To ruin my bedding and clothes for some pain relief?

TournamentIgloo · 27/08/2022 23:07

Unfortunate underwear choice on a hot active day cut into top of my thighs.

BIG pain. Pants did actually cut into the skin so really no dignified way to sit. Or walk. Or do anything other than some crab step straight from the ministry of silly walks.

No appropriate topical product for relief in the house.

DM has suggested Vaseline in a pinch to at least reduce friction...
I am pretty horrified at the thought of essentially long lasting oil based lube (of a sort) being plastered on me, clothes and bedding. The pain is bad but surely not worth that clean up??

YABU - The pain is bad, use the ick and tackle stains on Monday.
YANBU - Your DM is clearly a lunatic, nobody wants vaseline all over their bed.

I’m not sure why it would end up all over your bed? Put it on where it hurts and then put loose PJs on.

Anonymous48 · 27/08/2022 23:08

Vaseline sounds like a great idea! You can wash your clothes and bedding, surely?

mrcow · 27/08/2022 23:10

Sleep on a large towel?

Justwantanicepeacfulholiday · 27/08/2022 23:11

Put it on a then pjs then sleep on old towel

Leafy3 · 27/08/2022 23:11

If you have open wounds at top of your thighs, clean and dry the area gently then bandage the top of your leg (bit like two high garters). Youd only need a lightweight bandage, not a thick one.

Once they've healed, I find talc the best thing for reducing friction. Sudocrem tonight will probably help ease it, or my mother used to swear by a little egg white dried on with a hairdryer on a cool setting.

Flangeosaurus · 27/08/2022 23:12

Owwww horrible! Any nappy cream/sudocrem about the place? That would be my weapon of choice but ultimately at this point just anything which makes it hurt less. If I only had Vaseline I’d defo do the Vaseline.

I'm sorry but I can't get over the situation of having sores from knickers. Is this where you're going to reveal that you were actually wearing a chastity belt or something?

Sleep on a towel tonight then send DH to the shops to get sudocreme in the morning -it's just the best.

If needs be, 'go commando' for the next few days until the sore bits have healed, with loose trousers if you're going out.

Lacey247 · 27/08/2022 23:25

I can’t imagine how knickers could ever cut into your skin?

TournamentIgloo · 27/08/2022 23:28

You are all so sensible. I still REALLY don't want to put vaseline on it and I have reasons, but probably not good ones.

PJs absolute no - Agony! Thin, soft, skintight leggings are what is providing a tiny bit of relief, which is why some oily residue will definitely end up on bed.

Towel is clearly the solution, and so sensible - but I don't want an oily towel either. (I know, I hear myself too)😬

No talc. No sudocreme. Absolutely nothing other than a vaseline lip balm in terms of topical. Has been cleaned well with a good working knowledge of horse first aid... I'm sure that's the same. 😁

I do happen to have several products that would definitely help, at the yard, with the bloody horse! I suppose either way I will be waddling there tomorrow to dig some out - do we reckon there is a more exciting story for this injury than "my knickers cut me?" that I could spin...

Get some of that fabulous yellow bum cream for babies - metanium

heyitsthistle · 27/08/2022 23:32

Can you sleep naked?

Thesearmsofmine · 27/08/2022 23:34

I would bathe the area, let it air dry and sleep either in a nightie or bottom half naked. I wouldn’t put anything on it I don’t think?

GrilledWatermelon · 27/08/2022 23:35

Oh, you can get sores from knickers alright. The edging on some m&s ones sawed great cuts into me crevices!

Hot weather and sweat make it very much worse.

I have no household remedies to suggest OP, maybe a simple moisturiser would help for now? For christ sake don't put purple spray on it tomorrow. 🤣

Leafy3 · 27/08/2022 23:36

You know soap breaks down oil, right?

If you're that concerned just rub a bit of shampoo or dish soap into the greasy spots before putting them in the wash. Wash at 40c or higher.

It's lighthearted mate, I'm clearly MAD for not wanting the relief for the minor problem of some washing - I know this.

I'm just bringing a slightly amusing concept (bloody underwear injury!) in a slightly ridiculous situation (myself genuinely being so ick about oil that I would rather hurt) to somewhere that people DO share anecdotes.

There is always one!

Whatever fabric ends up covered in vaseline washing up liquid, designed to breakdown grease, should take it out.

willstarttomorrow · 27/08/2022 23:38

As someone who has put on too much weight and now suffers from chub rub, just use whatever and wash the bedding! Under skirt pants are now my saviour but at no point have I worried about using a cream then ruining bedding (unless these are some very fancy silk sheets). Let's face it our bedding gets sweated on, discharge, period overflow and all sorts of other bodily functions. Hot wash sorts it all and surely being comfortable is the most important thing?

Twinstudy · 27/08/2022 23:40

Towel, vaseline and some serious starfish sleeping. I feel for you op but you're going to have to accept a greasy towel and a night legs akimbo I think. Good luck 😁

crochetmonkey74 · 27/08/2022 23:40

I would go commando and dry area with cool hairdryer then lie on a towel or wrap tow round between legs like a sort of big nappy. Tuck it in all crevices and you'll be dry and lovely all night and you might get that satisfying thing where the towel sticks to you and you have to peel it off

This might have been the exact pants! 😂

Hot day, lots of walking, poor knicker choice and tight trousers with a thick seam. I have no better explanation than that!

Will avoid all sprays that start with a colour! Blue, Purple, Silver. Should probably also avoid fly spray. Good point.

Vaseline is a miracle cure! Once I painfully zipped up a pair of side-zip capri pants catching my hip and had an actual hole in my skin 😱. Vaseline and one of those big square plasters over healed me up.
