Do the adults who live in your house sit ON the kitchen island or worktops?

YABU - it's OK for them to sit on the kitchen island/worktops
YANBU - they should sit somewhere else

I do. My trousers (and the worktop) are clean, and I’m not going to damage it. I don’t see a problem.

As long as he doesn't do it in his outerwear and cleans it before cooking/eating id say it's fine

Does he wipe it down after?

Don’t do it very often as there isn’t much without wall cupboards and there are plenty of seats in my kitchen but I’ll climb on them to reach the top of the wall cupboards. Everyone used to sit on the worktop in my friends house when we were kids. Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

So if he does it in his pants it's fine? 🤢

I wouldn't be bothered personally. Sounds like you're being uptight.

Can't get worked up about it tbh

I do it. It's a bit high to get on comfortably but if I'm chatting in the kitchen, I'll happily hop up.

I've always sat on kitchen work tops at other people's as well as my own. No better place to be on a Friday night with some wine and the chewnes on!
Try it some time.

I do it. Don't really see it as a problem.

Does food get prepared on this work surface.

I used to do this as a child, but I wouldn’t be happy about it now. I think it’s unhygienic, I would not sit on the worktop wearing trousers I’d been out in all day and sat on the tube on the way home Envy boak

I also don’t like it when people come round and put their handbag on my kitchen table. Yuck! No idea where bags have been - on the floor of restaurants or a public loo, floor of tube etc. I always politely move them away or hang them up.

OP, your post made me chuckle as it immediately reminded me of Harry in SATC daring to sit nude on Charlotte’s pristine couch. The horror on her face as the thought of the skid marks!

I do. I wipe my counters down many times a day anyway

No way would I have this.

I was brought up that this wasnt allowed. Its where you prepare food. Would you sit all over the kitchen table?

I cant stand it when I see kids (its usually kids) sitting all over their parents worktops

Unless he's naked at the time I can't get excited about it myself.

Of course I'd sit on a kitchen table (so long as it was sturdy enough to hold my weight).

Totally fine.

Surely you don't generally put food straight onto the kitchen worktop when you prepare it, anyway?

thebluehen · 21/09/2022 21:51

I'm with you op.

I have chairs in my kitchen. There is never any need to sit on the worktops. Aside from the hygiene issues, it also means everyone else has to crane their neck to talk to them.

Surely you prepare food on chopping boards not the worktop Confused

Get a cat. Then there will be no room for your DH to sit on kitchen surfaces.
