UTI.

side effects of the antibiotics are long and terrifying.

trying to decide whether it’s worth it!

p.s I have health anxiety.

The one I got online for such occasions is also out of date (completely legal and appropriate, been possible for years now), so thank you vipers for your nasty comments but I do not feel comfortable taking out of date medication, particularly one I’ve never taken before and could have a nasty reaction to.

i am currently in the bath trying to ease the pain.

i can assure you this is not my first rodeo and I know how bloody awful they are. I have never not had antibiotics on day 1, all the nhs advice says to wait 48 hours before taking antibiotics so I thought I was being sensible. Ultimately I should have taken the midnight consult because lord knows I won’t be sleeping.

In fairness to the vipers you didn’t make it very clear from your initial posts that you were talking about out of date online antibiotics that you haven’t been prescribed for your current UTI.

FusilliPasta · 28/10/2022 07:52

@SnarkyBag i didn’t realise they were out of date initially, and I’m surprised by how many people are horrified by the fact they were bought online for this purpose given it’s one of the latest things the nhs are doing to try to ease the strain on GPs.

the joke is I won’t even get my urine tested, because I have a telephone appointment so they’ll just give me the usual macrobid that makes me as sick as a dog and will only test the urine if the antibiotics don’t work.

anyway, the majority of responses were incredibly kind, supportive and absolutely lovely, which is the reason why I love MN Grin

I think if the OP had said initially that she had a UTI and no in date antibiotics she would have got a different response. Throw out out of date antibiotics. In Scotland you can get trimethoprim from a pharmacy and most people with UTIs get citrate sachets or antibiotics there. Presumably that's not an option where the OP is.

So, tell the GP that they affect you badly, and can they give you a different one.

Mrsjayy · 28/10/2022 09:03

What do you want people to say ? take them don't take them it's up to you why do 6ou keep getting them if you know you are not going to take the? Antibiotics might make you feel "yuck" for a few days but surely it's going g to benefit in the long run.

tell the GP how macrobid makes you feel. They’ll prescribe a different one.

Mrsjayy · 28/10/2022 09:06

If they make you so ill tell your Dr they will give you something else. Hand in a sample to your surgery in future,

Aretheyhavingalaugh · 28/10/2022 20:06

How did you get on OP?

FusilliPasta · 29/10/2022 07:36

@Aretheyhavingalaugh prescribed macrobid 😂 but at least it’s only a 3 day course (previously been 7). Not cured but feeling better already. Thanks for asking Flowers
