Do the adults who live in your house sit ON the kitchen island or worktops?

YABU - it's OK for them to sit on the kitchen island/worktops
YANBU - they should sit somewhere else

I think it's odd, I've never seen anyone do that! Can he not sit on a chair or stool?

Bonjovispjs · 21/09/2022 23:45

I wouldn't care as long as it's not his bare bum on it.

Geppili · 21/09/2022 23:45

@Chelsea26 🤣🤣🤣

I also don’t like it when people come round and put their handbag on my kitchen table. Yuck! No idea where bags have been - on the floor of restaurants or a public loo, floor of tube etc. I always politely move them away or hang them up.

Yes, so polite

Snoopsnoggysnog · 21/09/2022 22:44

i said it was a bug bear… I don’t really need to explain it but no, I don’t like shopping bags or post on the table either.

Whew

FreezyFreezy · 21/09/2022 22:57

We don't sit on our worktops because they're too narrow, too high and have cupboards above them. I occasionally shit on the table though.

😂 love this @FreezyFreezy

HelloDaisy · 21/09/2022 23:55

I’d be amazed if my dh could get up onto the worktop, walking stick and all!

BadNomad · 22/09/2022 00:12

I do if I'm in the kitchen and want to sit down.

oviraptor21 · 22/09/2022 00:32

There's a certain guy abandon (is one allowed to use that phrase any more?) about sitting on a worktop. And the jumping up there is part of the fun. So yes, even at my grand old age, I still do these sometimes. And no the food doesn't get prepared directly on the same surface, we use a chopping board.
As for not putting phones on the kitchen table .... so glad I'm not part of that household. I'm sure the newspaper that lives there would vanish pretty quickly 😬

oviraptor21 · 22/09/2022 00:33

*gay abandon of course. I might have known that autocorrect wouldn't like it!

Ttaaoth · 22/09/2022 00:55

I often sit on the counter while waiting for stuff to cook or to have a quick breakfast.

LivingMyBestLie · 22/09/2022 01:02

Hygeine aside, I'd be more worried about someone damaging the units underneath or the mastic (depending on set up). A 12 stone man on a worktop, nope.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 22/09/2022 01:09

Shouldn't put that much weight on them, so no.

Guy A'Bandon is the hero in my new romance novel

LemonadeSunshine · 22/09/2022 01:22

Is it his kitchen too?

blueshoes · 22/09/2022 01:26

Just seems uncouth and try hard

This is a uniquely Mumsnet definition of "politely".

I'm assuming like this.

Shitty upgrade seems to have taken away moving gifs. Oh well.

Euw, arse sweat, no thanks.

I don't think the OP mentioned anything about her DH being naked 🤷‍♀️

Nidan2Sandan · 22/09/2022 06:50

Meh, couldn't get worked up about it. But then this is MN, the land of 6 showers a day, washing towels after each use, and I'm fairly sure I read once that a MNetter lays a towel down before sex, so MN accepted levels of hygiene are off the charts half the time.

PianoHouseBanger · 22/09/2022 07:20

Worktops are for plates and glasses, not for people's dirty arses

Hoolihan · 22/09/2022 07:32

I keep a handy spray bottle of Dettol in the porch - guests are required to give themselves an all over soaking before they are allowed over the threshold.

MacaroniBaloney · 21/09/2022 22:01

I've never seen an adult sat on a kitchen worktop in my life!

Me either. Has never once occurred to me.

In our kitchen you’d just hit your head on a shelf or cupboard anyway.

Personally I've installed a de-contamination shower at the front door and also require people to burn their outside clothes before they change into a hazmat suit. You can never be too careful.
