Don't hug me I'm scared (Channel 4)

I came across this on Channel 4 the other day and I can't help but find it disgusting. It's disguised as a bright happy show for children but is filled with innapropriate and violent content. The programme shows 3 children's puppets in a house together singing songs but it quickly turns bloody and violent. I'm really struggling to see the funny side here, what if this was accidentally shown to a child expecting an innocent show? Aibu to find this disgraceful?

Googled this and it looks much nicer than a gorey puppet show. I'll show an episode to the grandkids when I next see them 😊

Now I know the thread was done just to get a reaction 😂

jetadore · 24/10/2022 21:26

SausageParty is another one that used to stuck on because it’s animated and animated movies are for kids, aren’t they? I view it as a kind of Darwin Award for lazy parents who can’t be bothered to properly check what their kids are watching.

Ds is a young teen and introduced this to us. It felt v 90s channel 4. He finds it hilarious, but I feel like I've seen it all before.

Applesandcarrots · 24/10/2022 21:40

I still ahve that tydydydytydydy in my head sometimes 😂

I didn't see those photos when I googled the show. Shame on you for trying to trick me into watching something so unpleasant.

Shame on ME?! I had no idea what it was so I googled and that was the top of the page. You’re not very good at googling, love.

Applesandcarrots · 25/10/2022 07:53

I think that was shame on me @ChronicOverthinkr 😂

Tbh the knife is ok. It's the spoon that sticks with you. The spoon......

Quartz2208 · 25/10/2022 08:42

Happy tree Friends and Dont Hug me are parodying some of the things that we make children watch. If you watch the whole thing it is actually quite clever satire

And I think yes we are going back to the 90s with this - and perhaps it is needed. Everything is expected nowadays to not be offensive and be suitable we do need something that isnt.

Cheeeeislifenow · 25/10/2022 08:46

Found my 4 year old watching Ted once...whoops!

dwaynejohnson · 25/10/2022 08:47

I don't have a problem with things not being suitable me and my husband watch Gogglebox! But I think this is a cruel show making a mockery out of Sesame Street and similar shows

OP, I can't even tell whether you're for real here! This show has been around online for a decade, my kids watched it when they were older teens. It isn't my thing, but saying it 'shouldn't' be made at all is just ridiculous. Let go of those pearls and use your remote to seek out something else to watch.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 25/10/2022 08:58

You watch Gogglebox!!! Pure filth.

Can't believe you are talking about Don't hug me I'm scared, whilst all the while, you and you're husband are revelling in the squalid Gogglebox.

You need to look closer to home before you blast other people for watching stuff that needs a PIN entering to watch.

There is a difference between mockery and parodying. And this is a parody I think with elements of satire it in.

It is making a point about shows such as Sesame Street and it should be allowed to do so

Satire/Parody is to me are valid forms of comedy/drama that have been around for 100s of years and I think is a useful tool for teenagers because it makes you realise you shouldnt just take everything on face value.

Ah shame on you then @Applesandcarrots 😂 I’m going to have to watch it now to see this spoon thing…. Maybe without the kids because I’m not a moron.

Applesandcarrots · 25/10/2022 10:34

Out on limb @ChronicOverthinkr 🙈

rudebanana · 25/10/2022 10:36

Oh dear dwaynejohnson. Have you been smelling what the rock’s been cooking?

LuckySantangelo35 · 25/10/2022 11:50

@dwaynejohnson

i can’t believe you watch gogglebox

whoah!!!

that is filthy and explicit stuff

I’m amazed anything shocks you anymore after watching that

Hellsmovie · 25/10/2022 12:04

You can tell its half term . Kids get bored and start post like this one. I

slashlover · 25/10/2022 12:23

dwaynejohnson · 24/10/2022 21:18

But does anyone enjoy it? What kind of person sits down with their beans on toast and watches an innocent looking puppet have his hand shredded?

Well the channel has 3.2 million subscribers on youtube and the videos have between 3 and 72 million views so probably a lot of people enjoy it.

I think there are loads of terrible programs but I don't come on here moaning.

Anon778833 · 25/10/2022 12:28

I hadn’t even heard of this before seeing this thread. What utter rubbish it is 🙈

Wait til you come across the bastardised ‘stab by’ versions of Peppa Pig on YouTube that will traumatise your toddler for life 🙈

slashlover · 25/10/2022 12:29

Or people could vet what their kids are watching online. Youtube has videos of actual deaths yet people think it's safe for kids.

Navigatingnewwaters · 25/10/2022 12:31

Why would any parent allow their child up at the time it’s on or allow free range on C4 plus one?
