To think the BBC just love sticking the boot into the Sussexes

BBC

Aropos of sod all, they feel the need to mention that there will inevitably be comparisons between the Cambridges' 'by royal standards, modest home' and the Sussexes' 'very much more expansive, multi room accomodation'.

I wouldn't have even thought to compare the two and I'm fairly sure most people wouldn't either. In fact the thing that sticks out the most by far is the fact that this is the Cambridges' third home. And school fees alone will be £50k a year. What cost of living crisis?!

But, yeah. Any excuse to set the cat amongst the pigeons where H&M are concerned, it seems.

Yeah ,but just watch this thread ,there is a lot of vitriol for Harry and Meghan ,who are no worse then the rest of them imo .

Mrsjayy · 22/08/2022 15:10

The cottage is hardly a 2 up 2 down is it ? Although I do agree the media will have any excuse to have a go at the Sussexs. The cambridges live in "estate" property so its not like they bought it and the Sussexs couple moved to America and live in borrowed houses after Canada said they were not subsidising them . So it is always going to be a bit of this and that.

Numbat2022 · 22/08/2022 15:12

I just read that and knew exactly what this thread was about before I read it. Deeply weird, it didn't occur to me either. One is a royal residence near a castle, the other is a private residence in another country.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/08/2022 15:14

Third home? They are moving out of KP to Windsor.
get your fact right, Omid, you’re slipping

That's not what the article says.

OP posts:
JenniferBarkley · 22/08/2022 15:21

I read the same article and had the same thought.

I mean, come on. Are we really supposed to believe they'll be living in a normal large four bed house? What about the nanny, are the kids sharing a room, or will they also have staff quarters elsewhere on the estate? How much real estate will actually be devoted to them/their household - not to mention the size of Anmer Hall and their Kensington Palace home. It's ridiculous.

And I don't even begrudge them a big home - the whole concept of hereditary monarchy is bonkers, but if we're going to have one then I wouldn't expect the future king to be in a normal home.

But no, has to be a comparison to his brother.

Sick of the whole bloody thing.

They're not actually. They are keeping KP & they have 2 other homes.

SueDenime · 22/08/2022 15:27

Lovely typo there in the OP!

Apropos, obviously.

And yes, @JenniferBarkley, exactly this.

To be fair, just about everybody loves putting the boot into the Sussexes

It sounds like they will make adelaide cottage in windsor their main home but are still ,keeping their kp home and a home in Norfolk just in case they need a break.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 22/08/2022 15:35

The Sussexes are still trying to be part time royals/part time celebrities and are terrible liars. It is ugly to see, it won't work and they deserve all the stick they get.

TheKeatingFive · 22/08/2022 15:39

Not to mention the fact that this move is an obviously temporary one, as they seem to be lining up to occupy Windsor Great Park once they can boot Andrew's ass out of it. Or even the castle itself on the death of the Queen.

hewouldwouldnthe · 22/08/2022 15:40

Well, people will be making comparisons? They are just stating the obvious

TheKeatingFive · 22/08/2022 15:41

Whatever you feel to be true about the Sussexes, it is not them trying to insert themselves into this story. It is the media.

Exactly. Why are they even mentioned in this article? Why is the size of their home even relevant? It's just so random. But it's absolutely clear why it's been done.

Unnecessary to even mention any other member of the Royal Family at all, except perhaps the Queen given her limited mobility.

The BBC should be above the standards of the tabloid press.

SpudleyLass · 22/08/2022 16:02

I can't stand the Sussexes and find most criticism of them to be perfectly valid.

Even I found the comment about them to be unnecessary in this article.

I also thought it was common knowledge the Cambridges were moving to Adelaide Cottage, so unsure of why its being reported on again.

WhiskersPete · 22/08/2022 16:07

That stood out to me as well OP. A completely unnecessary comment and a pretty cheap shot from the BBC there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/08/2022 16:07

The BBC should be above the standards of the tabloid press

Should be, yes, but all too often isn't

I'm no admirer of some of the Sussexes behaviour, but still agree there was just no need for the BBC to mention comparisons; doubtless there'll be some, but why go inviting them?

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 22/08/2022 16:09

@Justcallmebebes

"To be fair, just about everybody loves putting the boot into the Sussexes"

And why is anyone surprised at this ??

They got the big wedding, the renovated cottage on a Royal Estate, all the bells and whistles and then they decide they don't want to be 'working Royals' but still want all the perks (like having their security paid for).
Then, to top it all they go on US TV and claim the Royal Family are racists.

Now I'm a Royalist but these two are just upper-class scroungers.

Pixiedust1234 · 22/08/2022 16:13

Unlike the rest of the royal family? Who generally don't get the stick they deserve as an anachronistic leftover of days gone by that were best gone by. Of course, the Royal family are all fine because in addition to their untold wealth gained through thievery, thuggery and lies over the centuries, they just really need a huge top-up from the taxpayers as it's so hard paying all those bills for a life of luxury. I'm not a fan of any of them, as should be obvious by now, but if we are to stick to the bare details of the BBC news story, my initial thought was that at least the Sussexes pay their own rent and don't expect me to pay it for them, unlike the myriads of royal hangers on. Normal family? What a joke. And an insult on the scale of Rishi Sunak being a man of people - not one of them will be worried about how to pay the gas bill come winter or how to put food on the table. But given how bad things are getting it must be about time for a surprise royal pregnancy to divert the attention of the unwashed masses in case they work out that they have nothing at all in common with a family who will never worry about bills, food or their jobs.

To be fair, the entire RF are 'upper-class scroungers'.

I really don't see how anyone can witness W&K with their three homes and their £50k school fees and all the rest, and brand H&M 'scroungers'.

If we're going to make comparisons, y'know, like the Beeb has invited us to.

It's BBC News, not some shrieky Daily Mail article. The BBC should be measured and impartial and only report the facts - hence this thread.
