To think I could get away with wearing an Alice and at 30?

I've come across an Alice band that I wore years ago and have been reminiscing about how much I used to enjoy wearing it! I'm 30 now and worrying that I'm a bit old for one. I have long quite thick brown hair and if I'm being honest I don't have the prettiest face in the world. Aibu to think I might get away with wearing one

I wear one everyday pretty much. A simple black plastic one about an inch wide. I found it indispensable when I returned to work after dc to help hold down all the new hair growth but I now just really like how it looks. I don't push my hair back, just pop it on my head. I look neither like a Sloane Ranger or a schoolgirl. And I am 37.

Lots of my friends in their late 20s/early 30s wear big headbands, usually velvet or heavily embroidered ones. I’ve noticed quite a few on the mums at nursery drop off too.

Squeezedsquash · 10/10/2022 04:29

Not often I refer to either style and beauty or Tory MPs but Penny Morduant wore one at the king’s accession and i thought it looked v near and tidy.

onlythreenow · 10/10/2022 05:04

I didn't know there was an age limit - I wore one at 62 and will do again if I feel like it.

Rosehugger · 10/10/2022 05:13

Yes of course anyone can wear one of any age. But some types look very 1980s Sloane Ranger/Tory wife. I like the more up to date ones.

thelastgreatdynasty · 10/10/2022 05:24

I wear a hair band most days. I'm older than you. I love them.

Have your own mind?
Then wear it...

Or a sheep like 80% of people who post on Mumsnet?
Then don't wear it.

Absolutely this! If you like it, wear it! Who really gives a fuck what anyone else thinks as to one's choice of attire?

averylongtimeago · 10/10/2022 05:41

My hair got very long during lockdown- I'm 63 with "badger grey" hair and I have a selection of them.

Wear what you like- not what other people tell you to!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/10/2022 05:46

I wore one a few years ago, probably around 30yrs old too and it looked good. I saw my friend wear one and she looked good with it too then I got mine
Do it!

Sestriere · 10/10/2022 06:00

Mmm, It’s a bit Sloaney and Princess Eugenie. You’re not too old though for sure.

thelobsterquadrille · 10/10/2022 06:07

I wear them everyday 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've not been arrested yet!

lljkk · 10/10/2022 06:37

I don't understand why pushing hair behind ones ears (always looked unsightly to me, and is uncomfy when your own ears, and doesn't keep hair in place) became the 'preferred look'. To each their own. I'm mid 50s & have worn hair bands for 30 years, won't stop until the hair isn't there.

colourmebladd · 10/10/2022 06:56

Wear what you like, at any age you like!

dreamcatchmee · 10/10/2022 06:56

A lot of my friends question some of my outfits but I'm of the mind that if I like it and it makes me happy, I really don't care. I often crimp my hair, very 90s/noughties vibes but I'm confident enough to not care about others views on my 'fashion' choices.
I've accepted I'm not fashionable and I'm happy with that.
Do what makes you happy, if it's going to make you feel anxious-maybe avoid? But don't be scared to express yourself :)

DillDanding · 09/10/2022 23:23

If you like it, wear it.

if you’re into fashion, don’t wear it 😂

What a restrictive way to live your life.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/10/2022 06:59

in lock down, no hair cuts available i considered it

Travelbunny · 10/10/2022 07:02

I have a beautiful padded one but haven’t got the confidence to wear it out as I feel it’s too Princess. I wear it at home instead!

i have decided since reading this thread that I’m going to wear it out today!

Kernowgirlie · 10/10/2022 07:03

Wear whatever you want.

www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/acacia-floral-print-brown-knot-headband-345014 I have this one, I love it

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/10/2022 07:03

Are you the wife of a guards officer?

Divebar2021 · 10/10/2022 07:04

🤔. It’s interesting because I was looking at some velvet headbands in Cos very recently. I was contemplating one for my short hair. It makes me think they’re not out of fashion if such a thing is a consideration. They’re only Sloaney if you wear them with a Sloaney outfit. Certainly your age is no barrier however old you are.

Divebar2021 · 10/10/2022 07:09

3 pretty minimalist looks with headbands.

Quitelikeacatslife · 10/10/2022 07:14

Im 50 and have several ones that look like knotted material and I often wear them for work . I think they kind of suit me. I wouldn't wear a black plastic one though apart from for round house gardening sport etc

treesandweeds · 10/10/2022 07:17

Don't wear it the way you used to wear them with a bump on hair at the front! Wear it on top of your head with hair to the sides still. I do, and I'm 50!

luxxlisbon · 10/10/2022 07:18

30 is not old and headbands are quite fashionable. Even if they weren’t in a massive advocate for wearing whatever the fuck you like!

silvercurls · 10/10/2022 07:21

They are in every clothing shop at the mo, very popular, I work with women aged 21 to 60 and lots of them wear them.
