To think this is male fantasy about periods?

Trending there is a post about the reality of heavy periods, and yet every time I load MN there is faux advertising of women (of course thin and pretty and acceptably diverse) all hanging out in their pants by a window, looking back with a coy smile.

I'm sure there will be shouts of its advertising of course it needs to be aspirational/alluring etc, but this is MN, why can't the advertising be more honest?

Completely agree

Sniffypete · 26/09/2022 21:19

Haha I've never hung out with friends in my knickers! Obviously a concept thought up by someone who has never experienced menstruation.

PianoHouseBanger · 26/09/2022 21:31

Agree, but then if the reality was posted it would probably scare all the young girls coming up to menarche.

My period reality, is hanging around my bathroom for the first couple of days (sometimes in my pants), because of period poos and baths, otherwise I'm doubled over the pan, sweating profusely, due to the pain of feeling like my insides are being clawed out (endo and pcos).

Young me would have thought it a poster for a horror film 🤣

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/09/2022 21:35

And not one of them is heavily bloated!

TwoWrightFeet · 26/09/2022 21:36

I don’t think many men fantasise about women in period pants. But it’s certainly a woke advertising depiction of being a woman.

Hmm, I think they fantasise about the sterotypical view of being a woman .

At least they aren’t roller skating in white shorts !

Discovereads · 26/09/2022 21:51

I agree the picture is very male gaze. But I don’t think men have fantasies about periods? The ones I know all would rather not know anything about periods.

Firstruleofsoupover · 26/09/2022 21:52

I don’t get that ad, I get one of a bloke making raspberry chicken or a lass making salmon chowder.

Past the stage now but I remember the 24 hour poo and gooey bleed though, when a period started. Interesting what you say about the ads, as though buying a particular product might somehow alter a widely experienced reality. I suppose that is what all advertising is about.

LindseyHoyleSpeaks · 26/09/2022 21:54

It’s like all the adverts of women skipping along beaches in white shorts. Who in God’s name does that when there’s an abattoir situation going on down below?

I don’t wear white bottoms at the best of times, but there is no way on earth I’d even contemplate them the eight days of the month I’m flooding and clotting and fainting and generally feeling like there is no way I can possibly still be alive having lost so much blood so rapidly.

6 tablespoons’ worth they used to say at school! 6? More like 600! Or 6 pints! Or they confused tablespoon with the biggest frigging ladle of all time…

(PS - I have been to the GP about this numerous times, had scans, tried the pill, the mini pill, the coil, the patch, the Mirena and all to no avail. I’d whip the lot out if I could!)

CakeMonster1 · 26/09/2022 21:56

I think period product advertising is just misleading anyway full stop (unless it's just me)

They show people diving off diving boards, doing yoga and swimming, sprinting, jumping in trampolines (ads for tampons)

Seriously? Please say I'm not the only one that suffers heavy bleeding and darent move when I'm on for fear of leaking, let alone diving board/swimming. Christ if I go in water (even the bath) when menstruating it looks like a re-enactment of jaws or some horror movie.

YorkshireYarns · 26/09/2022 21:56

It’s a ridiculous image

Similarly slim pretty smiley women for some god only knows reason standing together by an open window all dressed in their pants looking amazed and wondrous at their fun joy filled lives.

I accept no one wants to see the reality of a bloated grumpy woman sat on the sofa in jogging bottoms eating biscuits but to flog period pants just take a photo of the pants on an average woman stood up not posing and be done with it.

Unfortunately it is a known fetishism.

TRIGGER/PUKE WARNING

There have been occasions where males find used tampons to insert into themselves. Sadly this is all too real. Anything about females turns some sickos on.

Same!

I suffer constantly with anaemia and low ferritin due to heavy periods. No idea how they think white shorts is good advertising.

Chloefairydust · 26/09/2022 22:01

Completely…

Why are they all standing by the window in their pants … Very strange!

I think there are men who seem to fantasise about just about anything

sorry just reading the word menarche has made my fanny heal over.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 26/09/2022 22:17

Agree @OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen What a naff and laughable box-ticking shitty ad!

ItsAutumnThen · 26/09/2022 22:17

My period pants double up as a bra - that's the reality.

mamabear715 · 26/09/2022 22:24

Is it Bodyform that have the ad with (I hope, faux) blood on a pad? Urgh. But yeah. If even that one was true to life, it would be dripping. :-(

It's not in the least woke. If anything, it's the opposite of woke.
