That money will go towards vital research that will improve the lives of women living with cancer. Deborah James pushed the conversation around cancer and broke down taboos and will of helped countless people get the support they needed.

I think she was amazing Flowers

ProFannyTea · 08/11/2022 09:59

Well unless you're also going to remind us how much Made Goody raised or Tom Parker then yes, you are being unreasonable if you're just cherry picking who to remind us of.

Runningwithoutstopping · 08/11/2022 09:59

Without Deborah James documenting her treatment and death as she did do you think that amount of money would of been raised?Where else would that money of come from? If you have any other fundraising ideas I'm sure the cancer charities would love to hear from you.
if any one thinks that Deborah James wouldn't of wanted to carry on being a wife, mother, friend, teacher. rather than having to wear the label 'cancer patient' they are deluded

Jade obviously..

ProFannyTea · 08/11/2022 10:01

Jade Goody was no different. Why aren't you reminding us of her? She had children too she would rather have lived for.

Within the first 10 posts on any mumsnet thread you can guarantee some contrary negative arsehole will pop up.

CourtneeLuv · 08/11/2022 10:01

What's the point of reminding people of that?

Whats the aibu?

girlmom21 · 08/11/2022 10:02

Yeah it's fantastic but I don't really understand the point of the thread either.

Can we not be reminded of Jade Goody then? Or do you need a dame hood for that?

Runningwithoutstopping · 08/11/2022 10:04

I know that other celebs have also spoken candidly about their illnesses and I think that their contribution has also been priceless I singled out Deborah James because she came in for a particular bashing on here

I don't think it a TAAT but it may be drawing attention to that other thread where some people are saying cancer sufferers shouldn't be so 'in your face' and a lot of it is attention seeking and triggering. And people like Olivia Newton john just got on with it so why can't they all.

girlmom21 · 08/11/2022 10:21

Ah I hadn't see that thread @mileaminute but judging by OP's latest response you're right

Why not make your comments on that thread to the people bashing her?

berksandbeyond · 08/11/2022 10:25

She got bashed on here? I didn't see that

Runningwithoutstopping · 08/11/2022 10:26

I have made comments on there and also reported to mnhq

Lots of people have done wonderful things. We do not need reminding of certain ones imo, then we just get into the "what about" space. Everyone knew at the time, everyone thought it was great. But we don't need reminders.

wibblewobbleboard · 08/11/2022 10:42

Why do we need reminded? Genuinely don't get it.

BananaFluff · 08/11/2022 10:44

That's loads isn't it. She deserved her damehood.

KatherineJaneway · 08/11/2022 11:03

And? What's your AIBU?

I have no idea who she is.

I agree OP.

OP is referring to this delightful thread

LBFseBrom · 08/11/2022 15:00

Will she 'of' indeed? I've never heard of her but if she has done something that improves the lives of others, good on her.

reigatecastle · 08/11/2022 15:03

There is nothing wrong with that thread, people are allowed their opinions and they've voiced them very sensitively and eloquently, for the most part.

I agree that Deborah James did a great deal of good, assuming the £7 million is spent wisely and doesn't get swallowed up on admin.

There was also a young man who raised about £2 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

I agree with other posters. Yes she did a great job but so did others. Are we going to start threads on them too? Really don't see the point of the thread at all
