FusilliPasta · 27/10/2022 20:57

UTI.

side effects of the antibiotics are long and terrifying.

trying to decide whether it’s worth it!

p.s I have health anxiety.

I delayed getting one treated.
Made me quite ill for a while.

Ineverwannabelikeyou · 27/10/2022 20:58

They always are! It's definitely worth it, you don't want to end up with a worse infection!

Ineverwannabelikeyou · 27/10/2022 20:59

Take some probiotics if you want to lessen the chances of stomach related side effects

Fleur405 · 27/10/2022 20:59

An untreated uti can cause serious kidney problems. You should take the antibiotics.

CarPoor · 27/10/2022 21:00

What sort of side ffects are worrying you?

The site effects of an untreated UTI are probably worse. You don't get prescribed antibiotics for fun

ChocHotolate · 27/10/2022 21:00

Have you researched the effects of an untreated UTI?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/10/2022 21:00

Untreated UTI's can lead to kidney infections and sepsis. Both of those are worse than the side effects of antibiotics.

Untreated UTIs can potentially lead to kidney infections which are more dangerous then the potential side affects of antibiotics if you have no known allergies to any ingredients.

PieonaBarm · 27/10/2022 21:02

UTI Infection will go up into your kidneys. I've been there. Take the meds.

And years later my kidneys failed (likely cause Covid, not infection) but don't risk damaging them. Dialysis is not fun.

Untitledsquatboulder · 27/10/2022 21:02

Cool. Then, if you're lucky, you can continue to have have health anxiety plus real life kidney damage.

LIZS · 27/10/2022 21:02

Side effects of an untreated uti are worse, such as kidney infection, damage or sepsis. Take the abs.

FusilliPasta · 27/10/2022 21:04

Well I have macrobid in the cupboard from before, but they’re out of date and make me feel SO ill. Dizziness, nausea.

and I have some trimethoprim from an online pharmacy which I’ve never taken before so I’m nervous to take them in case I’m potentially allergic.

im worried about all of the side effects, from the headache and nausea (I have had a stomach ache for two days too, I think I have a touch of gastro) to the severe ones like high potassium, heart problems, skin rashes etc.

get the antibiotics down you. I had a UTI, it developed into a kidney infection and then sepsis. I’ve been very ill. Get yourself to the GP.

Pixiedust1234 · 27/10/2022 21:07

Contact your GP so they can offer you different ones. I've had to do this three times in my life and they did it with no "arguments "

LIZS · 27/10/2022 21:07

Out of date ones or internet bought may not be effective. If yo7 have anxiety why are these still in the house? Call 111 and ask if there is a late pharmacy or ooh gp you can see.

Ineverwannabelikeyou · 27/10/2022 21:07

The side effects will be nothing in comparison to a kidney infection.

I get it, I've been there, sometimes I still am there. I'm still scared of being potentially allergic to things, being sick etc. However, the only way I get over things is dealing with it head on. Take the drugs. You'll soon know if you're allergic and you can absolutely deal with that. Worst case scenario is you end up in a&e.

Worst case scenario if you don't get them is getting sepsis. You don't want to get sepsis.

Scarlettpixie · 27/10/2022 21:07

Well I wouldn’t be taking the old out of date ones.

Have the others been prescribed for your current uti? If so, you need to take them.

The last time I had antibiotics I was nauseous for 24 hours but I persevered as I needed them and the nausea went away.

LIZS · 27/10/2022 21:08

And it could be the infection making you nauseous and upset stonach rather than abs.

jaqpaoem · 27/10/2022 21:09

Don't take random out of date medication, get them properly prescribed for the infection you have.

Dishwashersaurous · 27/10/2022 21:10

Have you actually be prescribed antibiotics by an actual real.doctor? If so, take them. If not, then obviously dont

Ineverwannabelikeyou · 27/10/2022 21:10

And the anxiety I imagine!

Are the online ones prescribed? If so, take them. If not, see your GP tomorrow.

I’m a long term frequent sufferer of UTI ‘s I’ve had every antibiotic going and personally I’d say trimethoprim was the least troublesome for side effects , I don’t think I noticed any. Drink lots of water - as you should anyway and nibble ginger biscuits and plain crisps to stave off any nausea ( imagined or otherwise) and you’ll be grand ! I do sympathise as I have HA too and research everything and wind myself up but I wouldn’t think twice about taking these!

PeloFondo · 27/10/2022 21:11

I'm on trimethoprim at the minute
No side effects

Aretheyhavingalaugh · 27/10/2022 21:12

Go to the GP and get some in date antibiotics. I had a UTI which turned into a very serious kidney infection and ended up in hospital. Phone them in the morning as an emergency
