AIBU to go to NYC for 2 nights?

I have 4 days off coming up. I've found direct flights from my local airport that leave early in the morning on day 1 and arrive in NYC at lunchtime.

Flight home leaves evening of day 3 and lands home early day 4 morning.

No accommodation to pay for as my SIL stays there and is happy to host me (been loads of times before)

I'd be taking money out of savings to do it.

It's my last chance to go abroad before we buy a house and TTC... should i go? Is it worth the travel/expense for such a short trip?

I would, why not! Yes it’ll be a long trip for a short stay but I love holidays. The only reason I wouldn’t bother is if the flights were really expensive.

underneaththeash · 31/08/2022 17:57

How much do you fly? I'd worry about the carbon footprint if you travel a lot.

Hintofreality · 31/08/2022 17:57

Go, life is for living!

anotherpotoftea · 31/08/2022 17:57

Are they joint savings and is it ok with your partner to spend on that?

If so I’d go for it

Hotandbothereds · 31/08/2022 18:02

Yeah go, life’s too short, enjoy!

thatslow · 31/08/2022 18:06

Vote yabu because you’ll need more time there

Tryingtokeepgoing · 31/08/2022 18:07

Go for it…I spent 36 hours in Sydney once 😂

LocalHobo · 31/08/2022 18:09

If you've been loads of times before, why not go somewhere different this time?
I like NYC as much as the next person but the world has a host of amazing places to see.

nettytree · 31/08/2022 18:09

I did this for my 30th. Worked over night a nd finished at 6am. Went home, quick shower then back to the airport. (Worked there, so close). I was asleep before take off. Great times.

I would not travel that distance for that short a time, so would be looking for somewhere closer. That said, if you think the travel is worth it, go and have a great time!

Snugglemonkey · 31/08/2022 18:17

Sorry, don't know where that quote came from ^

chipsandpeas · 31/08/2022 18:17

I would

Animallover87 · 31/08/2022 18:22

@anotherpotoftea No it's my own money and DH totally fine with it!

@LocalHobo any ideas? It's such a short time! I looked at dubai but double the price and nowhere in Europe I fancy

I wouldn't go for 2 nights, no, but enjoy if you do decide to go.

WaltzingWaters · 31/08/2022 18:26

I would say go for it. But is there no way you could go for even one extra night? It’s such a long trip for such a short stay. But I do love nyc and at least if you’ve been lots before you don’t have to do all the tourist stuff and can just enjoy!

Theendofnature · 31/08/2022 18:27

No way, how can there be no where in Europe you fancy??

Gonewiththewindbeforelong · 31/08/2022 18:27

GO!! In 20 years time you’ll only regret the things you didn’t do. Have an incredible time

notanothertakeaway · 31/08/2022 18:27

That's quite a carbon footprint for a short trip. I dont think I would do that, TBH

Aworldofmyown · 31/08/2022 18:29

The jet lag though 😴
Budapest?

GoAround · 31/08/2022 18:31

I actually quite like a short trip and don’t suffer with jetlag so would definitely do it. I’ve been to DC for 2 nights with the 3rd night sleeping on the plane 3 times and it’s always been fab.

Applebark · 31/08/2022 18:35

Go to NYC. I haven't been on a flight for over 10 years and I'm not going to anytime soon so you can have my carbon footprint allowance.

Give to Roxy's on Time Square. Best cheesecake ever.

Sirzy · 31/08/2022 18:38

Surely you would be too tired from the travel to enjoy it?

i would look for somewhere closer

NewYorkLassie · 31/08/2022 18:38

Pre DC I used to go for the weekend fairly regularly, hence the username. Definitely worth it if you already know the city well.

Agree.

I love New York, have been multiple times, but there are limitless destinations in Europe, so much variety and the flights are short. Perfect for a 2/3 day trip.

I’d pick Europe in this situation every time.
