Shock it just keeps getting worse, his lawyers must wish he kept his mouth shut.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/06/2023 16:19

Commentators on both CNN and MSNBC have been saying that GOB's legal team, that is if there are any with actual ethics, must be having conniptions at the way he's running his mouth fingers on TruthSocial.

MSNBC has reported that GOB is 'hosting a birthday bash' next Tuesday (the day of court appearance). Since I think we're safe in assuming they aren't going to remand him into custody (worse luck!) I suppose he may as well bask in the adoration of the cult. And pass the 'offerings plate'.

Two of Trump’s lawyers, Rowley and Trusty, resign

Just listened to the most recent episode of Americast. They suggested that only a conviction under 1 or 2 articles of the espionage act would restrict access to public office and they argue that it’s possible that restriction would be trumped by the constitution which holds only 2 prerequisites for President 1. That you’re a natural born American citizen and 2. You’re over 35

BruceAndNosh · 09/06/2023 17:21

Alina Habba commented that the indictment "made her embarrassed to be a lawyer".
Frankly some of her TV appearances made me embarrased for her.

Is Trusty being replaced by the firm of Dodgy, Shady, Shonky and Dumb?

No, he'll be repped by the firm of Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/06/2023 19:31

Per CNN live feed:

In the federal indictment unsealed on Friday, former President Donald Trump faces a total of 37 counts, including 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information.
In addition to the willful retention of national defense information charges, the former president is charged with one count each of conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheme to conceal and false statements and representations.
Trump associate Walt Nauta is also charged in the indictment.

UGH! Why does that link have to have GOB's ugly gob plastered on it! At least, it does for me.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/06/2023 21:15

So I see that Boris has resigned, effective immediately. Maybe he and the GOB can commiserate about how hard done by they are.

Wonder if Boris has ever used the term 'witch hunt'.

The historic indictment and criminal case against former President Donald Trump will be overseen, at least initially, by a federal judge he appointed who has faced criticism for her handling of the case in its earlier stages.
Judge Aileen Cannon, a former federal prosecutor who was nominated to the bench by Trump in 2020, has been randomly assigned to handle the federal criminal case involving the former president’s handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-lago resort

Bugger. She's about as Pro Trump as they get.
Maybe that's a good thing?

BruceAndNosh · 09/06/2023 22:02

Sorry - that's not breaking news but I missed it earlier!

BruceAndNosh · 09/06/2023 23:34

It's hard to say. There have been plenty of Trump appointed judges who have, ahem, 'proved a disappointment' to him in the various court cases and lawsuits s far.

I'm sure the DoJ and the prosecution team will be keeping a very close eye on her rulings and actions, both past and with regards to this case.

BruceAndNosh · 10/06/2023 00:52

But doesn't the initial judge set the time frame?

@Roussette

Just like GOB, no loyalty. They'll put the blame anywhere they can.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/06/2023 11:33

BruceAndNosh · 10/06/2023 00:52

But doesn't the initial judge set the time frame?

Yes, to an extent. But the attorneys have a 'say' in it too to some extent. If she tried to set the trial either too soon or too far into the future, either side has the right to object and she'd have to justify that the dates are 'reasonable', either based on her calendar (and I have a feeling they're going to clear her calendar) or that the dates are 'in the interest of justice'. But this judge knows that 'the eyes of the world' will be upon her and that her professional reputation is at stake. So we shall see.

Interestingly enough, a number of articles refer to Judge Cannon as being 'initially assigned' to oversee the indictment, but that it is 'unclear' if she'll over see the actual trial. The appointment of a Special Master ruling she made on the MarALago case was criticized by many and overturned on appeal. Trump also tried to 'maneuver' an earlier case regarding the search warrant away from a Clinton appointed judge, and mentioned Judge Cannon as a 'possibility'.

Trump-appointed judge assigned to initially oversee the Florida case

Aileen Cannon previously sided with the former president.
