How do you wear a strappy dress  without exposing your bra?

I'm quite top-heavy, so I definitely need support, and strapless is far too uncomfortable for me. How are you all dealing with this situation? If you don't wear a bra, how do you ensure you're not over-revealing yourself? Do you wear a bra with no straps? Do you wear pasties? Any suggestions?

I don’t wear strappy tops or dresses. They look awful on women of a certain age, those who are a bit hefty, those with tattoos and with bras. They should be the preserve of lovely young things with smooth skin and no fat rolls or batwings.

I realise people may disagree but I never understand why women who would look perfectly attractive and well groomed if a bit more covered up choose to look hideous.

boob tape !!!!

Please don't body shame women just because you've been tricked into thinking beauty needs to look one way... if you want that for yourself then fine, but don't put that on to others. Everyone is different and for example my mum I think looks better in strappy tops than I do.

Ebay sell all different types of stick on bras, sounds awful I know, but they really work, and I have large boobs. They stick on your boobs but have a string thingy that you can tighten to give your boobs a bit of an upward boost. I hate bra straps showing.

I had to learn this lesson this year… here is my report.

This isn’t the same brand I used but I used something similar. The key is the shape (tear drop) and to use nipple covers. Silicone booby covers

They stayed put and the shape allowed for a little more coverage and lift. Weather was hot, humid, damp because of rain, the covers stayed securely in place for over 6 hours.

My backup was going to be a layer of boob tape to give lift and structure but I didn’t need it. read reviews and watch YouTube for help.

Here is where I went wrong, The boobies I used had small clips to help with cleavage. That didn’t work great with the cut of the dress. I used clear double side tape to make sure the dress stayed put. That didn’t hold up as well to the heat and humidity so it started to come undone a bit. Luckily I was wearing a flower lei so the tape just kept the flowers from moving which provided the needed modesty. Next time I wear the dress I won’t use the cleavage clip.

Good luck!

My SIL has taught me about the wonders of boob tape. I have DDs and the perky pear brand tape is a miracle. I wore a halter neck, backless deep V jumpsuit, and I looked like before I breastfed three babies!

Strapless bra. Otherwise I wouldn't wear strappy dresses. Give the Wonderbra Ultimate a try.

Not ‘shaming’ anyone. What a ridiculous phrase. I’m saying I believe women look awful in some clothes. Just as men look dreadful in some clothes too (vests being one such item).

TheBirdintheCave · 11/11/2022 22:49

I just wear a bra 🤔 I've never thought about making sure that the straps are completely hidden.

you all need to try this .. I hardly ever wear bras now. Even with 2 backless dresses. Really is worth the money and really comfy.

It's not possible, which is why I don't ever wear strappy dresses! Strapless bras and those weird stick-on things are about as much use as a chocolate teapot imo, if you are well-endowed in the boob department.

Also if you are well endowed as am I then narrow clear straps are going to dig into your shoulders.

LBF2020 · 12/11/2022 09:13

The only answer for me was a breast reduction. Sorry, not much help!

I used to have the wonderbra ultimate strapless bra, which managed to hold everything up as it's deep cut. However it is padded so made my huge boobs look even bigger :-(

Same here. They also give me odd acne-type spots under the straps. I’m not usually prone to body acne and only get them with those plastic straps.

I must be doing those wonderbra strapless bras wrong as they are a curious combination of uncomfortably tight and also unsupportive (yes they are the correct size, they just don’t fit my shape well at all).

Consequently I don’t wear anything with spaghetti straps.

LynneBenfield · 12/11/2022 09:49

And yes to the padded @LBF2020. So annoying! I don’t need more volume in that department, thanks

wizzywig · 12/11/2022 09:51

Do you have a pic of the outfit you're thinking off?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/11/2022 09:52

Use a safety pin to attach the top of the bra shoulder strap to the seam of the dress shoulder strap on the inside so they're attached to each other. You can get tiny safety pins that do the job well.

AlfiesGirl · 12/11/2022 09:54

I definitely need the support of a bra so only buy dresses with covered shoulders / wider straps :-(

99victoria · 12/11/2022 10:13

Get a couple of black crop tops from a sports shop and put them over your bra. Transforms the look of thin strappy clothes 😊

Need to try these! They’re mostly sold out on that site.

there’s a world away from larger boobs eg big band size or C or D cup and like me 28FF/30G which require scaffolding sometimes…

I don’t buy dresses unless the straps are wide enough to cover my bra straps, or it’s a shape where I can get away without a bra.

Can’t get used to the bra straps on show look personally.

Same with me me hence , I asking for suggestions

Also top heavy. I find the wonderbra strapless bra the most supportive so I would wear it although it's also not the most comfortable at times because it's super structured. So I'd wear to something that will last a few hours but probably not for a whole day event. Otherwise I'd try to match the straps of the bra to the colour of the dress so they tie in or tape can also be a good alternative if it's applied well.

Thank you , I bought and tried wonderbra strapless from John Lewis not the most comfy but I can put up for few hrs not for a whole day

Similar coloured bra, don't actually care that it shows
