To ask my neighbour for a pad?!

thefoggiest · 14/09/2022 17:25

So my nearest shop is a 20 min walk away, and it's raining (light but streaming if you see what I mean). I'm due to get my period either tonight or tomorrow morning but am totally out of sanpro.
I know my neighbour "sort of": I gave away a perfume via my local FB group, and she collected it. We also speak pretty much daily on Messenger about a guy who is suspected of poisoning cats in our area (we are both crazy cat ladies).

I really cant be bothered to walk to the shop but equally does this make me incredibly lazy/is it inappropriate to ask her for one or two pads?

If I'm going to the shop I need to leave within the hour!

YABU = stop being lazy and go to the shop
YANBU = ask the neighbour thats what they're for

Er...walk to the shop for your sanpro.

mycatisannoying · 14/09/2022 17:48

I'd be very happy to help out a neighbour in this situation. And I'd be glad they felt they could ask.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/09/2022 17:48

I really don’t think “I can’t be bothered” when you’re not even on yet is a reason to ask this kind of favour. Save it for a real emergency!

DillDanding · 14/09/2022 17:51

Go to the shop. Stop saying ‘Sanpro’.

If my neighbour asked for a pad, she’d be out of luck. I only use tampons.

SpinningFloppa · 14/09/2022 17:51

Very weird and no I would never do this and if a neighbour did I would find it very odd, 20 mins isn’t far even if it is raining 🙄

AquaticSewingMachine · 14/09/2022 17:53

Just get off your lazy bum and go to the shop.

It would be different if you'd already started and it was an emergency; then any woman with the capability to do so would help you out. But your neighbour isn't there to save you the trouble of doing your own legwork.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2022 17:54

Stop being lazy!

Sunnyqueen · 14/09/2022 17:55

Strange one, if a neighbour asked me I wouldn't mind or think it weird at all, in fact I'd think it quite sweet they felt comfortable with me like that.

But would I ask dare ask a neighbour hell no...
If you really cba to go in the rain that's what uber eats etc. Is for lol

BlodynGwyn · 14/09/2022 17:55

Please don't embarrass your neighbor like this. Get yourself to the shop like a grown up and don't involve other people.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 14/09/2022 17:31

I'd much rather my neighbour asked me that's traipsed down to the shops in the rain. I'd happily give her a new packet.

Ha ha no chance I'd give an entire packet to anyone!

kirkandpetal · 14/09/2022 17:57

For goodness sake, by the time you typed this up and read all the responses you prob could have been at the shops and got what you needed.

Is this what Mumsnet is reduced to now, making basic decisions for folk? Good grief.

Aubriella · 14/09/2022 17:57

I would happily give you a pad, OP! Go and ask her, ignore the mealy mouthed lot here.

Get some period pants from Primark, 3 for a tenner,.

PayPennies · 14/09/2022 17:58

I don’t understand.

We buy sanitary products before we bleed.

It is currently - before you bleed. So you go and buy sanitary products.

I’m seconding this. Is this really what we are like now? Creating threads to ask whether we should go and buy sanitary products before our period is occurring? Obviously the answer to this is : yes, you should buy such a product before your period occurs.

Chikapu · 14/09/2022 17:35

Go to the shop. I can't imagine being this ill-prepared for something that literally happens every month, don't you stock up?

I don't get this either.

SheWoreYellow · 14/09/2022 18:01

Are you sure you don’t have a single one at the bottom of a bag/in a drawer?

This sounds very much like it is written by a man.

OP just put some loo roll in your knickers like millions of women before you and walk to the shops you lazy git.

its getting ridiculous isn’t it. This thread along with the ones that say ‘is it ok to feed my kid a picky tea’ 🙄

I’m surprised there isn’t any threads asking for someone to wipe their ass for them yet.

PayPennies · 14/09/2022 18:02

Oh my goodness - I’ve just thought that this might actually be written by a man/person who has urhm- fantasies around women apparently asking each other for sanitary products.

Yes. You’ve got it. That’s it. I only clocked this quite late after the peculiarity of the thread fully hit home.

Wonderlandddd · 14/09/2022 18:03

Do you have deliveroo or Uber eats in your area? I’ve been caught out unexpectedly before and unable to leave the house, so I’ll usually order them on there from a grocery shop such as co-op etc as it’s usually very quick.

Songoftheseas · 14/09/2022 18:04

I can be exceptionally lazy and would hate walking in the rain, however I think it’s completely inappropriate to ask your neighbour for sanitary pads (or alternative), even if you are friendly with her. I’d be horrified if someone asked me this other than a relative or very close friend.

fernz · 14/09/2022 18:04

I wouldn't have any because I use cloth pads, a cup and period pants. So it would be slightly awkward if someone asked and I had to refuse for that reason.

FOJN · 14/09/2022 18:04

I would help a neighbour out but unless the shops weren't open or they had a disability and couldn't get to the shop I would think it was weird.

Why would you ask for enough pads or tampons to last you until tomorrow when the shops are still open today? How come you don't have any in the house, it would be quite unusual (not impossible) to have use your very last tampon or pad at the end of your last period, even more unusual not have restocked before now.

Go to the shop and buy what you need before you need it.
