To ask my neighbour for a pad?!

So my nearest shop is a 20 min walk away, and it's raining (light but streaming if you see what I mean). I'm due to get my period either tonight or tomorrow morning but am totally out of sanpro.
I know my neighbour "sort of": I gave away a perfume via my local FB group, and she collected it. We also speak pretty much daily on Messenger about a guy who is suspected of poisoning cats in our area (we are both crazy cat ladies).

I really cant be bothered to walk to the shop but equally does this make me incredibly lazy/is it inappropriate to ask her for one or two pads?

If I'm going to the shop I need to leave within the hour!

YABU = stop being lazy and go to the shop
YANBU = ask the neighbour thats what they're for

I'm voting for you to walk to the shop for using the word sanpro 🤦🏻‍♀️

Gazelda · 14/09/2022 17:29

I'd walk to the shops.

If you ask to borrow one, and your period starts at tea time today, then you won't have enough to see you through the night.

You'll need to borrow at least 4 to be confident you'll be ok through to after your shower in the morning. And asking for 4 is a bit more then an emergency neighbour ask, in my opinion.

Sorry - I'd not want to be faffed with going out for sanpro in the rain either!

Antarcticant · 14/09/2022 17:29

Your neighbour might use a moon cup, or period pants or might not have periods for medical reasons. I'd get down to the shop if I were you.

"I'm voting for you to walk to the shop for using the word sanpro"

Seconded. Cringe

MummyDummyNow · 14/09/2022 17:30

Why can't you go to the shop?

What's wrong with sanpro? It's an easy way to say "pads, towels, tampons etc"

Maireas · 14/09/2022 17:30

Just go to the shop.

thefoggiest · 14/09/2022 17:31

@Gazelda
I should have said "sanitary protection" or "tampons or pads", clearly!

I'd much rather my neighbour asked me that's traipsed down to the shops in the rain. I'd happily give her a new packet.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 14/09/2022 17:32

In those circumstances I'd walk to the shop. You can buy a whole box of the ones that suit you.

But in emergencies, I've never known a woman who wouldn't follow the universal woman code that you give a woman a pad/tampon if she needs and you have. Even if you hate her.

nachoavocado · 14/09/2022 17:32

Get off the Internet and go to the shop. You'll only have to go tomorrow anyway.

Hillrunning · 14/09/2022 17:32

It's an odd request. I don't use any so would feel really awkward if my neighbour asked me and I had so say that I don't have any or maybe feel the need to pretend to look before saying no.

Could you use delivroo to get some delivered if you really can't be bothered to go out?

FlounderingFruitcake · 14/09/2022 17:33

Go to the shops. If it starts tonight wouldn’t you need at least 3, probably 4, to get you through to morning? That’s a bit much for a neighbourly ask! Also she might not have periods due to the pill, mirena, many other reasons and even if she does, how do you know she even uses pads?

Ponderingwindow · 14/09/2022 17:33

if you needed one to get you to the shop, it would make sense to ask. Just asking because you don’t feel like going is strange.

These days there is also a decent chance she doesn’t have any. I don’t stock disposables. Can’t stand the things.

HaveringWavering · 14/09/2022 17:35

Just fold up a flannel or rip up an old T shirt or something if you can't be bothered walking to the shop.

Chikapu · 14/09/2022 17:35

Go to the shop. I can't imagine being this ill-prepared for something that literally happens every month, don't you stock up?

User287264 · 14/09/2022 17:35

I dont have periods because I'm on the depo injection so I wouldn't have any to give you. Just go to the shop.

I wouldn't be offended if you knocked and asked for one though. I might be if you asked for 4 to see you through until you could be bothered walking to the shop.

bbcdefg · 14/09/2022 17:35

Walk to the shop. You don't know that she even has pads or tampons in her house. I don't now as I'm menopausal and before that I had the coil and didn't need them so it would've been touch and go if I had any in the house (if my dd was home from uni I would have but if she wasn't here or had taken them there wouldn't have been any)

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 14/09/2022 17:36

If it hasn't started yet, go to the shop. If it were an emergency that's different, but you are essentially involving your neighbour in your cycle and that's fucking weird.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 14/09/2022 17:36

I’d ask the lady that’s next door to me and I don’t chat to her on messenger or anything else. I’d be very happy to help her out too if I could.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 14/09/2022 17:37

Go to the shop! I'd say ask if your period had started and you were heavily bleeding but...

Sillystripytail · 14/09/2022 17:38

This is so bloody weird. Just go to the shop you lazy mare (as my mum would say😏)! I'd understand if your period had started so you didn't want to go without protection but come on!

RitaFires · 14/09/2022 17:44

I'd much prefer to go to the shop in that situation and then I can buy whatever suits me, a borrowed pad or tampon is not necessarily going to be the type you like to use. Also if they just give you one then you're back in the same position in a few hours.

Blackmetalmama · 14/09/2022 17:45

Weird that you would do this instead of a quick walk to the shop. You're going to need more than one or two so will eventually have to go, get on with it and leave the lady alone. I wouldn't have a problem giving somebody a pad if they needed one, like coming on their period all of a sudden with nothing on them. But out of sheer laziness, I wouldn't be so impressed.

EverydayIsPJday · 14/09/2022 17:47

Yeah you need to walk to the shops..
