To buy this DFS sofa from the platinum range?

we need a new sofa. I’ve seen this one and love it (with the chair) but it’s a big purchase (for us at least!) and I’m slightly nervous given bad press/reviews of DFS. It’s a sensuous from the platinum range. Does anyone have any recent experience of DFS or indeed have one of these?

Have you tried it out in store? I am looking for a suite too and tried this one at the weekend. It’s very big and quite deep but seemed comfortable.

We’ve used DFS previously and had no issues and will consider buying our next one from there too.

My mum bought a couple of sofas from dfs a few years ago, they were leather. She said they were fine for the price.

She recently bought two new sofas from a more expensive shop (over £6k). One of them was so poorly made she had to reject it on delivery. The second one has now started sagging really badly after 8 months of normal use.

She is now looking at getting new sofas from dfs!

We’ve had our DFS sofa for about 10 years and it’s as good as new, with daily use. Would really recommend.

MacaroniBaloney · 12/09/2022 10:59

I've sat on it instore and its very comfy. DFS sofas are made in the UK. (Not necessarily a marker of quality these days).
Check out online reviews. Every company's will get things wrong, its how they attempt to rectify that matters.

We bought a Sofa and arm chair from DFS 3 years ago. We mainly went with DFS for the 4 years interest free credit, which we needed at the time. TBH, the DFS sofa hasn't lasted as well as other sofas we've had and will probably need replacing after 5 years.

But we have been at home a lot more over lockdown and Covid etc. And my DC have gone through their 'furniture trampoline' stage with this sofa too. So that will obviously play a factor too!

I bought a large ex display corner sofa with foot stool from SCS 6 years ago for £700 and it still looks great and is very comfortable.

We have had £3000 leather sofas and they weren’t as comfortable.

LubaLuca · 12/09/2022 11:04

I would recommend trying in store but buying online. That way you get a cooling off period if you get buyer's regret and have the right to cancel.

ghostyslovesheets · 12/09/2022 11:04

I’m on my 3rd set of DFS sofas and have never had an issue - only changed due to 1) being to big (moved house) 2) needing a sofa bed (fab comfy and well made) 3) moving again! Current ones are 5 years old, in great condition and very comfy

abigailsnan · 12/09/2022 11:08

I bought a 3 x 2 sofa's from DFS 12yrs ago they where brown leather and are now in my DDs house they look as good as the day they where first bought, the ones you are looking at however seem to have quite thin arm rests which could go flat quickly and the one piece cushion to the sofa could go out of shape quickly just be careful with your choice leather is so much more hard wearing in the long run.

LubaLuca · 12/09/2022 11:12

I forgot to say we've been really pleased with the couple of DFS sofas we've had, and the service was really good when we did make a mistake with what we ordered a couple of weeks ago (went for the 'sensible' choice but regretted it the next day, and although we ordered in store and we had no rights to change our order, they accommodated it happily).

sageandbasil · 12/09/2022 11:20

We've got a loaf sofa- paid about 4K for the sofa and armchair. Will avoid at all costs next time! DFS has been around yonks and seems great!

HeidiWhole · 12/09/2022 11:21

We have DFS sofas and no problems at all, still look great after about 7 years despite best efforts of kids & pets

bobby81 · 12/09/2022 11:25

We looked at this range at the weekend & hope to buy the corner sofa (if it will fit in our new house!) We loved it, so comfortable. I’ve always had DFS sofas & never had a problem - one of them lasted nearly 15 years.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 12/09/2022 11:31

I've had a dfs sofa for a good 8/9 years and it's still in good condition and gets used a lot! (French connection range)
The thing that would put me off that one is the single cushion seat on the sofa.
If one of you is heavier it might sag on one side. If you spill/mark it you only have once chance of turning it over 😊
The back cushions look like they'd sag/need plumping daily and I cba with that.

Serenity45 · 12/09/2022 11:42

I wouldn't use DFS again I'm afraid. We had two quite expensive sofas from them 3 years ago. Issues around delivery leaving us on camping chairs for a month. The sofas have had light use (just the two of us, no kids, occasional guests). All of the cushions are going saggy / misshapen despite regular plumping (and they are not the style of sofas that should need this, as we specifically checked when we bought them!). The wooden legs twist out of place very easily so always look a bit wonky and we're constantly needing to tighten them back up.

We have a now 15 year old Next ex display bargain sofa in our dining room and it has lasted amazingly well - the cushions have never needed plumping and haven't gone lumpy like the newer ones...

Notreallyhappy · 12/09/2022 11:47

We have one suite that's 15 years old and going strong still.looks good..
We have a new leather one, the design is different and possibly not going to last 15years.
Make sure you look in store first. The latter settee came in leather and a pretend type.

Greyarea12 · 13/09/2022 16:02

I am also buying a new sofa and going through dfs looking for one. My sister recently bought the sanctuary sofa from dfs. Really comfy and deep, so much so that I think I am about to buy the exact same one.

Verytirednow · 11/10/2022 10:15

Recently bought my daughter a sofa from DFS .Great customer service and delivery.
Am now choosing new sofa for our sitting room but am so underwhelmed by colour/ pattern choice . Not just at DFS but everywhere. I really cannot stand dreary biscuit, brown ,grey colour sofas .

Mrsjayy · 11/10/2022 10:17

We have had our dfs couches about 9/ 10 it's got recliners which are still working and it's not saggy at all.

SatinHeart · 11/10/2022 10:24

We bought a sofa, 2 armchairs and a sofa bed from DFS 8 years ago. They're only just starting to show their age now I'd say - having survived a kitten and 2 toddlers! We've washed the covers quite a few times and they still fit etc which is fab.

Make sure you try it out in store though. Some of the ones we sat on weren't as comfy as they looked.

Raveon2000 · 11/10/2022 11:05

Another happy DFS customer, just finished paying the 4 years interest free credit on my sofas and still love them and they still look good. 3 young kids and pets here too.

naomistewart1 · 19/11/2022 16:34

I'm thinking of getting this one, did you buy it in the end and if so are you happy with it?

MaryKristmas · 19/11/2022 16:38

Have you had a look at Joseph James furniture? They have stock from dfs and other sofa stores. They're based in Manchester but do delivery within a few days all around the country. You can video call with them and they will show you around the showroom. We bought a gorgeous sofa from them at a bargain price and only took a couple of days to arrive too.

Oblomov22 · 19/11/2022 16:57

Nearly everyone I know finds their sofa basically quite poorly made. (I don't know anyone who has bought from top class expensive ranges, just average stores).

Axlcat · 19/11/2022 19:38

@naomistewart1 we did order it yes - in stone. If you can hold on it’s due for delivery in the next couple of weeks so I can update you then!
