To think the BBC just love sticking the boot into the Sussexes

BBC

Aropos of sod all, they feel the need to mention that there will inevitably be comparisons between the Cambridges' 'by royal standards, modest home' and the Sussexes' 'very much more expansive, multi room accomodation'.

I wouldn't have even thought to compare the two and I'm fairly sure most people wouldn't either. In fact the thing that sticks out the most by far is the fact that this is the Cambridges' third home. And school fees alone will be £50k a year. What cost of living crisis?!

But, yeah. Any excuse to set the cat amongst the pigeons where H&M are concerned, it seems.

Unlike the rest of the royal family? Who generally don't get the stick they deserve as an anachronistic leftover of days gone by that were best gone by. Of course, the Royal family are all fine because in addition to their untold wealth gained through thievery, thuggery and lies over the centuries, they just really need a huge top-up from the taxpayers as it's so hard paying all those bills for a life of luxury. I'm not a fan of any of them, as should be obvious by now, but if we are to stick to the bare details of the BBC news story, my initial thought was that at least the Sussexes pay their own rent and don't expect me to pay it for them, unlike the myriads of royal hangers on. Normal family? What a joke. And an insult on the scale of Rishi Sunak being a man of people - not one of them will be worried about how to pay the gas bill come winter or how to put food on the table. But given how bad things are getting it must be about time for a surprise royal pregnancy to divert the attention of the unwashed masses in case they work out that they have nothing at all in common with a family who will never worry about bills, food or their jobs.

👏👏👏

I think this is why the Sussexes are the only ones of the whole ridiculous lot of them I have even the slightest amount of time for. I've always thought the RF should stop relying on handouts like the upper class scroungers they are, and earn their own money. H&M have done just that.

I’m sure Harry and Meghan won’t mind the publicity. After all they love the attention. Especially since their only job is to give to interviews about how victimised they are.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 22/08/2022 16:23

The Cambridge’s don’t have a ‘modest home’. They have three homes, two of which are enormous, so anybody using that as a comparison must be a bit lacking.

KitBumbleB · 22/08/2022 16:24

They actually have 4 homes, 3 in England and 1 in Scotland

FlorettaB · 22/08/2022 16:26

’There will inevitably be comparisons between the four-bedroom cottage chosen by the Cambridges and the very much more expansive, multi-roomed accommodation selected by the Sussexes in California.’

That was a rather random and unnecessary mention.

I’m stuck on the fact that the children’s school has its own 9 hole golf course. There’s privilege and there’s your prep school having a golf course

pennyfeatherington · 22/08/2022 16:29

There was also the mention of renovations not being required in Adelaide Cottage under its photo. The renovations at Frogmore were apparently needed to make it habitable and not just pretty. The press would like us to think they spent millions on wallpaper, cushions and candles.

Elsewhere I would expect the comparisons but this seems deliberately snidey and gossipy from the BBC and does make me wonder what the purpose of this reporting from them is.

I really would love to know exactly how all the various royal PR machines work and just how much is hidden or exaggerated to the members of the royal family by the courtiers and staff. I wonder if a lot of the tensions come from misunderstandings caused by the RF not dealing with each other face to face and the courtiers constantly battling to have the best PR for their house.

LollipopLady123 · 22/08/2022 16:30

I’m with you OP. That was unnecessary.

Haudyourwheesht · 22/08/2022 16:31

"an attempt to ensure as normal an upbringing as possible for their three children."

Aye, me and my kids also live in a cottage on the queen's estate.

ajandjjmum · 22/08/2022 16:41

SpudleyLass · 22/08/2022 16:02

I can't stand the Sussexes and find most criticism of them to be perfectly valid.

Even I found the comment about them to be unnecessary in this article.

I also thought it was common knowledge the Cambridges were moving to Adelaide Cottage, so unsure of why its being reported on again.

It was common gossip, but has been officially announced today.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/08/2022 16:42

To be fair, the entire RF are 'upper-class scroungers'

Absolutely - but at least the Sussexes claim to pay for themselves, which is why I don't comment on what their house cost, how much Meghan spends on clothes and all the rest of it

However it's fair to say they claim a lot of things and that not all of it has proved to be accurate, so if it ever turns out that we are paying anything for them that will change (and no, before anyone mentions it, I don't think Andrew should be funded either)

Antarcticant · 22/08/2022 16:43

I couldn't believe this from the BBC:

"And the choice of Adelaide Cottage sends another message - that the Cambridges are content to live in what, by royal standards, is a modest home."

A. It doesn't look very modest to me and
B. It's their THIRD home

A tone-deaf move by Kate and Will and tone-deaf reporting by the BBC.

Rosehugger · 22/08/2022 16:44

I don't think it's sticking the boot in. It's reporting that people like to make comparisons. They definitely do, whether the BBC say so or not.

KitBumbleB · 22/08/2022 16:24

Really? I wasn’t aware of the one in Scotland. What on earth is the point of all this?

Pixiedust1234 · 22/08/2022 16:56

SueDenime · 22/08/2022 16:18

@Pixiedust1234

The BBC is slowly stopping with the measured and impartial. Have you not read the news elsewhere regarding this?? Thats partly why there is cross party support for getting rid of the licence fee.

Again, its clickbait. Guaranteed frothing of the mouth.

Antarcticant · 22/08/2022 16:58

Yesthatismychildsigh · 22/08/2022 16:51

Hmm, the BBC didn't see fit to mention their Scottish home. Funny, that.🤔

I suppose they feel the need to toady to William as the future King.

Diamond7272 · 22/08/2022 16:59

Can we please just give that ghastly woman a blank outline map of the UK and ask her to colour in East and West Sussex...

I very much doubt either of them could manage it.

Wait til this stupid book hits the shelves. That should cement their stupidity and have them back in their Duke of Windsor and Wallace-esque lifestyles bemoaning "why don't the people respect or love us any more?"

.... Er, because you are hypocritical twerps who preach at a level far beyond your achievements or academic ability. Go away.

TheKeatingFive · 22/08/2022 17:00

I don't think it's sticking the boot in. It's reporting that people like to make comparisons. They definitely do, whether the BBC say so or not.

They could enable those people to make accurate comparisons by noting the Cambridge's have 3 homes, at least one of them being a massive fuck off estate, far bigger than anything H&M can boast of.

SueDenime · 22/08/2022 17:01

sst1234 · 22/08/2022 16:23

Given the way they're referred to (completely unnecessarily) in this article, and the bile spouted about them on social media, and even some of the comments on this thread - I'd say their claims of being victimised aren't entirely groundless, wouldn't you?

None of which has anything to do with Kate and Williams ,many homes 🙄

'Ghastly woman' 🙄

And they did go away. Don't blame them, tbh.

Really? I wasn’t aware of the one in Scotland. What on earth is the point of all this?

I think the house belonged to the Queen Mother, and she left it to William.

With regard to the four-bed house they are moving in to, I actually think it's probably a good thing for their family. The children will have loads of space to play safely, unlike KP when cameras are forever pointed at them. Kate is trying to emulate her happy childhood for her own family, presumably with William's agreement, and I can't find fault with that.

KP will be their London base, office with 'rooms' for when they need to stay over.

Anmer is their 'house in the country' for long weekends and holidays. They will be living the same life as many members of the aristocracy and successful business people. Lucky them! Although we are allowed to be jealous. Grin

As the heir's heir, they are never going to be short of property. The optics are bad because of the problems with UK plc at present, but this is the time they have to make the move for the benefit of their children starting a new school. They could have sent them off to a boarding school as per previous generations, then location wouldn't matter, but obviously want to break the mould.

Diamond7272 · 22/08/2022 17:08

So why do they keep on preaching and coming back then????

Why write these stupid, nasty books?

Why give interviews full of twisted lies?

Is it for ££££££?????

Do you think it might be??? (gasp, horror)

They'd sell their own granny for a fiver.... Hang on, give it a month or two🤔

Endlesssummer2022 · 22/08/2022 17:09

Well we’re about to slide in to economic Armageddon and thus the establishment have to ensure the masses attention is diverted. What better way than to make a transparent and irrelevant insertion of the Sussexes.

This country is becoming so spiteful and tiresome that I don’t blame them for leaving at all.

Precisely.

The post directly before yours by @Diamond7272 is a perfect example of this.

So much nastiness.

So why do they keep on preaching and coming back then????

What are you proposing, refusing them entry or something? They were invited for the jubilee. They're free people allowed to travel as they choose.

And they certainly don't preach any more than the rest of the pointless royals.
