AIBU To Be Horrified By Thought Of Trump As POTUS Again

I am terrified and shocked that Donald Trump (probably) intends to to run for president again in 2024.
He says he's about to make a statement on the subject in a few days' time.

Considering all he's done, I think he has a cheek even to consider being the Republican nominee. He had no idea how to run America and yet - he has a huge fan base, who don't seem to care about the insurrection he incited on January 6th 2021.

AIBU to wish he'd be indicted, convicted and imprisoned?

YANBU. I am not sure that he will have as many fans as he did because he has shown that he can't accept when he loses. He made himself look totally unhinged.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/11/2022 09:08

He's only running so he can quash the investigations into his illegal dealings.

The mid term red wave did not happen. His nominated candidates did badly.

Not sure how he'll cope on the campaign trail. He can barely string a coherant sentence together.

If the GOP nominate Desantis then hopefully it'll split the right wing vote.

The Democrats need to get their arses in gear, frankly.

AiryFairy1 · 16/11/2022 09:10

I can’t really believe it. All these old guys … surely there’s some worthy younger options? #bringbackObama

It makes a mockery of democracy when it’s candidates with the biggest bank accounts and a knack for rallying the masses get the vote.

(I do realise this is not US specific)

SirMingeALot · 16/11/2022 09:10

He's not going to get the Republican nomination. Last week's results have seen to that.

ChiefPearlClutcher · 16/11/2022 09:11

He will never be potus again
This is a gift to the DeSantis campaign.

Thepeopleversuswork · 16/11/2022 09:11

Agree although I think he’s a spent force in the Republican Party and they will shift their allegiance onto another (nearly as unpleasant) option such as Ron de Santis.

KimberleyClark · 16/11/2022 09:12

Who the hell thinks YABU? Presumably the same people who’d like to see Boris back as PM?

Endlesssummer2022 · 16/11/2022 09:41

Apparently he’s only doing this to keep out of jail and keep the law suits at bay (and possible steak campaign funding money). He won’t be picked.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/11/2022 09:42

Hopefully, he won’t be nominated, will stand as an independent and split the fruitcake vote.

Yeah, that's me on both counts. Not because either were any good, just the people that followed them as leader have been even worse.

To the person who said #bringbackObama, Obama's had his two terms so cannot run again. American presidents are only allowed to have two terms in office because that's what George Washington did, except F.D.R. who fancied four - but I think they made it a strict rule after he died.

Michelle Obama could run of course but as current President Joe Biden would normally be unopposed for the Democrat nomination. Anyway, Trump is currently 100% successful against candidates who are the wives of former presidents.

I don't get quite why you care who the leader of another country is... Shocked and horrified is a huge overreaction

SirMingeALot · 16/11/2022 10:15

Probably because the leaders of other countries can have a significant impact on us. Especially when that country is the most powerful one in the world.

Because much as many would like to believe it now does, the UK doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The leadership of the US has huge implications for the rest of the world.

Not really, it affects the Uk and the whole world who the president of the US is!

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2022 10:48

yanbu it’s an interesting race but I hope he doesn’t win.

Maybe DeSantis will though

the80sweregreat · 16/11/2022 10:56

I don't think he'll win again.
His just meddling.

SheWoreYellow · 16/11/2022 10:58

I think he’ll just split the Republicans. And there’s no way he’ll get in again.

Just as a start, climate change?

CaveMum · 16/11/2022 11:03

There's a very good BBC article outlining the challenges Trump has this time round: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-63638929

Listening to Americast last week, they had a Republican (former Trump supporter) on saying that the best thing the GOP could do is to have DeSantis as their candidate against Biden - he will be the picture of youth and vitality, sharply contrasting the (by then) almost-82 year old Biden.

Boomboom22 · 16/11/2022 11:07

Yes he's mad, Biden is doddery, here Boris lies, Rishi has gone austerity mad and Keir is uninspiring. The opposition need to step up here, and the Democrats in USA also.

TodayInahurry · 16/11/2022 11:08

Trump is a total idiot, but Biden is awful, in a different way. US politics need a shake up and younger different candidates

OccultOctopus · 16/11/2022 11:10

I don't think he'll get the nomination tbh.

For all the reasons given here and because Murdoch has turned against him, taking his Fox News channel with him.

BlackForestCake · 16/11/2022 11:11

If the Democrats had anything to offer ordinary people, they would walk every election. They don’t which is why they lose to crooked liars like Trump.

Never heard the saying "When America sneezes, the world catches a cold."?
