Center Parcs closing for funeral

ViscountessBridgerton · 13/09/2022 12:43

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

Presumably all the staff will still have to work on Monday anyway checking people out and cleaning all the accommodation etc. fair enough to shut the restaurants for a few hours but everything else is just madness.

It seems they arent cleaning until tuesday, guest wont have access until evening.

But checking everyone out/evicting people from site would logically take longer than letting people stay.

Vonniee7 · 13/09/2022 16:09

What a ridiculous decision, especially for those being asked to leave in the Monday and return on the Tuesday. That's mental. Close the facilities and let people stay in their accommodation ffs.

Pippylongstock · 13/09/2022 16:10

Completely ridiculous but probably entirely based on the bottom line. They usually get to charge exorbitant rates for bank holidays but will have been caught out on this one. I doubt it has anything to do with respecting their staff

Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 16:10

@Jugglingeggs what's the point in your post?

We are travelling with 3 under 3, all in private nursery (which are closed!!!) and so more than entitled to take our kids out for a cheaper holiday.. surely you can work out that kids aged at least 0-4 are not in school settings!

pinok · 13/09/2022 16:14

I just can’t get my head round who decided this and why

Making people, many who have travelled for hours to get there, LEAVE PARTWAY THROUGH their holiday for ONE NIGHT then return

Just wtf 😳

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 13/09/2022 16:17

Bet the customer service people turned up today and just sat with their heads in their hands.
Wonder how many of the big wigs who made this stupid decision are on the phones with angry people right now. I was considering a holiday there now my son is out of school time learning and we could go at a cheaper time. I will not be going now.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 13/09/2022 16:17

I get everyone saying that the staff should have the right to pay their respects but seriously, if you're already on holiday and they're kicking you out, where are you supposed to go..... I can understand shutting down the park facilities but to kick people out of the park entirely leaving them nowhere to actually go...? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes I reckon you have it.

Unexpected long weekend, mismatch with rates, cause havoc with guests by asking them to leave

They don’t care about guests and I’m willing to bet they care even less about staff.

I have never been to cp , didn’t realise dc so young went

FirewomanSam · 13/09/2022 16:22

This is utterly ridiculous. I'd understand if they cancelled all the activities and only offered a very stripped-down service on Monday (no cleaning, very limited catering, that kind of thing) but how can it possibly make sense to ask people to leave and come back? And where do they expect people to go? Either they go home (if they're lucky enough to live close to their destination) or have to pay to stay in alternative accommodation, which I guess they're assuming will be staying open (unlike them).

And only a 17% refund for all that inconvenience - unpacking, repacking, travelling back and forth.

Total madness and a completely weird decision!

vera99 · 13/09/2022 16:22

Congratulations Center Parcs you are right at the top of the leaderboard of not reading the room right and having the opposite effect of what you intended. I can see a handbrake screeching uturn coming soon.

I know loads of couples with babies and toddlers who go to CP. It seems to be a reliable destination for an easy break when you have a young child in tow!

PersonaNonGarter · 13/09/2022 12:53

YABU.

Centre Parcs have staff. Staff that are difficult to recruit and retain. This time they have prioritised their staff over their guests. They are also being respectful.

I'd be willing to bet that if they offered the staff suitable financial compensation to work, there would be many (queuing) to take up the offer. I know of very few people who want the day off to watch the funeral.
Its possible to think of their customers and their staff.

I see it is now in the Daily Mail

Porcupineintherough · 13/09/2022 16:29

Expecting guests to leave for 30 hours is insane. So insane I suspect a u turn is coming - where are they all supposed to go?
If I were a week long guest I'd be cross enough about activities/restaurants shutting for the day, but expecting you to lit move elsewhere!

JamesMitch · 13/09/2022 16:30

Refunds on offer and alternative choices for people. Full story, here

Soproudoflionesses · 13/09/2022 16:30

LBC are talking about it now

Chocolatedip · 13/09/2022 16:31

It’s awful. I’ve been looking at the stressed out people on centre parcs’ fb page and feel for them. Where are the guests supposed to suddenly go?!

Topseyt123 · 13/09/2022 16:32

BungleandGeorge · 13/09/2022 15:52

I noticed that center parcs was almost instantly booked up that weekend when the bank holiday was announced (so obviously lot of people not bothered about observing mourning). The sensible option if they wanted to close would seem to be departures by 10, arrivals after 4/5 and weekly guests to stay but close facilities. Bonkers to make weekly guests leave but I’m not sure how many weekly guests they get

This is really what they should do, but common sense seems to be in short supply at Centerparcs HQ at the moment. The villas have TV, don't they? TV screens could also be put up in some communal areas to allow staff and customers to watch the funeral if they wished to.

Absolutely ridiculous that people already on a break there will have to leave for more than 24 hours and then come back! Are they stupid enough to think that all customers live just around the corner and can do this? What about people who live hours away? I highly doubt that Centerparcs have offered to book them into good hotels for the night! I'd be kicking up a stink and trying to demand a full refund of the cost of my ruined holiday.

I don't have a break booked with Centerparcs, but I hope for the sake of those who do that these dolts revisit this ludicrous decision.

For once in my life, I am grateful for that shitrag's lazy journos stalking MN!

SleeplessInEngland · 13/09/2022 16:34

On top of food banks and NHS operating rooms closing it's almost like making an impossible to predict funeral a public holiday is a terrible idea. Maybe they should have just picked a Saturday.

vera99 · 13/09/2022 16:35

A Royal Family worth in excess of a billion pounds has a bank holiday reputed to be costing the country 2 billion pounds and a lawyer gets threatened with arrest for holding up a blank sheet of paper in Parliament Square. Right.

Thegroaninggurner · 13/09/2022 16:36

A bit silly of centreparks you can't do that to people on holiday how ridiculous.

CraggyIslandTouristBoard · 13/09/2022 16:39

notenoughtogoround · 13/09/2022 14:13

We are due to go on Friday and have been offered no acknowledgement (never mind compensation) for the fact that we now cannot access any of the facilities on Monday. It’s a massive cock up and I can’t even imagine what it must be like to be staying Friday to Friday or working in their call centre and/or comms team today.
