AIBU?

To think I could get away with wearing an Alice and at 30?

I've come across an Alice band that I wore years ago and have been reminiscing about how much I used to enjoy wearing it! I'm 30 now and worrying that I'm a bit old for one. I have long quite thick brown hair and if I'm being honest I don't have the prettiest face in the world. Aibu to think I might get away with wearing one

Try it, if you like the way it looks, wear it.

I think of Alice bands as being suitable for school kids, not grown women. Sorry!

There’s nothing to “get away with”. If you like it, wear it. Jeez you’re only a young thing!

@MsVestibule this was what I wondered about! I wore one loads as a child and tbh I very rarely see them on women

I hope it's padded velvet! I don't think there's an age limit, I've seen women with grey hair wearing Alice bands for practical reasons and it looks fine.

@melchim it's not unfortunately! It's only a black plastic one! Maybe if I end up wearing them again I'll get a velvet one!

Have your own mind?
Then wear it...

Or a sheep like 80% of people who post on Mumsnet?
Then don't wear it.

Fuck what anyone else does. I wear Alice bands and tiaras because headscarves and turbans don't stay on my head.

Velvet headbands were very much in when I was about 30, I wore them all the time.

Having not worn one for years, I dug out a red one for the jubilee street party as the dress code was red, white and blue and I didn't have anything else red...turns out you can get away with wearing one at 61, well past it looking little girlish.Grin

I think they're quite stylish now, doesn't Kate Middleton wear them? She's over 40 right? Go for it!

Get away with it?

What does that even mean? How does one 'Not get away' with wearing something?

Just wear what the fuck you fancy. You won't be arrested.

Alice bands are fairly fashionable now.

Wear it, don't wear it.

As you please.

I'm 32 and I sometimes wear pigtails!

I think we impose these kinds of restrictions on ourselves, whilst most other people around us would probably not even think of it.

If I saw an old lady wearing an Alice band, I wouldn't think she was too old old for it, so there is no way in hell I'd think it of a woman in her early thirties!

I occasionally wear a Missoni turban and huge sunglasses when the mood takes me.

I'm 50 next year.

Do I 'get away' with it?

Well no bugger's stopped me yet!
