To find Liz Truss so unconvincing

It's as though Liz Truss is acting (badly) the role of PM in some naff soap. I find her so unconvincing of her ability to be PM.

I listened to a podcast with Laura Kunesberg earlier and Liz Truss just talked over her continuously to drown out her questions. It was just drivel. I can't believe she's leading the country.

Reading the Guardian's analysis of the interview it sounds as though she did quite well - The prime minister appeared at ease...

She didn't come across well on the podcast and especially as she said she maintains her support for the income tax cut for the well off when less than 24 hours later it was removed. She also laid the blame at Kwasi Kwatengs feet. I suspect she is at ease as she truly believes she can do this. It's delusions of grandeur.

Tbh I try to take as little notice of politics as possible, she is fucking weird though... I can't define it, she's just really really odd.

echt · 04/10/2022 21:23

Being at ease don't mean Truss didn't talk over the interviewer. Which she did, by the way. Also, the points she made could well have judged drivel by the OP.

Foxfeeder · 04/10/2022 21:25

She appears to be the epitome of ambition over capability. I’ve met several people like this but they didn’t have jobs where they could create so much damage that would affect so many people.

AsanteSana · 04/10/2022 21:28

The 'weathercock' Prime Minister who changes position every time the wind blows from an alternative direction?

False, unconvincing, way out of her depth and will be gone by Christmas - unwanted by the vast majority of her own MP's and facing a task equal to that of Sisyphus...

Yes, unconvincing for sure!

Questionaboutjoboffer · 04/10/2022 21:30

Totally agree OP.

While Johnson was in charge I had to stop paying any attention to him for endlessly talking crap and making things up. With this one it is equally unbearable and even more cringeworthy. I sincerely hope that somehow or other Confused a General Election happens.

Ellie56 · 04/10/2022 21:31

Yep she's way out of her depth. She even makes Teresa May look good and that's saying something.

The Guardian missed an open goal then - unlike them.

Have you watched that interview Clavinova, or the one with Beth Rigby today?

The mortgage question with Beth Rigby was AMAZING.

I think Truss is brilliant. For Labour.

I watched the clip in the Guardian link.

Pilipalapal · 04/10/2022 21:41

I’ll never be able to get past her doing literal Margret Thatcher cosplay in the leadership debates.

I couldn’t believe we had an adult, in essence interviewing for the most important job in the country, playing dress up! It was deeply creepy.

And the fucking Tory members then voted her in!

Alltheholidays · 04/10/2022 21:42

Have you seen the Beth Rigby interview? . Absolutely toe curling! She is an absolute imbecile.
The mortgage question!! Sweet Jesus☺️

So beside the point, Clavinova but very much in the Oh look, a windmill style, favoured by the right wing.

No mention of Jeremy Corbyn yet, though. Slipping. Grin

Flugelbinder · 04/10/2022 21:44

Even if her policies were sound (!!!), the communication is JUST AWFUL.

  • Not speaking with the OBR, BoE or other MPs first is rule #1 surely, particularly given the crisis situation we’re in
  • Then hiding for days before doing a series of press conferences. Repeating stock phrases ad nauseum and then having massive silences whilst thinking what to say
  • And it’s so TEDIOUS when she does speak. It’s like listening to children learning to read aloud

Smacks of a huge introvert with avoidance tendencies. As a result she is in an echo chamber and convinced she is right on everything - oh until she changes her mind - on everything.

And people complain Starmer isn’t charismatic.

Clavinova · 04/10/2022 21:44

socially awkward, rigid

You could be describing Keir Starmer.

He’s bubbly and gregarious by comparison.

Flugelbinder · 04/10/2022 21:46

But we’re not @Clavinova.

karalimed · 04/10/2022 21:47

She's a puppet, she has been put there because she is useful to some people.

Most PMs are to an extent, but with her it's just so blatant. People like Crispin Odey are laughing at us all the way to the bank after her and Kwasi tanked the economy in an afternoon.

Teenyliving · 04/10/2022 21:48

like Trump and Johnson she is a glaring alansigbal thst the system isn’t working

i just keep thinking of all the rooms who would have worked with her over the years who must be screaming into the abyss

when you think of all the talented, intelligent and ethical people thst there are in the UK - for Johnson and then Truss to be PM - it is appalling

ancientgran · 04/10/2022 21:57

Just watched the Beth Rigby interview on the sky site. She is just like Johnson, can't answer the question she's asked. I think the Two Ronnies did a sketch like that.
