To think this is male fantasy about periods?

Trending there is a post about the reality of heavy periods, and yet every time I load MN there is faux advertising of women (of course thin and pretty and acceptably diverse) all hanging out in their pants by a window, looking back with a coy smile.

I'm sure there will be shouts of its advertising of course it needs to be aspirational/alluring etc, but this is MN, why can't the advertising be more honest?

I just don't get why its unrealistic- its a picture of women stood in some pants. That seems pretty realistic

How often have you stood by a window half dressed with you friends?

I'll admit, not often, a few times when we were getting dressed for nights out in small bedrooms maybe.

But its not meant to be real life - its a model photoshoot to advertise pants. Where are groups women (to show off different colours or styles) ever half naked in a room together?
Maybe if they took them in a gym changing room or in a series of cubicles at a gynecologists office?

Its one photo in an ad, I get with videos they can be a bit more 'real life' but its just a picture to show the shape and the different colours of their pants.

VladmirsPoutine · 27/09/2022 14:10

How would this ad best be presented then? How would it be more realistic?

Because fucking marketing is moving to relatable, real and gritty stuff. That is why even massive brands are using creator content and not pretty over produced content. That is why tik tok is becoming more popular than pretty instagram posed content.

There is some great period pages on social media platforms that are very popular. Real period wearing the products and being open and honest about things. That’s what people want to see.

No it isn't. It's still models, its still pretty young thin women.

Nobody wants to see the reality of periods on a banner above whatever shite they are looking at online. Nobody wants a pop up of my fat hairy middle aged body when I've leaker through a tampon and period pants combo, weeping and drinking cheap wine.

Reality doesn't sell.

Yeah I’d agree @CakeMonster1 yours do not sound typical (you should be able to manage some yoga and swimming on your period) - go see the GP and make a fuss till they take you seriously

The flow does not stop when you're in water, the pressure surrounding your vagina counteracts the force of gravity that helps blood flow out of your body.

I'm not sure what would be going on for this physics not to work for some people. Do you live on the moon CakeMonster?

It's not just gravity that helps blood flow out, it's the force of cramps too. And clots can still slide out. It also comes out if you cough or sneeze. It's mostly gravity but not everyone stops bleeding completely in water. I have to wear my cup in the bath still, and I'd never swim on my period. A bit always comes out in the water but the worst is when you stand up to get out and there's a bloody avalanche before you can grab a towel.

Where's the phot of the gusset and the info about how much they hold and how much they cost? Last period pants I saw were £35 a pair, and you'd need at least four pairs on the go — so completely beyond the reach of most girls and young women.

Er yes, I have literally said "the flow does not stop completely".
I don't have particularly heavy periods, but I would never consider swimming w/o protection or having a bath (the latter for exact reason you've said).

We are suggesting that CakeMonster bleeding so heavily while swimming or bathing is unusual and might warrant a trip to the GP.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/09/2022 15:11

How about we show a woman heading a business meeting or flying a plane as enabled by said choice of protection

Exactly. Female pilots may have concerns about how absorbant their protection is due to delays getting off and back onto a runway. Perfect example. And reassuring customers the product is built to last in a professional setting.

These are fairly cheap if anyone is looking

There is a picture of the gusset, the cost and that they are for heavy flow, which I think is what most people want to know.

I've never seen any cost that much. Primark have them, and M&S. I bought some from Belgium cost about 10€ a pair

And as I said, that's what women need to know: not an artful photo of ethnically varied girls without their trousers on.

I don't. I'm the target demographic, I doubt I'm the only one who doesn't.

MAybe your actual problem is you're looking to know everthing about a product from a photo? Most of us read the words etc to get the necesary details
