DH has just drank a full bottle of red wine to himself in 2 hours.

AIBU to think this is excessive??

Does he do it every day? Did you want some?

I think if it's a one off then hell, why not.

guess we'd need more context.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 23/08/2022 20:01

I’m not a big wine drinker, or indeed big drinker at all. However at the pub the other my friend and I got through 2 bottles in a couple of hours. Doesn’t seem excessive to me tbh. Although I wouldn’t do it more than once a month or so.

AgnestaVipers · 23/08/2022 20:01

Sounds excessive to me. It's a Tuesday!

alanabennett · 23/08/2022 20:02

Not really, to be honest. If it's a daily occurrence I might raise an eyebrow, but just occasionally? No big deal. I've done it myself when glued to a book or something on TV.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 23/08/2022 20:02

Sounds like a plan after the day I've had 😂

Wherehasthecommonsensegone · 23/08/2022 20:02

In what context? If not every day then that’s fine. It’s surprisingly easy to do if it’s a good bottle and you’re sipping whilst watching something good/reading/chatting.

ohidoliketobe · 23/08/2022 20:03

YABU 3 large glasses in 2 hours isn't terrible. If you're out for a meal for example a drink while ordering, one with main course and one towards the end is totally normal.

Is there some drip feed back story that he had vodka for breakfast, or that this is a daily occurrence?

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 23/08/2022 20:03

1 bottle of wine is 3 large glasses.

I could do that if I was in the mood.

One whilst preparing dinner, one with dinner and one after 🤣.

Sometimes, you're just in the mood.

But as the pp said, need context.

MrsU2022 · 23/08/2022 20:04

Not really unless it's a frequent occurance! If it's unusual then I'd wonder if there's something going on...

I will sometimes share 2 bottles of an evening (4-5 hours) with my husband on a weekend

YoMrWhiteYall · 23/08/2022 20:05

Ok I guess my perspective is screwed as I’m teetotal (since new year). He doesn’t do it every day but he does drink quite heavily on a weekend (beer)

Well yea it is. But a little bit of excess every now and again is his choice.

Is it affecting you adversely?

ithoughtitmihtbenicetochat · 23/08/2022 20:06

I occasionally do this with a pub lunch.
It's so much fun.

Is there a bigger issue here?

pinkpantsrock · 23/08/2022 20:10

Nah, that's fine. But asking on MN and your gonna get a extreme range of reactions and only you can put on judgie pants and decide if hubby is overdoing it

wibblewobbleball · 23/08/2022 20:13

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I read the title and thought oh I wish Grin -missespointofthread-

So? My day off used to be a Wednesday, I'd have been happy to meet friends for a few drinks (or have a few in the house) on a Tuesday night 🤷🏼‍♀️

As a one off I don't think it's too bad, depends how regularly he does it.

A few months of sobriety doesn’t skew your perspective that much. You know it’s a bit excessive, you know he drinks heavier on a weekend. You’re with using your new found sobriety to judge him or you’re worried. What’s the real issue here?

MichelleScarn · 23/08/2022 20:47

What did you drink before deciding sobriety?

Sunnyqueen · 23/08/2022 20:48

It's absolutely fine.

PermanentTemporary · 23/08/2022 20:49

Yeah it's a lot.

Why do you think he has done it tonight?

Great post. And your question to the OP is spot on.

It's only August

It can't be that screwed?

LaFemmeNicola · 23/08/2022 20:56

Three large glasses in two hours isn’t excessive. Probably about ten units, so maybe four pints of beer equivalent.

It’s not exactly hanging around, but far from a problem unless there’s something more to this.

JJG12 · 23/08/2022 20:57

I did that last night and can easily do that on occasion, if it was evey day then yeah I'd say maybe it's a crutch. And maybe he's drinking of a weekend because he's stressed? Do need context but ultimately anything in moderation isn't terrible. I had a shit day yesterday, I had a shit month and my friend bottle of rose wine made me feel so much better. Yaaaay!

Why on a Tuesday? Many people have their days off midweek!!

SueSaid · 23/08/2022 21:00

A bottle of wine in 2 hrs is excessive. Anyone who normalises it are probably heavy drinkers themselves.

How does he act when he drinks this much, was he alone or was it a social setting?
