To make husband pay the fine out of his own money

autumnvibes22 · 21/10/2022 18:00

My husband is always forgetting to pay parking charges. As a result of this he has got clamped and fined three times this year from forgetting to pay the car park before boarding the train to work. He doesn't buy a weekly parking pass due to working from home odd days but I'm really frustrated now. With a week before pay day, Halloween expenses would I BU to make him pay the fine out of his own personal spending money and leave our joint account alone? Mistakes happen I get that but this is three times in a year.

Always pay fines out of personal money.

Really want to know what Halloween expenses are though.

hesbeingabitofadick · 21/10/2022 20:16

At least you know what to buy him for Christmas and his Birthday this year.

<hint - it's a parking pass wrapped in lovely tartan ribbon>

gamerchick · 21/10/2022 20:18

and why are people being so bloody arsey about ‘Halloween expenses’ are you all so hard of thinking that you cannot possibly determine what OP means

Definitely not being arsey. Really want to know. Halloween has never cost me more than a tenner.

lentilly · 21/10/2022 20:18

Shouls never have been a question he should have insisted it came out his own money

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 21/10/2022 20:18

Of course it should come from his personal spending money, 3x is just negligence and lack of care, the rest of the family shouldn't suffer for it.

I'd be so annoyed at the waste of money, regardless of what pot it was taken from. It's impossible for a grown man to repeatedly "forget" to buy a car park ticket as there are hundreds of signs in every station car park. The likelihood is that he is running for the train because he can't be bothered waiting for the next one, and chances his arm. He needs to stop doing that, especially if your finances are tight enough to list Halloween as a notable expense.

TeenDivided · 21/10/2022 20:23

Re Halloween expenses.

Do other people not keep decorations etc from year to year, buy costumes a bit big so they last at least 2 years, pass down to siblings etc?

Pumpkin and trick or treat sweets obviously new each year.

Forfukzsake · 21/10/2022 20:24

Out of his own money if he has it. He should really start paying the parking charges. How many times does he need a fine to remember?

As for the developing Halloween spending discussion, we only spend money on a big bag of assorted sweets for the neighbourhood kids and 2 tickets to the school Halloween disco.

Stationsofthecross · 21/10/2022 20:27

is it really so hard to work out what Halloween expenses are - or do some just want to laugh at the op?!? Similar to Christmas expenses maybe - you know - stuff for events etc. 🤷🏻‍♀️

make him pay for fines out of his own account OP!

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/10/2022 20:27

The fine is not a joint expense, he incurred it alone through not paying something he knew needed paid for. I mean, Jesus, is having been clamped and fined TWICE not reminder enough?

NOT. A. JOINT. EXPENSE.

He pays for it himself.

pumpkinelvis · 21/10/2022 20:29

I don't have joint finances with my dh. But if you do and you each get 'pocket money' (or whatever people call it) then I'd expect my dh to pay it from his share. It's because of his own lack of planning/ judgement you're in this position.

Lilithslove · 21/10/2022 20:32

I feel this is becoming one of those weird mumsnet competitions where people signal they are above things like Halloween expenses and celebrating their birthday and valentines day. See also how little they eat.

OP, of course your dh should pay out of his personal money for this. It might help him remember to get a ticket next time.

This. So annoying when people on here act like the op is being unreasonable over something silly, they just come across as thick as shit.

Eh? I dont know anyone who has ‘Halloween expenses’. A couple of bin bags, a £1 pumpkin from Asda and a big bag of Haribos is all thats required.

Cakeandcardio · 21/10/2022 20:35

For the dim witted: Hallowe'en expenses are expenses related to Hallowe'en

Snugglemonkey · 21/10/2022 20:35

Yanbu.

People being incredulous at Halloween expenses are though. There are plenty of things to spend money in at Halloween. I would definitely rather do the pumpkin patch, Halloween crafting, supplying the trick or treaters, the spooktacular funfair etc that we do, than pay a parking fine.

@Soontobe60 there’s no need to be so obtuse.

We have reusable decorations, plus add balloons (£2/3) each year. Some things need replaced as they age/break (£5ish). £7

Pumpkin picking - 1 car £9 includes 1 small pumpkin. We have 3 DC so it’s a further £10/15. Add fuel, marshmallow toasting and a hot drink each (£30). £50

Costume - even a few acessories £10.

Sweets for our own DC £10.

Sweets for trick or treaters £10.

So that’s £87 already.

RedToothBrush · 21/10/2022 21:44

Yabu for having 'own money'

Yes. It’s very weird. Somehow being a killjoy is a virtue on MN.

autienotnaughty · 21/10/2022 21:47

YANBU at all but what are "Halloween expenses"??

I was wondering that too

Devoutspoken · 21/10/2022 21:50

All our money comes out of the same pot

Why is it on MN that sometimes all money is family money but at other times it's... oh wait,I get it.

I think if you forget to pay parking, but you're 'carrying the mental load' or you 'suffer from anxiety', it comes out of family money.

Or something like that.
I think the rules are flexible, changed at will 😂
