in or tape can also be a good alternative if it's applied well.

Do not wear clear silicone straps bras... they look awful whenever I've seen them and the one time I tried it I ripped it off afterwards.

Get a decent strapless bra. Or pretty bra with detailed, lacey etc straps.

Darbs76 · 11/11/2022 18:16

I can’t wear a strapless dress or top a I’ve never found anything that gives enough support, but then I’ve not made a massive effort to find something as I think I’m too top heavy for the style and it won’t look great on me

Freya Deco is a great strapless bra but can be painful if you're big in the bust area.

Ericaequites · 11/11/2022 18:18

It can be very painful to remove the silicone bra. I learned this at the School of Hard Knocks.

I've been 28FF/now more 30G and have gone through loads of options of backless/low back etc bras - even looked at those ones which just stick on at front hell no!

There are little to no options for backless/super slinky low backed etc bras/dresses unless you want to pay serious money and get a corset/basque etc or some swanky Rigby and Peller bra. Gravity just defeats our boobs!

Ever since I was 7.5 stone and under and had boobs (C cup minimum, there was no Boob or Bust so was probably bigger) and a narrow back I've hated strapless bras but not ever envied my friends who used chicken fillets...

TropicalTenticle · 11/11/2022 18:23

Omg please don't wear silicone straps 😅

raffegiraffe · 11/11/2022 18:23

I wear a strapless bra but with special straps from eBay. I have a pair of silver chain ones and some diamante ones and I think they look ok and much better than clear straps

girlmom21 · 11/11/2022 18:25

Silicone straps are incredibly noughties. Don't do that.

Invest in a good strapless bra.

TeaAndJaffacakes · 11/11/2022 18:28

Sew your bra to the dress (as long as the dress straps are wide enough to cover the bra straps) - you only need a few stitches. You can cut them out again afterwards. A pain for everyday wear but worth it for a special occasion or night out dress.

Phrenologistsfinger · 11/11/2022 18:30

Let my straps show! Either pretty ones in sympathetic colour or non-attention grabbing black ones in darker dress. Not small of bust either. As long as tasteful, why do I need to hide the fact that I wear a bra?

RandomUsernameHere · 11/11/2022 18:31

Strapless bra, I find them really comfortable though which seems to go against the grain!

this sounds like a great idea heads off to Ebay

Phrenologistsfinger · 11/11/2022 18:31

(Too big of bust for strapless)

AuntyMabelandPippin · 11/11/2022 18:32

Wonderbra. It works perfectly.

pairofrollerskates · 11/11/2022 18:39

double sided fashion tape suck onto bra straps and strap of dress. Try to make sure bra straps are same colour as dress straps
