Full bottle of wine in two hours

YoMrWhiteYall · 23/08/2022 19:59

DH has just drank a full bottle of red wine to himself in 2 hours.

AIBU to think this is excessive??

It doesn't sound excessive unless it's a regular thing. I do that about three times a year. I don't drink at all apart from that though

PersonaNonGarter · 23/08/2022 21:57

Yeah, it sounds excessive but not Keith Richards excessive.

Is he being a dick?

Floweryflora · 23/08/2022 21:58

Rosesandstars · 23/08/2022 21:36

Wow, how do most people not think that 2 bottles in two hours is excessive.

Liver cirrhosis and pancreatic cancer (from this type of drinking) are not nice ways to go.

Two bottles. 🤣🤣🤣

this Nails it for you op, this poster had to double it. The cringe is strong on this.

humanwinginglife · 23/08/2022 22:09

Casually sipping my 4th glass reading this Confused sorry OP, unless there's a backstory to this, IMO YABU.

HelloTreacle9 · 23/08/2022 22:10

It’s not excessive, no. What’s the real issue for you?

Sally872 · 23/08/2022 22:19

For me drinking a bottle of wine on a Tues would be more unusual than the 2 hours. I might have a glass mid week but not normally a bottle.

If he is on annual leave or birthday or something then 2 hours for a bottle of wine is quick but not unheard of.

heyitsthistle · 23/08/2022 22:21

My first thought was "easily done..."

WindyKnickers · 23/08/2022 22:21

AgnestaVipers · 23/08/2022 20:01

Sounds excessive to me. It's a Tuesday!

What on earth has that got to do with it?

WindyKnickers · 23/08/2022 22:24

I drank a bottle of rose at a campsite in 2 hours the other week and then a bottle of red and 2 beers the next night. It was lovely and fun and I am definitely not a problem drinker.

dropthevipers · 23/08/2022 22:24

Ffs. To hear some on here it's like he's trying out for the George best all comers challenge Cup.

BoviTraci · 23/08/2022 22:25

Once a week? No

daisyjgrey · 23/08/2022 22:26

I'd struggle to do a bottle of wine in two hours. Neither of us drink very much though so if my partner did a bottle in 2 hours I'd definitely be surprised.

If he drinks a lot at the weekend as well then it's a reasonable assumption that he's drinking too much.

People are weird about drinking, especially wine, it's got this sort of societal safety net around it that if you question it you're labelled a puritan; but then I don't really get on with the "I've had a terrible day so I need a drink" ethos either. When you start needing a drink to relax, it's time to stop 🤷🏼‍♀️

LaFemmeNicola · 23/08/2022 22:30

I mentioned this to DH, who agreed with my take. Probably fine. Context matters.

He then told me about the time him and two friends were given a bill after two hours in the pub, 5pm to 7pm, for twenty four pints of Stella, or exactly eight each before they headed home, so he’s maybe on the heavier side when it comes to the occasional “quick drink after work.”

YoMrWhiteYall · 23/08/2022 22:30

Floweryflora · 23/08/2022 21:25

You a bit jealous op and have some issues.

Lol the last thing I am is jealous, I don’t miss alcohol at all. Just wish I’d stopped sooner.

That's impressive. Eight pints of Stella in two hours, that's about 20 units......
And also means drinking a pint every 15 mins.
And presumably not puking or weeing on the train on the way home.

A bottle of wine in 2 hrs is excessive. Anyone who normalises it are probably heavy drinkers themselves.

How does he act when he drinks this much, was he alone or was it a social setting?

Erm, no.

Sally872 · 23/08/2022 22:49

If he is being a dick then that is the issue. Wether he drank the wine quickly or slowly doesnt matter. He is drunk and annoying and that is not ok.

Summerfun54321 · 23/08/2022 23:19

I wouldn’t expect to be told off by my partner for drinking a bottle of wine. I’d expect him to say something if I did it most nights though.

daisyjgrey · 24/08/2022 00:43

Floweryflora · 23/08/2022 21:25

Jealous of what? His capacity for liquid? Ah yes, I've often been impressed by a persons ability to drink liquid semi-quickly. I've wiled many an eve desperately wishing I had the same level of ability.

Mrstherockjohnson · 24/08/2022 01:52

A bottle of wine is 9-10 alcohol units. That is quite a large amount of alcohol in one sitting. Is this a one off or regular thing? I might drink that amount say during a special occasion/one off socialising but would not say that it is a normal or healthy amount to consume!

Musti · 24/08/2022 01:55

I could easily do that (which is why I’m currently doing a 30 day sober with a view of becoming teetotal)

YoMrWhiteYall · 24/08/2022 07:20

So I guess the real issue is that he’s a cunt when drunk. As predicted he started another argument last night - which is a common occurrence when he’s been drinking heavily (and no it wasn’t over me questioning the wine). I went to bed, he stayed up until late. I got up this morning to find that he’d opened the kitchen window wide before coming to bed and never shut the fucking thing … anyone could have got in

Maybe you should’ve made that the topic of the thread then.
