To feel awful that I’ve wasted the money

I ordered a bottle of wine and some snacks on Deliveroo last night as a treat, but fell asleep before they arrived. I woke up this morning to find a notification on my phone saying the order had been delivered, but can’t see it anywhere in my front garden. If the driver did leave it then I suppose someone might have nabbed it overnight. I just feel so silly and awful that I’ve wasted the money.

Why won't you contact them at least, OP? Don't be so passive!

feelingsilly22 · 15/09/2022 10:07

Lol - thanks for the concern but no I don’t have a drink problem! I stupidly lay down on the bed while waiting for the order then nodded off 🤦‍♀️

@feelingsilly22
I was woken by a noise at my front door after midnight,
My normally very quiet dog barked once-
I crept out of bed to see a man in a bike helmet at my front door, shining a torch through my windows.
He was then banging about on windows and the front door again.
I was shaking with fear.
My neighbour spoke to the man, but the man STILL didn’t go away!
He was hanging about for over ten minutes.

I was so frightened by it, but next day, neighbour said it was a deliveroo person.

Shining torches (phone) through windows is a step too far.
Maybe your stuff was taken to a wrong address??

Oh my gosh, I can see why you’d have been terrified! 😆

Ah don't worry about it. You would have paid for it anyway so it's not like you have less money now than you would have. You just haven't done the eating bit.

Why bother? OP knows it was her error.

oakleaffy · 15/09/2022 10:19

@feelingsilly22
At least the deliveroo person tried hard to get a response-
so much so that a neighbour asked what all the disturbance was about.
He must have mis- read the address.
Worth a followup especially if they are to see ID for alcohol?

mam0918 · 15/09/2022 10:24

They could not leave 18+ products lying around, this would be illegal and you would instantly be entitled to a refund.

If they took the items with them you are entitled to the cost of the products you paid for and did not recieve (they can only claim a cost for delivery or charge for re-delivery but you are entitled to your products or the cost).

mam0918 · 15/09/2022 10:28

also YABU if you just act like a doormat and not even try to get your money that you are legally entitled to back.

No one is winning by you sitting there feeling sorry for yourself and in this money climate posting you are able to throw money away because you cant be arsed to get it back is a bit crass.

rnsaslkih · 15/09/2022 10:44

Put it behind you, forget about it and move on.

stopitleaveitgetdown · 15/09/2022 10:44

@feelingsilly22 oh I didn't check the T&C but I literally had the phone in my hand and it said "enjoy your delivery" and I was not eating my McDonald's. I called the McDonald's it was coming from and they said they couldn't send the guy back so I contacted Deliveroo and went off saying the driver has lied saying they delivered it when they didn't, they apologised and refunded me.
Still contact them you never know

Rhythmisadancer · 15/09/2022 10:49

they're not allowed to leave alcohol on the doorstop - they are supposed to ID check the recipient, so regardless of the reason you didn't answer the door they can't have delivered it. Get your money back.

feelingsilly22 · 15/09/2022 10:52

To update - I've now spoken to them via the live chat, they said that as per the T&Cs, because I didn't answer the door I'm not entitled to a refund. What an idiot I am!

Loics · 15/09/2022 10:53

I love how OP has stated so many times it was her fault, she recognises that and it's in line with T&Cs, but there are still so many posts of "try to dupe them into getting a refund anyway!". 😂
Maybe they didn't leave the alcohol, it could have been returned to the store/disposed of or whatever protocol they follow. They say a missed order is non-refundable, OP missed it. It sucks, but unfortunately it happened.

Vegetablesupreme · 15/09/2022 10:59

Look on the positive side. Had you drank the wine and eaten the snacks the money would still be gone but you'd have woken hungover and bloated plus tired. As it is you've had a good nights sleep minus the hangover this morning.

Kissingfrogs25 · 15/09/2022 11:04

I could never order from them again.

I was outside a takeaway when the delivery guy grabbed someone's order. He was in a massive rush and one of the cartons tipped out all over the payment, chicken drumstick type things. I looked at him in sympathy. Turned around to pick up my takeaway and he had clearly scooped up the order from the filthy chewing gum covered pavement and bundled it in the bag was riding away on his motorbike!!!!!!! I would have called him out otherwise.

DISGUSTING!!!! So no, never ordering again. God knows I doubt that was exceptional

You ARE entitled to a refund for good not recieved, they can NOT keep your property that you bought from a 3rd party they can only keep the delivery fee or charge a new delivery fee.

They must either redeliver (with a resonable delivery fee) or refund you all except the delivery fee (as they have kept your goods).

Georgeskitchen · 15/09/2022 11:11

I work for a food establishment that uses justeat for home deliveries and I neve cease to be staggered at how much people are prepared to pay for takeaway food which is charged at a higher rate than walking in customers , plus delivery charges on top.
These will probably be the same ones who will be screeching that they can't pay their electric bills this winter

Hand me my arse please

newbiename · 15/09/2022 11:14

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 09:05

It's annoying and I'd be naffed off if they didn't offer a refund, but it's not the end of the world. It's not like you'd have anything to show for it this morning if it had arrived and you drank the wine and ate the snacks.

Why would they offer a refund ? She fell asleep. If they left it outside , I expect it's been stolen.

LookItsMeAgain · 15/09/2022 11:28

I have a question for you @feelingsilly22 - would you and do you hear your doorbell when you're asleep generally?

If you do, and it would wake you from a snooze, then they didn't deliver the items correctly. If you don't and wouldn't be woken up by your doorbell ringing while you sleep, then, yeah, you wasted the money.

WaddleAway · 15/09/2022 11:29

Its not really a waste of money as the money would be gone regardless. You just didn’t have the booze and snacks. You’re no worse off, financially.

Ihatethenewlook · 15/09/2022 11:31

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 09:36

Give over, there's a reason you have to confirm your age when alcohol is delivered, you can't just abandon it on doorsteps. If they lose their job it's tough shit.

They would have taken it back as the op did not answer the door. That’s why it’s no longer there. In their terms and conditions it states that you are liable to pay if you place an order but then fail to answer the door, which is fair enough. She’s just wasted someone’s time. If she lies and says the delivery driver never came in attempt to claw back some money through her own mistake, then the delivery driver at best loses money for the work he did actually carry out, and at worst faces disciplinary action.

whynotwhatknot · 15/09/2022 11:55

i had a dlivery once years ago not turn up it was midnight i ordered but id done it on the phone they said it was fine it never turned up and they lied and said they knocked which they didnt

never ordered from them again

i would have said at least next time tell them not to mark it as delivered

Angelofthenortheast · 15/09/2022 12:05

Reminds me of the time I was so excited I'd bought some treats for myself that I did a little jump in the air, dropped the bag, it smashed on the floor, then I had no money left and had to walk home empty handed! You'll get over it eventually! Plus saved yourself the calories and units 😁

Levellingdown · 15/09/2022 12:14

I once had my order delivered to an adjacent street with same address - luckily the person there brought it round.

I’ve also had orders say ‘delivered’ when they have not been. Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber are all appalling customer service you have to just refuse to give up and keep on and on. Like for days, then they refund you. I’ve also resorted to charging back through my bank.

Did they phone you to try and get hold of you. They might not have even come. They have to refund you.

CoastalWave · 15/09/2022 12:15

You need to ring them - say it never arrived - fgs don't say you didn't hear the door!

I don't have an issue with doing this as it's not like you've stolen the items and you're asking for them again. They took YOUR PAID WINE AND TREATS back to stock. You're entitled to them!

Stop being a doormat and just tell them it didn't arrive and you want your order.
