To think flight announcements should be banned.

We went away last week. On the outbound flight we had an announcement and round of applause for someone's birthday. On the way home yesterday we had the same for a couple returning from a Las Vegas wedding.

I understand they're special occasions/trips but does the whole flight really need to know about it and clap? I bet half the plane were celebrating something special, can you imagine if everyone asked for a shout out, we'd never have got off the run way!

I fly long haul at least once a month with a major carrier and have never known this happen.

I've never experienced it either. Hopefully it doesn't catch on!

Why would you never got off the runway? If there was a few they would do it mid air.

Yanbu to not like them. Yabu, to think a 30 second-1 min announcement should be banned because you don’t like them.

CraigDavid · 27/10/2022 21:04

I has this on a flight the other day for a couple who were on their way to get married. I thought it was quite sweet!

Kinsters · 27/10/2022 21:04

Never come across this. Wouldn't bother me tbh, they wouldn't delay the flight to do announcements like this.

TheNewSchmoo · 27/10/2022 21:06

How miserable.

You, that is.

Littlessweepy · 27/10/2022 21:06

I remember going to the canaries with Ryanair. There was a constant stream of drivel it was like torture, scratch cards, food promotions, drink promotions, duty free, competitions, charity collections, promoting the airline, all x 100. I had such ringing ears by time I landed and needed silence!

Hobbesmanc · 27/10/2022 21:06

Oh sour puss

There's loads of audio shit on every flight. Screen it out if you want. It'

Travis1 · 27/10/2022 21:07

Jesus fucking Christ people really will moan about anything. YABU

YellowTreeHouse · 27/10/2022 21:07

YABU and miserable.

Endlesssummer392 · 27/10/2022 21:10

I just don't know why anyone would want something like that announcing to a plane full of strangers, I mean who actually cares? Not me that's for sure!

Let's just get through the safety announcements and get on with the flight.

We’ve just flown twice with my 5 then 6 month old. Who would have slept the whole flight but kept being jolted awake by announcement after announcement. Captain speaking, air hostess then wittering about drinks and food, then about duty free, captain again, then air hostess again about some charity crap. Poor baby couldn’t get 20 mins peace. And then people moan about babies crying on the flight. It should be silent after the safety briefing. Oh and people dinging the call button. You’ve been strapped in 30 seconds what can you possibly need?! I’ve been flying nearly 30 years and never once pressed it.

poppym12 · 27/10/2022 21:13

I fly quite often and have only witnessed one event. A couple were in the queue for the loo and when the lady went in, the guy asked someone sitting on the front row to hold his phone and press record on the camera. As she came out of the loo he was down on one knee with a ring. It was very sweet.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/10/2022 21:15

Me and my brother got our parent's anniversary announced when we were kids, 30+ years ago.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/10/2022 21:17

I was on a plane and the pilot told us how high we were flying!
Unbelievable,
What was he thinking?
Surely he shouldn't have been so surprised?
I mean, it's a bloody aeroplane!

I'm obviously not referring to announcements about the actual flight.

Yeh the cabin crew have so much to do already. Even on a long haul flight there's no quiet time. When everyone's boarding the focus should just be on getting everyone safely seated, making the safety announcements and take off. Not giving Bob a round of applause for his 56th birthday.

YANBU. The cheaper the airline, the more announcements IME.

No, I want to hear the captain and safety announcements.

I know a couple who got engaged mid-flight.

They did so on every flight over the next two years and always enjoyed the free half-bottle of champagne the staff presented to them.

I know Ryanair runs on a shoe-string but do they only have one member of staff per flight now?

The irony.
You don't care that for 30 seconds somebody was allowed to feel a bit special, yet feel special enough yourself to start a thread and whinge.
