To make husband pay the fine out of his own money

My husband is always forgetting to pay parking charges. As a result of this he has got clamped and fined three times this year from forgetting to pay the car park before boarding the train to work. He doesn't buy a weekly parking pass due to working from home odd days but I'm really frustrated now. With a week before pay day, Halloween expenses would I BU to make him pay the fine out of his own personal spending money and leave our joint account alone? Mistakes happen I get that but this is three times in a year.

I’d think he was a CF expecting it to come out of family money in the first place.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 21/10/2022 18:16

I was wondering that? @autumnvibes22 Halloween expenses?

zurala · 21/10/2022 18:18

YANBU

But yabu for "Halloween expenses"

TimeForMeToF1y · 21/10/2022 18:18

Why is this even a question, of course he should pay it

And do tell me about Halloween expenses too

alsonotmyname · 21/10/2022 18:20

I would presume Halloween expenses would be pumpkins, sweets, childrens outfits surely

Noelfieldingsjumpers · 21/10/2022 19:36

Yeah your husband needs to pay for this. It's an expensive time of year anyway without Halloween. I'm also curious about the expenses for Halloween though.

Obki · 21/10/2022 19:46

Of course he should pay out of his own. Is he refusing?

PercyPigInAWig · 21/10/2022 19:54

DH got two in one week once! I think. A third one should probably come out of personal money but in reality here it would just be out of the joint money.

I've just spent quite a bit on Halloween, sweets for the general neighbourhood kids who do trick or treating, plus craft items for the ones who we are close to. We'll give some to the food bank for half term parcels.

Cw112 · 21/10/2022 19:57

I wouldn't ever expect to pay something like that out of joint/ family money. He needs to pay that himself.

Jalepenojello · 21/10/2022 19:59

What are Halloween expenses 😀

but no YANBU

Whistlesandbell · 21/10/2022 20:01

Are Halloween expenses really that difficult to work out?

wb3 · 21/10/2022 20:02

Why is it on MN that sometimes all money is family money but at other times it's... oh wait,I get it.

wb3 · 21/10/2022 20:03

Cue poster saying "If the genders were reversed I'd be saying exactly the same".

Exactly what I was thinking...

Lcb123 · 21/10/2022 20:05

I’m shocked you’ve let him use joint money for prior fines. It’s his fault

Soapboxqueen · 21/10/2022 20:05

We only have family money but if we did have separate accounts, I might be inclined to agree it should come out of dh's money.

Chattycathydoll · 21/10/2022 20:06

do other families use Halloween witchcraft to conjure the sweets?
We have a lot of trick or treaters in our village, it costs extra each year to buy the sweets. Plus fabric for DD’s costume (I make them at home) as obv she grows so needs a new one each year. Halloween disco at school before end of half term. Do other people not pay for these things?

Also husband is annoying CF.

This. So annoying when people on here act like the op is being unreasonable over something silly, they just come across as thick as shit.

Family money is not there to cushion against his expensive stupidity.

If he thinks he only has to pay half of every ticket because OP will fund the other half, he will keep getting penalties.

NoDairyNoProblem · 21/10/2022 20:14

At the end of the day your joint account money was already allocated so he will need to pay it from his own account. I assume it’s that or I assume your DC go without Halloween costumes, treats, decorations, sweets for trick or treaters, school disco tickets etc?

Withnoshoes · 21/10/2022 20:14

He should pay them if he can’t be arsed to pay for parking.

Except that OP has clearly stated that it’s not all
’family’ money because he does have separate spends.

and why are people being so bloody arsey about ‘Halloween expenses’ are you all so hard of thinking that you cannot possibly determine what OP means?
