To feel awful that I’ve wasted the money

I ordered a bottle of wine and some snacks on Deliveroo last night as a treat, but fell asleep before they arrived. I woke up this morning to find a notification on my phone saying the order had been delivered, but can’t see it anywhere in my front garden. If the driver did leave it then I suppose someone might have nabbed it overnight. I just feel so silly and awful that I’ve wasted the money.

Ah, we live and learn don't we! Sorry you missed your treats but don't think there's much you can do at this point.

stopitleaveitgetdown · 15/09/2022 08:35

This happened to me with deliveroo dropping off a McDonald's for me and the kids. He didn't even buzz (and my buzzer is loud!). I immediately contacted deliveroo to say it's saying delivered but he didn't even buzz and where is my food. They offered a refund after 3 days but I was livid.

Contact them and tell them it wasn't delivered, you should get your money back

They say it was delivered though - I don’t think I have a leg to stand on really, it’s my fault for falling asleep! I’m so annoyed with myself.

If it’s alcohol they should only have given it to you and not left it outside. I would complain, it clearly wasn’t delivered correctly.

ZumaBeach · 15/09/2022 08:44

For alcohol orders, I think they need to confirm your date of birth on delivery and see that the ID matches the info given on the order on the system - so it sounds like they can’t have delivered it properly and you should be able to ask for their proof of delivery. Sorry you missed out on your treat.

readingismycardio · 15/09/2022 08:46

On a lighthearted note, you did skip the calories Wink joke aside, I'd complain about the alcohol part.

CrapBucket · 15/09/2022 08:47

Get a refund! Don't feel awful, I'd be annoyed at myself too but honestly they will give you the money back.

feelingsilly22 · 15/09/2022 08:58

So according to their T&Cs you will be charged if they’re not able to deliver due to you not answering the door for example. Fair enough really! I’m beating myself up about the wasted money, what an idiot I am.

I've done it. Say it wasn't delivered and you'll get a refund.

Castleheights · 15/09/2022 09:02

Feeling your annoyance. Pizza delivery £50 down. Would not refund. Bastards! But yes my fault I was in the shower and missed them. What is the answer though?

picklemewalnuts · 15/09/2022 09:05

Well you haven't really wasted the money. The money was gone whether you ate the snacks or not. Assuming you didn't buy/eat more in its place.

You were asleep, so didn't miss the food and drink.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 09:05

It's annoying and I'd be naffed off if they didn't offer a refund, but it's not the end of the world. It's not like you'd have anything to show for it this morning if it had arrived and you drank the wine and ate the snacks.

oakleaffy · 15/09/2022 09:30

@feelingsilly22
I was woken by a noise at my front door after midnight,
My normally very quiet dog barked once-
I crept out of bed to see a man in a bike helmet at my front door, shining a torch through my windows.
He was then banging about on windows and the front door again.
I was shaking with fear.
My neighbour spoke to the man, but the man STILL didn’t go away!
He was hanging about for over ten minutes.

I was so frightened by it, but next day, neighbour said it was a deliveroo person.

Shining torches (phone) through windows is a step too far.
Maybe your stuff was taken to a wrong address??

Don't complain, someone could lose their job and it's hardly their fault you fell asleep? Deliveroo/Uber eats etc often do just leave by the door rather than knock

Give over, there's a reason you have to confirm your age when alcohol is delivered, you can't just abandon it on doorsteps. If they lose their job it's tough shit.

But would she have complained if she was awake and it was left there? if the actual concern for her is that they didn't check her if then fine, but I doubt it. complaining about things to using actually care about to get a refund because you fell asleep and missed your delivery doesn't feel right.
the delivery drivers are treated awfully as it is

C1N1C · 15/09/2022 09:41

A similar thing happened to us. The wife ordered some snacks to cheer me up and left the letter off our house number... it went to the next door neighbour. By the time we realised, it was too late and they no doubt ate them.

No checking it was for us from the neighbour... Still pissed at them! :)

AlsoknownasOther · 15/09/2022 09:42

I like to think the badly paid and poorly treated delivery person took it home and enjoyed it.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 09:43

You don't need to be pure of heart to complain. They didn't follow procedures and, if they had, it wouldn't be stolen.

You'd like to think they stole it, really?

If it couldn't be delivered it's only going to go to waste.

Slakoths · 15/09/2022 09:54

Sat waiting for food before then suddenly showed as "delivered" so went outside to check if any neighbours had our food abandoned on their doorstop... turns out the delivery driver had dropped our order on the street, spilling everywhere and making it inedible, then checked it as delivered and made a hasty exit! Took ages to get a refund, nobody says justeat in this house anymore

TiddleyWink · 15/09/2022 09:56

This sounds really odd to me, sorry. You fell asleep and didn’t wake up until morning, which means, what, you were in bed? You ordered wine to be delivered to you while you were in bed? I’m sure I’ll get piled on for this opinion but do you have a drink problem? I just can’t imagine a situation where I order a bottle of wine at a point where I’m in bed and ready to fall asleep for the night? Maybe at 8pm or something, to enjoy for the evening, but if that was the case I can’t understand how you were at the point of falling asleep and staying asleep for the whole night? This sounds like really odd behaviour…reminds me of the thread where a poster was fuming her partner hadn’t woken her up at 2am to eat a full greasy pizza and sides. Do people have takeaways from their beds…?!

feelingsilly22 · 15/09/2022 09:58

I accept it’s totally my fault. Just annoyed with myself really.

I wonder why the status update said “delivered” though!

It's still worth contacting them and saying you never received it. You might get lucky and get a refund.
