To ask you where your curtains are from?

Currently searching for curtains and really struggling to find anything that works. I'm looking for colour (yellows, blues, teals), with blackout lining and in larger-than-average sizes around 2.2m wide by 2m drop.

I don't want polyester but any ready made cotton curtains I've found on sites like Next and Dunelm are very fuddy duddy and old fashioned - think swirly patterns and checks.

I don't quite have the budget for bespoke, but could stretch to £150-200 per pair.

Please dear mumsnetters, tell me where I can find reasonably-priced ready-made blackout curtains in contemporary designs!

I've got plain (Teal)blackout curtains from Amazon, for my bedroom. The spare room has purple blackout curtains from B and M. The living room ones are cream with teal-coloured leaf patterns, and they were from The Range

John Lewis!

MatildaTheCat · 21/09/2022 13:01

This isn’t much help as I’ve had all of mine made by a curtain lady but my MIL taught herself to make curtains and was really good despite never sewing anything else. She did it through necessity and always had beautiful, lined curtains at a fraction of the price.

Dunelm are lovely and cheap.

CrotchetyQuaver · 21/09/2022 13:18

I make mine. It's not that difficult really.
Every time I've bought ready mades, the pattern has never matched up right and I often had to shorten them anyway. I've ended up with lovely curtains even if I do say so myself

missbipolar · 21/09/2022 13:20

Dunelm- love them

crosstalk · 21/09/2022 13:25

Charity shop. You just have to be very patient and know the size and the headings you need. Or be a good seamstress so you can do the alterations yourself. Last lot perfect lined and black out for huge window in exact shade and texture £40.

But not advisable if you need it now now.

Sunnyqueen · 21/09/2022 13:31

Mine are vintage, 60s satin brocade from ebay got them 4 years ago and still love them

NotMeNoNo · 21/09/2022 13:31

I've learned to make mine, a good book and mid range sewing machine is all you need. There are masses of shops/websites selling discounted fabric, I was just browsing the Voyage outlet at £8 per metre, and you can use a higher quality lining too.

Also keep an eye on the bargain corner at Dunelm where they sell off returned bespoke orders.

Dunelm are lovely and cheap.

Yep! Got all mine from there! And the black out blinds too!!

rickandmorts · 21/09/2022 14:02

We've just got some in the John Lewis sale for £35. Maybe not what I'd choose but we're skint and they're lovely quality and better than the towels we had over the window previously 😂

I got a pair for my living room from Dunelm, they were of poor quality so I got a set from John Lewis. Not much more money but much better quality. They are navy velvet.

GettingStuffed · 21/09/2022 14:26

Ours are from Wayfair

Ohtsd · 21/09/2022 14:29

All of mine are the ready made ones from John Lewis

Augend23 · 21/09/2022 14:31

John Lewis again here. I have had 4 sets from them and they're all lovely. 1 grey, 2 blue sets and another grey with yellow.

Worth noting you can buy blackout linings separately from Dunelm if you find some you like without blackouts. They just hook either onto the curtains or slide onto the pole depending on the curtain type.

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 21/09/2022 14:34

Mine are from John Lewis too.

I got one pair super cheap in the sale that are absolutely gorgeous but have an almost unnoticeable design flaw. Doesn't bother me in the slightest!

TattiePants · 21/09/2022 14:34

Most of mine are made to measure as I have huge windows but I do have a couple of pairs from John Lewis and a pair from Dunelm. I've just ordered a couple of pairs from Bluebellgray which I'm hoping are long enough otherwise I'll have to have them made.

FreezyFreezy · 21/09/2022 14:38

All our curtains are plain blackout ones. We bought them from Dunelm Mill (but they were expensive and heavy) and Argos and Amazon.

Milknosugarta · 21/09/2022 14:41

Curtains2go website. Lots of lovely contemporary and bright colours

Dotjones · 21/09/2022 14:43

Amazon, curtains for £20 or so instead of £100 in the shops.

MentalMini · 21/09/2022 14:56

I got Helena Springfield Roma curtains in Emerald for a massive window from Debenhams online, so thick and fantastic quality. All my other curtains cost about £20 and are definitely worse quality and really thin in comparison.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 21/09/2022 14:58

Harrods. I may be lying, it could have been Studio Cards catalogue.

Throughabushbackwards · 21/09/2022 19:01

IKEA.
