To ruin my bedding and clothes for some pain relief?

TournamentIgloo · 27/08/2022 23:07

Unfortunate underwear choice on a hot active day cut into top of my thighs.

BIG pain. Pants did actually cut into the skin so really no dignified way to sit. Or walk. Or do anything other than some crab step straight from the ministry of silly walks.

No appropriate topical product for relief in the house.

DM has suggested Vaseline in a pinch to at least reduce friction...
I am pretty horrified at the thought of essentially long lasting oil based lube (of a sort) being plastered on me, clothes and bedding. The pain is bad but surely not worth that clean up??

YABU - The pain is bad, use the ick and tackle stains on Monday.
YANBU - Your DM is clearly a lunatic, nobody wants vaseline all over their bed.

Shame you don't have any Sudocreme in the house - that would fix it overnight.

Mine do the same thing walking a long way in hot humid weather. If you need to wear knickers tomorrow, put some Vaseline on those bits first, helps a lot.

Going commando in hot weather helps, but I only trust that 3 weeks of the month.

@Rickrollme All the time, obsessively - very very weird about dirty things in bed or on my clothes, don't like the sensation of greasy, sticky or gritty - with a real fervour behind that 'don't like'.

@AnxietyLevelMax Soon people wont be able to understand the concept of posting something lighthearted either.

Get some of this to keep in, I swear by it. It's like purple spray, whack it on anything
And some anti chafing gel, lanacane does one

Do you have any Savlon or similar?

That, and sleep commando like a starfish.

If you don't, skip the vaseline and stìll go starfish commando.

Oh, you can get sores from knickers alright. The edging on some m&s ones sawed great cuts into me crevices!

Hot weather and sweat make it very much worse.

I have no household remedies to suggest OP, maybe a simple moisturiser would help for now? For christ sake don't put purple spray on it tomorrow. 🤣

I love a bit of purple spray! Worked wonders on a manky toenail I had!

I'd personally not put vaseline on an open wound. Find some way to cover it for tonight and then get the biggest hydrocolloid patches you can find tomorrow and slap those on. They're aces for rubs/blisters! The pharmacy usually sell them too.

Lighthearted means amusing and not serious. Nothing here is either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had this exact injury as a teenager after wearing swimwear that was too tight.

Its sensitive skin and easily reopened. Try boy leg underpants for a few weeks as normal underwear will reopen it again.

jennyofthenorth · 28/08/2022 02:56

AH! been there! Jeans on a hot day (work requires them) and some chubby thighs... I did vaseline and LOTS of it. I just wore loose pants to bed and was fine. Random advice? Get some diaper rash cream to keep in the house, just in case. It provides a nice barrier for most skin issues and comes off pretty clean.

mackthepony · 28/08/2022 03:11

Well I'll be beggared, I didnt know about this. Knickers! Who'd have thunk it

Hope you feel better tomorrow op

OnAWobblyFence · 28/08/2022 04:42

So, you’re in a lot of pain and your mother has suggested something you hadn’t considered. Are you seriously standing there by the bed with the Vaseline in your hand waiting to hear what the folks on MN say before you decide to try it? I can just picture the conversation. “Here, try this. I think it’ll help”. “Well, let me first see that random strangers on the Internet say before I even consider it”.

k1233 · 28/08/2022 04:47

Do not, I repeat do not use moisturiser. You will scream. It will sting super badly. I did that once with cold induced nose chafing. Brought tears to the eyes, which made the nose run making it hurt even worse. Based on my nose chafing experience, I swear by vaseline. Have never had nose chafing when I use that with a cold and it quickly clears up any sore bits. I find I can no longer wear bras that have a seam under the cups - it rubs my skin. Vaseline again to the rescue for that. It isn't slimy or greasy. It just makes a soft barrier that helps skin heal IME.

hedgehogger1 · 28/08/2022 09:23

You need to go new knicker shopping. Maybe some of those that look like little boxer shorts

moistmingemist · 28/08/2022 09:39

Look at boxer shorts/cycling shorts for women. I have loads of them. Cotton ones and wear them in hot weather for this reason. No chub rub.

And I'd use Vaseline or sudocrem and it'll wash out on a 60 wash so don't worry.

Not sure about this thread.

Cam22 · 28/08/2022 09:42

Are you obese, OP?

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 28/08/2022 09:44

I use vaseline and shea butter all over my body every night. I don't have ruined bedding... I wear little silky night dresses. I cover my feet and chest in the stuff. My bedding is same as always 🤷‍♀️

Hope you're okay that sounds painful

VerbenaGirl · 28/08/2022 09:49

My DD had a skin condition as an infant which meant she had to be smothered in Vaseline. MIL found out that washing in Borax removed the stains. Did a second wash in Fairy afterwards to ensure no Borax residue.

ShinyMe · 28/08/2022 10:00

I strongly recommend Savlon skin healing gel. Not the normal creamy savlon, but the gel one. It's amazing and it really does make open skin wounds heal faster. You can slather it on (from the fridge if you're also sore, it feels great) and it dries to a sort of peel off skin within a few minutes so it doesn't leave sticky residue everywhere. I use it for all sorts - sunburn, spots, thigh chafing, foot blisters....

PeloAddict · 28/08/2022 10:55

Cam22 · 28/08/2022 09:42

Are you obese, OP?

Why would it matter?
If you're wearing knickers with a too tight seam, rough edging or anything that rubs/digs in, you could be a size 4 and it'll do exactly the same thing

zingally · 28/08/2022 12:16

Ouch!

But can't you get some loose mens boxers? Or pj bottoms?

Trivium4all · 28/08/2022 12:54

Given the horse connection: send DM to yard, get the Wondergel, and then cover in Vetwrap?
