Don't hug me I'm scared (Channel 4)

I came across this on Channel 4 the other day and I can't help but find it disgusting. It's disguised as a bright happy show for children but is filled with innapropriate and violent content. The programme shows 3 children's puppets in a house together singing songs but it quickly turns bloody and violent. I'm really struggling to see the funny side here, what if this was accidentally shown to a child expecting an innocent show? Aibu to find this disgraceful?

YABU

it’s a show for adults, therefore includes adult content.

grow up and get a grip

WildOats5678 · 24/10/2022 18:00

It’s not marketed at kids. It literally pops up with a warning as you go to play it on All4 that it has adult humour.

No it's not..

MolkosTeenageAngst · 24/10/2022 18:06

YABU. It’s not marketed towards children, it’s on late at night and clearly described as an adult’s show. The fact it’s in the style of a kids show just adds to its surreal nature but it’s not trying to market itself as for actual children. If it’s accidentally shown to a child that’s the fault of the parent/ guardian for not checking the show out w was suitable before showing it, not the fault of the show for existing!

Do you think shows like Family Guy, Rick & Morty or South Park should also be banned because they’re cartoons? These all contain inappropriate and violent content, but so do lots of other adult shows.

Jedsnewstar · 24/10/2022 18:11

Maybe try South Park. It’s about 4 primary age kids navigating the perils of growing up in a small Colorado town.

JustDanceAddict · 24/10/2022 18:13

It’s not for children!
My teens showed me it, it started on YouTube about 10 years ago and they’ve made some for TV.
There are loads of ‘adult’ cartoons around.

Spudina · 24/10/2022 18:18

YABU. There is a warning that it’s not suitable for children. So in your view, no adults program can be in the form of a cartoon? So no Southpark? Or Beevis and Butthead?? That’s a depressing thought.

Are you possessed by the ghost of Mary Whitehouse? Do we need to call an exorcist?

Mary Whitehouse ,that's a blast from the past 🤣🤣

Quartz2208 · 24/10/2022 19:00

It shouldn’t be accidentally shown it is very much not a kids show

ChronicOverthinkr · 24/10/2022 19:07

Disgraceful 😂

dwaynejohnson · 24/10/2022 20:50

I know it's not made for kids but it can easily be mistaken, many parents are going to see three smiley puppet characters and assume it's for children like I did. It's a distressing show for adults let alone a small child.

Quartz2208 · 24/10/2022 20:57

IT was on Channel 4 at 11pm at night and is called a Comedy-horror show!

But yes I watched it with my teenagers and I found it more distressing than they did. Even the Muppets though can be slightly edgy so would never assume with puppets

Sparklesocks · 24/10/2022 21:01

It’s not meant for kids, that’s why it’s on tv post 11pm.
There are lots of TV shows that ‘look’ like they could be for kids with animation/bright colours - Family Guy, South Park etc but are for adults. It’s clearly marked as adult humour on all4 and has only been shown late at night on TV.

Its the responsibility of parents to vet what their children watch.

dwaynejohnson · 24/10/2022 21:06

It's not just who it's aimed at that's the issue. I find it very upsetting that Channel 4 have felt the need to turn a sweet children's show into something horrific. Me and my husband were disgusted.

It’s not a childrens show though! It’s aimed for adults and always has been. It’s not the shows fault you can’t read a description 😂

Not everything is made for you, though. There will be others who enjoy it. You’re completely within your rights to find it distasteful but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist.

FrankTheThunderbird · 24/10/2022 21:13

If you don't like it don't watch it Confused

purpleme12 · 24/10/2022 21:16

Is this post just to get a reaction

dwaynejohnson · 24/10/2022 21:18

But does anyone enjoy it? What kind of person sits down with their beans on toast and watches an innocent looking puppet have his hand shredded?

Applesandcarrots · 24/10/2022 21:18

I can recommend Happy Tree Friends

Googled this and it looks much nicer than a gorey puppet show. I'll show an episode to the grandkids when I next see them 😊

As probably are all the other residents from tunbridge wells.

Who can say. But people watch horror films with blood and guts and all sorts and you could ask the same question. I have no interest in video games where people blow each other up but others do. Life is easier when you accept you aren’t the absolute centre of it, and you aren’t always going to be the target audience for all forms of media.
