Dh is irritating me, it's the end of the school hols

So dh and I are both teachers with a toddler and and a baby and it's been a long 6 weeks!

Many of us have our neurotic ways but dh has a lot and normally I'd tolerate them but atm it's just plain annoying. Maybe we've just been in each other's company too much but things are starting to become more irritating, e.g

Dh has an obsession with opening all the windows around the house to let out plastic particles
He turns off the hot water even though we're on a combi boiler
He watches TV without any lights on in the evening.
He's always leaving stair gates open.
He's always looking at something on his phone

So how does your oh irritate you?

Interesting that you've posted this cos I'm feeling like this with my DH. He's been off loads with the kids but gone back into work this week while I'm off. I'm just so irritated by him right now.

We're meant to be having a family day out tomorrow and I'm dreading it.

Plastic particles Confused

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 28/08/2022 06:52

Can u explain the opening of the window to let out the plastic particles????

Sunnysidegold · 28/08/2022 07:35

Mine has a clicky jaw which makes me sometimes want to poke him in the eyes when he's eating. It's only certain foods though, so I'm not always feeling so murderous.

KangarooKenny · 28/08/2022 07:35

What are his good points, the things that make you stay ? 🤔

pictish · 28/08/2022 07:39

The plastic particles?

I bet there’s plenty considering that the list OP has shared amounts to trivia

Some people on Mumsnet must have the most perfect DHs, fragrant and blameless, to write pokey posts like this

Mildura · 28/08/2022 07:42

Opening windows in the middle of summer isn’t that controversial, surely?!

FatCatSkinnyRat · 28/08/2022 07:43

Oh God now I am worried about plastic particles. What are they? If I open the windows will more come in?

FancyFelix · 28/08/2022 07:47

His obsession with bringing litres of water everywhere he goes, combined with a refusal to use the bottles I have bought for such purpose. He prefers to refill coke bottles and it drives me bananas

His shit eating habits which he is passing on to our children.

He normally works from the office but we're both working from home more due to the hols. I am so sick of hearing his voice booming out around the house.

CuddlesAndChocolate · 28/08/2022 08:12

So dh's plastic obsession is because of microplastics. Admittedly this is from the Daily Mail but it's just to give you the idea...www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10175573/New-fears-microplastics-home-inhale-7-000-particles-day.html

My irritation is that when it cools down and evenings are getting chillier, we still have every single window open. I go round closing after he opens them. Also, the greater worry is that we have a 3 year old who loves climbing, dh can he forgetful about the stairgate and I don't want dc dangling out of a big upstairs window strangely enough.

This sort if thing doesn't happen when he's at work. I'm convinced it's the holiday.

The phone thing would annoy me. It's really rude.

@KangarooKenny this is such a strange comment. You must never get irritated by your other half.

@Mariokartedoff I get that. Good luck with your day out.

DH is diabetic and insists on eating crap. Then complains he's feeling really under the weather...oh I wonder why?
He grunts...
Leaves mess everywhere..
Watches endless crap videos on fb

I'm menopausal. He's irritating the fuck out of me at the moment

Bloballbovish · 28/08/2022 08:19

@FatCatSkinnyRat you need to be careful. If next door have opened their windows to let theirs out, keep your windows shut otherwise theirs will come in. If their windows are closed, you're fine to let yours out though.

My adult DD has a clicky jaw. Luckily we both like Bob's burgers, family guy etc and watch them loudly while we eat.

Why is reading on your phone different to if he had a book, newspaper or reference books doing a crossword? My bf comments on me reading on my phone of a morning. He puts the news on which goes over the same thing and gives a small sample. I'm reading at least four different newspapers and global news which never makes UK media.

ThrowawaySecondarySchool · 28/08/2022 08:28

Maybe your DH would accept an air filter? The window opening thing is NOT a goer in the colder months.

Teacherteachernotapreacher · 28/08/2022 08:29

Same! Both teachers and 3 chn under 10. Feel like smacking him most mornings as he sits and plays on his phone. He also has a clicky jaw and is so unbearably smug at times.

normally I quite like him but 6 weeks together is enough 😂

Funkyslippers · 28/08/2022 08:32

My OH is constantly touching his face when he's sitting down relaxing. Picking his skin while contorting his face into weird positions, biting his nails (a habit he's only recently started for some reason) or picking his nose. Constantly. Drives me insane

Passthecake30 · 28/08/2022 08:34

Mine is annoying me as when he is bored/when we don’t have plans, he sits on the sofa and does nothing but read/stare at his phone/watch tv rather than do something helpful in the house or garden.
I can potter about all day, while he just sits.

Mine also annoys me as his body temp feels about 50c when he puts his arm over me in the night. I’m hot already! Argh.

CuddlesAndChocolate · 28/08/2022 08:39

@Teacherteachernotapreacher it's good to know there are other teachers feeling this too 😂

OP posts:
CuddlesAndChocolate · 28/08/2022 08:40

@Funkyslippers @Passthecake30 yes and yes! My dh can also do these things!

At least yours will go back to work. Mine is retired. And here alllllll the bloody time!

Reasons he irritates me -

never hangs kitchen towels or tea towels or oven gloves back on hooks. Hooks HE put up.
obsessed with menu plans
obsessed with shopping lists (I managed both shopping and food planning just fine for years)
critiques my cooking to the nth degree but can’t take criticism back

I’m sure there’s more.
